President Obama is still struggling to kick smoking, according to his first medical examination since becoming president.
Obama is sensitive about his cigarette habit and tetchy with reporters who raise it. But after his 90-minute medical at the Navy hospital outside Washington yesterday morning, his doctors confirmed he had not yet managed to conquer the habit and suggested he "continue smoking cessation efforts".
The doctors said the president used medication to try to ease the pangs, they described it as "nicotine replacement therapy, self-use".
Obama promised Michelle when he embarked on his campaign to become president he would quit, at the time he said he was smoking about eight a day.
He told reporters last year he had quit but still had an occasional cigarette, without specifying how many.
His health was described as excellent and he does not have to return for another medical until 2012. Obama, who is 48, has 20-20 vision, weighs 179 llbs in his shoes and clothes, and requires little medication. Apart from the nicotine replacement, he uses a non-steroid anti-inflammatory medication associated with physical activity: he regularly plays basketball at the White House.
The doctors also recommended "moderation of alcohol intake".
Some one seriously needs to send him a 510 starter kit!

lol I sent him a email..

Hello Mr. Obama

I was reading today and noticed that you had promised to quit smoking when you became president. Being a smoker of 15 yrs myself of a pack a day I know that this is hard to do. Personally I tried many products on the market to quit, but honestly I just enjoy having a smoke. Until I bought myself a e-cig I had my doubts about them but within 3 days I had no desire to smoke another cig. I would highly recommend looking into this. If you would like more information on this product look at www.e-cigarette-forum.com

Have a wonderful day, and good luck on quitting smoking

I can think of too many reasons why he might not choose the e-cigarette approach for himself. What would be the effect (on a public that doesn't understand it) of a stealth photo of the President stealth-vaping? That said, he's voiced some sympathy for the plight of would-be quitters. Maybe it wouldn't be hoping too much for him to let fly with something off the cuff like "From what I've heard, it's a good way to quit."

If President Obama tried and was successful at quitting tobacco with the use electronic cigarettes then we win the battle. It is an automatic. Something tells me that he is committed to quitting but has failed using the patch, gum etc... Now on the other hand I am sure he has tried an E-Cig but it was probally njoy or another company that charges an arm and a leg so they can have a decked out website, mall kiosks etc... Now if he tries and is unsuccessful well I hate to say it but we may be doomed. It will depend on weather he comes out and says I have tried e-cigs and they are a great idea but its not for me or if he comes out and says I have tried e-cigs and they are the worst thing you can buy. God I hope this doesn't back fire. Now for peeps thinking we should send him a starter kit, don't even think about it. It will never even make it close to the President. He is going to have to make this purchase himself.

for the record... and not exactly off topic but kind of a detour topic... if i were president i would smoke where ever the heck i wanted lol..(but away from people that didnt like it) i would only refrain from smoking around kids and people with lung issues...

Im president arrest me....lol

Similiar view here.... except this part "(but away from people that didnt like it) i would only refrain from smoking around kids and people with lung issues..."

People who didn't like it and with lung issues and kids would be informed that I smoked and they would have to make their own decisions about being around me. All anti-smoking lobbyists would be banned from the White House.

NOW if you come to me and then complain not only will i go out of my way to get the smoke around you i will tell you what your problems are and why people like you( those complaining not you) need to die off so the the rest of the world can get along...

Yea I agree that if president obama was to announce that he quit smoking analog's due to the use of the ecig that would be great for the community and the life of the ecig. However like someone else mentioned in an earlier post, sending him a starter kit would not be an option in my opinion because it would never make it to him so him purchasing one himself would be the only feasible option but even then with the looks of alot of the pipes the media would have a field day with pictures of obama toking on a ecig that may some what look like another type of smoking device.

As Prez, you'd be in a 'bubble' anyway. It isn't like people can just come up to you. At rallies, shaking hands and stuff, then you wouldn't likely to be smoking anyway but I suppose you could. The point is, is that people would know 'the President smokes and may smoke at any time, so take that into consideration if you intend to be within range.'.

That's the way, Lab! Thanks for emailing our president. I wish he would get this message. I know if he were shown the best flavored nicPV, how could he turn it down? Just like the rest of - what - conservatively a third million former U.S. smokers, eh?

C'mon! Do it! Get this done. Timmah!
