-Slanted knurl look on lock ring

AS far as compatibility of ELA vs ELA II.

The body, locking ring, compression band, button, button slide, button shield are all different and not compatible or swappable between the two.

Accent rings(both top and bottom), top caps, slant caps, adjustable draw caps, extension tubes (both regular and XL), adjustable hybrid post, springs, locking spring plunger and bottom button contact are all interchangeable.

Sorry for the noob question but since I will be receiving my first ELA I was wondering what the compression band is for.

Band inside the knurled locking ring. Locking mechanism.

Made of aluminum or brass. Can be replaced. They may wear out over time.

Ah I see. So why would someone choose brass over Aluminum or vice versa?

Originally, they were only aluminum. We needed some, and he did not have any aluminum available at the time. So he made some brass. I assume they are again being made from aluminum. Just mentioned the brass, just so you know. There are some floating around out there. :)

ELA classic all the way, I'm all about that knurling...and being able to use a Satburn button.

We'll be making extra locking rings in the classic standard knurling and another style too as well as this slant style and offer them separately too so you can mix and match :)
