I don't have a problem doing a poll. I just don't think a public poll with the questions you have would make sense to people outside this thread because they won't know what we are talking about.

A text based poll within this thread is fine, IMO. Or a poll designed for all of ECF is fine too. Just mixing the two is tough.

Nope, my vote on public pole is nada

b. choose can or cannot be self-started

2. Options for Avatar parties:

b. choose between exceptions can be made and exceptions cannot be made if circumstances warrant I.e. military service, illness, emergency, internet problems

C. Anybody with either a welcome thread or avi party who is present at the fireworks is eligible for the grand prize drawing
a. choose between must be present on the PVT thread at the time of turning, or must be present within 15 minutes of time of turning

Ok...shred away.... ;) :)

how it works now....

1. welcome thread - entitles the prevet to an entry in the monthly contests. to get a thread, all that is needed is to ask for one or have an ecf vet start it in the new vets forum prior to turning. (In practice it has always come through PVT. )

2. avatar party- must request and be present on the PVT thread at the exact time that they joined, any deviations from the original timing results in disqualification from the entry for the grand prize.

Options for what we want

primary choices in Red. My second choice options are in violet

bringing it up to the front with primary choices in Red. My second choice options are in violet

how it works now.... (I think. Need jj's input)

1. Welcome thread - entitles the prevet to an entry in the monthly contests. To get a thread, all that is needed is to ask for one or have an ecf vet start it in the new vets forum prior to turning. (In practice it has always come through PVT. )

2. avatar party- must request and be present on the PVT thread exactly 365 days after the time that they joined ECF and be present when the fireworks go off, any deviations from the original timing results in disqualification from the entry for the grand prize.

3. JJ2 marks the welcome threads for eligibility in the grand prize drawing according to attendance of the Avatar Party and compliance with the published rules.

4. The new-veteran (the pre-vet after he/she has turned) makes an entry into the contest by posting a link to their welcome thread in the contest entry thread per the posted rules.

Options for what we want

1. welcome thread - entitles the prevet to an entry in the monthly contests. The welcome thread will be in the "new vets welcome forum" (a sub-forum in the veterans area) and created as a result of explicitly requesting it or an Avatar Party in the Pre-Veteran Thread (PVT) prior to turning. You may request: (A) Welcome Thread Only, a (B) Welcome Thread with a theme, or (C) Welcome Thread with Avatar Party (always themed).
(NOTES IN BLUE: Obviously cannot be self started if prior to turning. This is what "ties" it to PVT and also how we verify eligibility for low post counters that have been with ECF over a year but are not vets yet)

2. Grand Prize eligibility same as monthly contests.

3. The new-veteran (the pre-vet after he/she has turned) makes an entry into the contest by posting a link to their welcome thread in the contest entry thread per the posted rules.

NOTE: This is the "Cliff Note" that j0ker requested. In practice we can explain stuff better: What is an avatar party?, provide a sample Welcome Thread, etc.

Please make changes in and re-post the whole thing as you make edits.....

My votes/suggestions above/

Dang CES. I'm Soooo sorry. lol. I edited several times, added stuff. The whole dang thing is red. Darn. Wasn't my original intent. Just had "ideas".

i chose this because we already have turned down people numerous times

my preferred option is incomplete - turning times can be postponed - kiss principle

"Exceptions can be made" adds a degree of arbitrariness that normally people might want to avoid, a Deus Ex Machina factor, unless you can actually define the exceptions up front.

(Very nice work, a nice capture of various options :) )

Yeah, and you CAN'T define them. Who's to say that a person going into the hospital unexpectedly is more/less important than someone on active duty that gets called. Or their pet gets loose and they have to chase it. Or whatever. It's so arbitrary that it creates a serious problem.

Also, how do you verify anything? So ... "Sure, I was in the hospital with a hang-nail" get's an automatic OK anyway. Renders the whole thing useless IMO.

Ok,

Atty, your red 2 and 3 are mutually exclusive- grand prize eligibility can't be the same as for welcome threads AND require attendance at an avi prty

tibs, i should have specified- present at the fireworks was meant to be inclusive of default forum time OR rescheduled turnig...

now I'm off to work..

Good catch. It was copied from above... I've edited it and removed the erroneous need for thread marking.... assuming we go with that option.

We still need to confirm how eligibility, even for the monthly, is verified tho. JJ (and j0ker) may provide input here to confirm.

Technically we (the all inclusive collective "we") don't do anything contest related now, although we continue to create welcome threads... which is part of it I guess. It's jj and j0ker now... but contest stuff needs to be in the cliff notes as I understand the request.

jj2. I'd like your input into the top 1/2 of CES's post at minimum. Also, if they create their own thread outside of PVT, how do you verify that they turned vet this year if it's not obvious by the join-date?

I check those several times a day. The outside of PVT were opened in plenty of time for me to check the members profile.

Basically adding more rules is why this wasn't publicized. It's a good one since it picks up people who don't want a lot of hoopla.
Option here that gives me plenty of time: Stipulate the thread has to be open 3 -5 days before the join date?

That's not my understanding of what j0ker asked for. So IDK whis. Maybe he needs to tell us what the cliff notes should contain.

We don't do much contest related. The welcome thread links are part of the contest rules, but ..... that's a function of the rules. We create them either way as part of the celebrations (contest or no contest). Some people have even created their own. So...depends on what he's asking for I guess.
