one monkey wrench for atty ;)

some people don't like too much fuss. look at ever1ast! but care enough to turn with us - same goes for xaiver
some people love the pics to look through but don't want to be there at the turning

if we let them chose what they want and bestow a bonus to all who make it through the turning with us, no matter what they chose before, it simplifies matters imo

Atty, i really think this is the last main thing that we have to work out....and it's really been the underlying issue all along. how do we encourage people to be present at something they'll end up enjoying immensely, but don't really understand before the fact?

the options for grand prize eligibility
1. must be present at the exact time of fireworks
2. must be present within a range of time near the fireworks
3. we hope they'll be present but will not penalize them for having a life.

if no-shows are a problem, and we require an avi party for entry in grand prize portion of the contest, do we increase the chances that people will request something they don't really want and will forget or decide not to bother at the last minute? I'm sensitive to the desire to see the title change, and not want to be a clearing house for welcome threads....but as Katya says, don't forget that we are awesome, and we had plenty of people to celebrate with long before there was a contest

(i think there can be a number of options in a poll- up to 12? and people could vote for more than one. the first step would be to list each option and it's permutations since i think it's also difficult to edit polls once they've been started)

that could be decided on a case-to-case basis - but sometimes it's hard to qualify a ''hair''

From a contest rules standpoint it complicates things, not simplifies them. That's what we found out with this whole thing and why we're having this discussion. Like MarkFM and other have said... the more restrictions we have, the more problems we have. (Paraphrased).

since they would have the opportunity to chose a good time to attend i see no problems enforcing an attendance rule

Well, other than "one more rule to enforce"... I see your point. But WHY? Will it really change anything? Like CES said that Kat said that several have said....( ;) ) We were awesome even before there was a contest, and we had avatar parties.

EDIT: eligibility is the issue for the G.P. There's only one winner. So that statement is always true.

and let's remember - not being included in the year-end drawing is just losing the CHANCE to win, not losing the prize. anybody will still be in the monthly drawings ....

I mentioned this point before.

OK folks. But I remind you that what we are discussing IS the eligibility rules, not the winner. So the point is moot if you think about it.

The remaining question on the table is: What are the eligibility rules for the Grand Prize?

my vote goes to ''attendance' during the turning'' for both welcome thread prevets and avi party prevets with flexibility [no restrictions] in timing

still need a thread starter for july. we have an extended vacation coming between 6-25 and 7-08. let's use that time to finish up in here

@ atty - i rethought your kiss principle for avi postponement and now agree. it's highly unlikely that anyone interested in ecf would be prepared to stay logged off any longer than necessary. kiss would eliminate complicated regulations and restrictions.

so, once again - 1. welcome thread > unchanged except for all going through pvt = entry, monthly drawing
2. avi party > entry, monthly drawing

new rule : ANYBODY from 1, and 2. above who attends the turning - exact time or postponed - gains the additional entry for drawing of grand prize

I forward this, Atty..............

Another problem I'd like to see a solution for once this is set.

Going in and marking those threads is irritating. For me for having to do and to others because they have to look at them.

I'm hoping with the final outcome of this that this can be eliminated. If there is more than one category entry wise could you come up with something the opener can put in the title. Something like smiley's.

If you make a mistake, then you have time (two days I think), to go back and change it. If it runs later then tell me what change is needed and I'll take care of it.

Thank you. :)

We'll let's at least get some text nailed down then. Tibby, can you publish a "What we do now" "What we want to do" Cliff Note post? Kind of like you do for the list. The whole thing in one post. Then we'll beat it up.

This keeps things moving and has some text we can all read and agree on.

Polls are OK. I remind you that it may be visible to the entire ECF crew and it may get votes from people that aren't in this discussion. That could be good or bad depending on intent.
