I mentioned this in the "back in the day" thread and thought it might be fun to see why everyone first came to these forums. I first came in here 2011 to ask what seems to be now a very un-thoughtout question.

Recently I made the purchase of the njoy NPRO starter kit (19.99) and I am very pleased with it. However I have been searching around and wanted to waste money and buy some different stuff so I had a question.

If I bought an adapter that allowed me to use either a 510 or a 901 battery with my 4081 cartomizers would I need to buy a new charger for the new battery? Or will my Njoy NPRO charger work if I have an adapter to 4081 on a new battery?

I hope I asked this correctly.

I'm game, my very first, and really long, post from November 5, 2009:

Hello everyone...I'm new to "vaping" having just tried it for the first time a few weeks ago. I've been a 3 pack a day smoker for about 18 years and it's really starting to take a toll on my health.

My wife saw the Smoking Everywhere Gold online and ordered the 14 day free trial. We never received the product and got charged like $99 for it. So when I called to cancel they sent the product, but didn't refund the money. Since I had it I thought I'd give it a try. Well it was alright, but not worth $99 so I called to send it back, and they offered to refund 1/2 the cost, so I kept it.

I was really on the fence about the device, which I now know is a fairly inexpensive RN4081. I actually through away my first few cartridges not knowing they could be refilled at the time. Finally I stumbled onto this wonderful forum and learned a lot.

So after a little more experience using the device, I've decided to give it a try full time. I ordered a few bottles of Johnson Creek Original smoke juice, which just arrived today, and refilled my 3 empty cartridges. I really think vaping may replace my smoking habit, which is really exciting to me.

So right now I have the SE Gold (RN4081), which includes one battery, AC charger, atomizer, and 3 cartridges. I also just got 2 30ml bottles of the Johnson Creek smoke juice. I ordered another battery, 30 empty cartridges, and an extra atomizer from Heaven Gifts.

So does it look like this will set me up to start vaping full time? I know there are way better devices out there than the SE Gold, but honestly it's not bad, I can for sure live with it for a while. The Johnson Creek juice produces a nice vapor and has a strong taste, something that was missing from the original liquid in the cartridges.

Finally, what do you guys recommend for e-liquid? The Johnson Creek original is pretty good, I like the vapor, but it has a slightly funky after taste. But it's pretty good overall. If I could get a stronger version of the flavor that came in the original SE Gold cartridges that might be good. Does anyone know what their tobacco flavor is similar too?

Lastly, I knew I'd need an extra battery. The one I ordered from Heaven Gifts is for a DSE103, will this fit the RN4081? I saw batteries being sold online for both the DSE103 and the RN4081, so I assumed they used the same battery. What are you recommendations for a parts and cartridge supplier for the RN4081, because SE is very overpriced to buy direct from them.

Any other helpful info on the RN4081 would be greatly appreciated. Parts compatibility with other devices, etc...

1) When you "fill" the atomizer(cartomizer), do you just fill it for the vaping session you're planning next, or for the whole day?

Hey everyone! First off I would like to say this is a great forum. I've been lurking here for quite some time, and figured I should go ahead and sign up!
A little about me: Ive tried to quit the cancer sticks before, a few years ago, with the Revolver. Gave up on that cause it wasn't doing what I wanted it to do. I tried the Blu disposible a few weeks ago while I was laid up and couldn't go outside to smoke. (I had my spine fused together)
It felt good not to smoke while I was using that, so I went ahead and ordered an EVOD starter kit and a few mini protank 2s and havent looked back since! That was on the 25th of September.
Im looking forward to being a part of the community and to learn all I can!

ETA: I love all things tobacco and nicotine. Its just the stinkies Im getting rid of. I'm a regular cigar and pipe smoker, snus user, and nasal snuff taker!

lol... this turned out to be fairly prophetic. I smoked my last cigarette the day of that first post and have, um, become a "hobbyist".

I'm not sure why I've waited this long to pull the trigger on getting into vaping. I've been intrigued for several years and have a couple of family members who were able to ditch analogs in favor of vaping.

I received a free Njoy cig-a-like sample a few months ago. While it delivered nicotine, it tasted like what I imagine a hobo's underpants would taste like. I was pretty sure that if were to get into vaping, I'd have to go the cig-a-like route due to the curious looking nature of the larger battery/tank units. I've really seen a big uptick in folks vaping in public with non-cigalike devices which I think is the main reason I'm going for it now.

I did some basic "research" and decided to start with an eGo kit - two 900mAh VV Winders with two ARO tanks and the requisite chargers. I also ordered 60ml worth of various juices, two pyrex Vivi Novas and some extra Vivi Nova coils. Stuff should be here today (fingers crossed). I'm a gadget nerd and tinkerer so I fully expect (assuming I actually enjoy vaping) this initial foray to devolve into full blown madness before long.

I'm 43 and have been a PAD smoker for about 25 years. I was able to quit cold turkey once in my late 20's but fell off the wagon about six months later. I've tried the Chantix route a couple times since then but that stuff just doesn't agree with me. So, I'm hoping vaping will make the transition away from tobacco possible.

If my suspicions turn out to be correct, I'll be a frequent visitor and possible contributor here once my infamous "hobby obsession" kicks in. Typically, when I get into something new, I *really* get into it and I'm guessing vaping will no different.

Cartomizer and E Juice Question
Hey all! I am new to vaping and have started with the V2 starter Kit. My question is whether Mountain Oak Vapor E juice is any good and if Boge cartomizers are compatible with the V2 battery? The cartos on the MOV website site is cheaper then V2 and I would love to be able to get all the stuff I need from one place. Thanks!


Say what you want about the V2 but it did get off the cigarettes! LOL

Hey everyone, New to ECF but i have been using this forum to answer almost all of my vaping questions the past 3 months. Just figured it was about time I signed up. Been running my King 3 Mech and Tohb RDA for about 2 weeks now and ECF has been the biggest help of all.

My very first post 09-14-2012

Extreme Newbie.....just now VERY FIRST VAPE!

Ok, just got the material read.....very hesitant about how it was to be put together....picture WAY TOO SMALL in the manual. Filled the thinga-ma-bobbie. Scared to turn it on...didn't want to blow it up or anything, ya know?!?

Went back here before turning it on to see if I could get a picture...no picture with out other things that I don't have (just basic kit stuff)...but did find a video, sorta, kinda. Said what the hell and jumped in.... First "puff"..hmm nothing much. Turn voltage up..(eGo C Twist) ok a littler more vapor. OOOOOHHHH Yeah...I forgot...draw on it at least 5 seconds.....OMG I am a vaper!!!!!!!!!! Ok...time to play with the flavors.

Wish me luck...taking it out tonight actually to our fav watering hole.... along with back-up battery and other misc flavors.

Thank you all for letting me lurk to learn. You have no idea how much all of your posts helped me learn about vaping.

I've been hanging around this forum for 3 months now trying to learn what I could. There is so much info on here it made my head swim, but I finally jumped on board and got an Joy eGo tank system and some juice. It arrived Saturday, got it charged and set up and haven't had an analog for these 2 days now. I went through the disposable e-cigs and those just didn't work for me. I've quit several times using patches, gum and others, but to no avail. Now, I may have finally found what I've been needing. It gives me a lot of hope and inspiration reading all of these posts and seeing the timers counting the days and hours since your last stinkie. I smoked for 40 years and really want this to work.

Posted this a couple of days after starting to vape full time and 3 months after lurking about on ECF just trying to get info.

Hello all.. I'm new to vaping, and purchased the Direct E-Cig. ( Don't worry, I used my PayPal debit card, and won't get rooked into the "small print" automatic re-order I just found out about... )

The unit does work well going by my limited knowledge.. The 5 volt battery lasts a long time, and I get a nice amount of vapor.

My primary question is does anyone know where to purchase additional 5 volt batteries and attys for this unit besides Direct E-Cig for a less expensive price? I did use the search feature here, and on Google.. I read about other companies saying they had a battery that would work, BUT.. It was NOT a 5 volt battery like I have, but lesser voltage. I didn't see a thing mentioned about comparable attys..

Any help would be appreciated...

Personally, I'm moving on to bigger things.. I purchased a Fistpack from the For Sale Forum at a good price, and a Bartleby from the guy that makes them. Both should be here this week. I did alot of research, and I think they will suit my needs well...

Both great devices.. Ahhh, the old days... Many things were a royal PITA, but there were some VERY nice devices being made by talented mod-makers.

HELP!! I started purchasing e-cig equipment before finding this forum.

My first purchase was a Firelight kit (it was cheap!) and I was pleased
in that it replaced my smoking habit.

Then I bought a Best e-ciggy 155 pen-style atty and usb pass thru adapter, better stuff
with more vapor and much easier refill carts.

Now I see everyone discussing 410's, 510's, 810's, different batteries and adapters
any I have NO IDEA what I currently own. Nothing came with a number and I
would hate to be forced only to buy from ONLY the original provider.

Ahh found it. A 'how long did it take you to upgrade" thread from 5/2013:


Started withe Joye 510, then got some "Mega" batteries for it, then got a couple Egos (smallest and biggest).
I'd invested in the 510's and cartos for it, so I like that it's all interchangeable and will probably stick with the Ego, but I'm already moving from cartos to clearomizers - some little ones (Vision Nano) that I can even use on the 510 batts.
And this is all over a period of maybe 2 months vaping. I like my gizmos, lol.

WHAT I HAVEN'T FOUND - if anyone knows of one - a "cone" for my ego that will just taper down to standard 510 carto size. The ones I see have an insert for an atomizer that's far too narrow to allow it to go over a boge carto, for instance. I got one of the "shorty" things, but that just barely reaches from the Ego threads to the carto body - I'd like a longer cone, but sort of "hollow"...

Found that cone I wanted, too

Quit analogs 2 weeks and 1 day ago, definitely a newbie who is learning a lot. Enjoying vaping actually much more than cigs-feel great. I'm from SE pa, smoked for 22 years with periods of quits, this so far has been best/easiest/most sensible manner of quitting for me(used patches before-too much constant nic, gum-ok but lacking, cold turkey-good grief can be trying)-I was afraid to try Chantix b/c my cousin had bad reaction and I'm sensitive to meds so tried gas station blu brand which wasn't best but was a good intro-switched to volt because made more sense to me from the money perspective and enjoy much more than blu. Just giving a brief intro since I've been watching posts and finally decided to join this am. So, this is my first post, 4 more to go


Funny how Bill became quite a mentor of mine on the tfa thread over the last few months, I had just mentioned/recalled this a few months ago there how he was one of first to welcome me to ecf

I loved that Spinner kit I bought, worked perfectly for me, and surprisingly the CE5 I got with it did too.

As my first post to the forum I thought I'd just let you know some things that I've learned so you don't have to.


1. If you've previously been a committed rollup smoker then the cigalikes won't do it for you.


I was married to Golden Virginia hand rolling tobacco for over forty years. We went everywhere together and did everything together. I kissed her last thing at night, and I kissed her first thing in the morning. But now after four decades happily cohabitating we finally got a divorce. Yes, I left the love of my life for a model-thin weedy airhead cigalike. Everybody said it wouldn't last and it didn't. It turned out to be a very short term relationship and it wasn't long before I moved on to something more substantial.


2. Don't buy cheap Chinese knockoff batteries.


So I moved on to a starter kit bought from a local shop. It was a blister kit of the type you can find anywhere - it contained a top coil tank, a USB recharger and a battery that claimed to be an EGO-CE6. And with a bottle of high strength Tobacco liquid I was a very happy chappy. At least for a while. One day I dropped my new ecig onto the carpet - unfortunately it hit a wooden coffee table on the way down and made a distinct cracking sound. On close inspection the inside threads had all stripped so the tank wouldn't hold on and it would no longer screw onto the charger. So I bought another kit, this time from a reputable online supplier, with a genuine Joyetech battery. The comparison between the two batteries showed the genuine article is much better built with 50% more threads than the Chinese one, and it carries the CE mark familiar from all my other modern electrical equipment which indicates that it has passed a minimum of design and quality control standards.


3. So you've got a decent ecig and a few bottles of juice but it isn't doing it for you anymore.


You've probably been using your ecig for a month or two, but it isn't having the same effect - you're holding down the battery button for longer, and taking deeper draws, but you still feel cravings for more - maybe you're even thinking about going back to tobacco. Well the good news is it probably isn't you - it's your equipment. Coils and wicks don't last forever and yours are probably getting worn out. The more wear they get the less effective they are so it's time to replace the coil or just get another tank.


4. All tobacco flavours are filled with a liquid that tastes almost, but not quite, entirely unlike tobacco*.


There, I've said it. If you're looking for a tobacco flavour to replace the taste that you got from real tobacco then you're going to be disappointed. I haven't tasted every tobacco flavour around - there's just too many - but I even bought a flavour called Golden Vi which tasted almost, but not quite, entirely unlike Golden Virginia.


5. Don't throw away a bottle of fluid that you don't like.


It costs too much to waste so try mixing it with another flavour. I bought a bottle of Cappuccino by iBreathe, and was actually pleasantly surprised to find that it did actually taste like a sweet milky coffee. But it was far too sweet for my liking for regular use, so I mixed it 50/50 with some Dekang Coffee flavour to add some bitterness to it and came up with a very acceptable flavour. However, I still haven't found a way to improve the Golden Vi. So it goes.


6. Pay attention when replacing the battery on your Evod tank,


So I was paying attention to my monitor and reading a forum while sucking on the teat of mother nicotine when the battery started flashing. I like to think I'm a busy guy and wanted to carry on reading while replacing the battery so I held the battery at the bottom and the Evod at the top and unscrewed. This sounds like a simple task but if you hold them like that there's a 50/50 chance that instead of unscrewing the battery you'll actually unscrew the top of the Evod from the bottom and deposit all the fluid on your shirt, which will then need washing. They say that people learn from experience - well one day I do hope to learn from experience as I've only done it three times already.


7. Do you need a variable voltage battery?


I bought an Ego Twist for the sake of experimentation. Turning up the voltage produces loads more vapour, if that's your thing, but it's not really mine. I was more interested in what it did for the taste and flavour. Turning the voltage up to full results in a burning taste that ruins most flavours but can help some. Coffee is helped by a little burnt taste, and almost any of the tobacco flavours can be improved by giving some of the burnt flavour that you get from real tobacco. It'll still taste almost, but not quite, entirely unlike tobacco but it'll be closer than it was before.

Been reading a lot here but much more to read so if I accidentally do something wrong don't put me in the corner . I've been vaping since March I think? I don't remember exactly, weird eh. Was a 30 year tobacco smoker. A carton of analogs here can be bought for $20. Anyway I'll be reading and posting and look forward to getting to know everyone!
