Ages ago I used to have a nice salt-water coral reef setup........ $$$$$$..... 4 day power failure ended most of that (no generator at apartment). Long story.
Anyway, I'll take the current dog over that.........

Now don't get me wrong, I love Buddie to death. But I didn't want another dog.
I wasn't even sure I wanted another pet, but would have gone for a cat.
But everybody kept at me cause DH wanted another dog.
So I gave in on the condition that I didn't have to take care of the dog.
Right out of High School, Mom got sick and me and sis helped take care of her.
I got married. My mom lived to see my youngest turn one.
Then came son. At some point and time both kids have returned home. Son is here now until he gets married in May.
So for 42+ years, I've been taking care of someone.
Actually with a disabled DH, I will be for a long time (I hope and pray).
Eight years ago DH swore he'd take care of the dog. Son said he'd help. Daughter said it would be great to have a dog to walk with.
I wouldn't have minded helping. But DH feeds and waters the dog, pets, and loves her (what I wanted).
I do everything else.
My walks have turned into doggie walks.
Buddie is now 10 years old. If I had my way, she'd live forever.
But of course, she won't. AND there will be no other puppy dogs.

I'm not going to let Sea take on the extra work of starting all the welcome threads for August. I will take care of the ones that are mine to start for this month.
Oh I love dogs and cats. We'd always had one or the other. I've just reached a time in my life that I don't want the responsibility.
