Hi and welcome to ECF. Even if they are fakes you still came out ok. The price is a little high but not that bad for 2 complete starter kits. Consider yourself lucky, I spent well over $100 for a POS that didn't even work right. I quickly moved on and to the 510. I've got Joye and generic 510 parts, and as far as I can tell they work equally well. If you're happy with it great. But if they're generic and sold under the Joye name its misreprensentation on the part of the seller.

T-Rex's, Tornados, and Riva's are all eGo knock-offs, but that doesn't make them bad. Lots of people use them and really like them because in most cases they're cheaper. You just have to be careful who you buy them from.

I thought the tornado was just a rebranded ego? I have both but I like my tornado a lot better.

Most likely they all come off the same assembly line in China, Riva's and Tornado's I've read good reviews of T-Rex I've not heard a whole lot about, in fact the ones I saw were 900mah while the ones on this site say 650.

The T-Rex and the Riva ARE knock-offs. They are not made by Joye, and they are not eGo's.

The Tornado is a Joye eGo which was re-branded by Totally Wicked. But they are Joye products, and they are eGo's.

Does that matter? Up to you. Some knock-offs work great, others don't.

I stand corrected then. Thank you MistressNomad.

I got an answer from the people I bought mine from. As soon as I have permission, I will post their responce. I'm not un-happy. Matter of fact, I'm very happy with the units I bought. Just was curious about all the confusion and when I post the responce it may clear up a lot of issues for us all.

Soooo, as soon as I have permission, I'll post the replay I got.

Here was my question:

I recently ordered a Joye 510 Sweetheart deal. It appears, from what I am reading on some sites around the internet, that I may have received an imposter/knock off Joye 510. Every picture I have seen of the fake vs the real 510 indicates mine are fake.

You tell me, what did I get?

Here is the reply:

Subject: "Real" Joye 510

There are many different manufacturers of Joye 510 e-cigarettes. The original, made by Joye Tech, as well as Joye 510s (yes, that's exactly what they call them) made by Sai Lebao, MJT, and FeelLife Bioscience, to name a few. Nowhere does it say on our website that we sell Joye Tech Joye 510s.

The original, made by Joye Tech, had atomizers that failed so often during the first week, that we (and our customers) spent a ton shipping replacements and defective atomizers back and forth (which might explain why so many web sites selling the original have changed their policy and only guarantee them against being dead on arrival). Sai Lebao made a decent enough atomizer (although it operated at a half an ohm more resistance) but their batteries had a sticky button problem. FeelLife Bioscience did not have battery or atomizer problems (again the atomizer operated at a half ohm more resistance), but sometimes their parts did not "play well" with parts from other manufacturers.

In the end, after doing a head-to-head-to-head-to-head test (something no other company has done that I know of), we switched to the MJT Joye 510. They make the best atomizer, don't have sticky button issues and our return/replacements are far lower than they were with Joye Tech, Sai Lebao or FeelLife Bioscience. Will there be occasional problems? We count on it; but nothing like with the other ones. You can read about the test we did here.

We have sold 510s by all four of those companies and, in the end, sell the ones that are manufactured the best with the least amount of problems. We don't like failing components any more than our customers do. There are a lot of ...... out there that believe that, because Joye Tech made the original Joye 510, that theirs must be the best. If we all operated on that simplistic mentality, we'd still be driving Ford Model T's.

We switched to the MJT Joye 510 a little over a month ago. Since then, we have had exactly one problem atomizer and absolutely no other components that failed. That's 10-20 times less returns than with any other manufacturer.

In responce I said:

Scott,

Thank you very much for this information. I'm glad to see such a quick responce to my question. If I may, I would like to post this responce on the 2 ecig forums I am a member of as there are a few of those ...... out there as you mentioned. They need to read this, just as I did. I'm new to vaping and did a lot of reading before I ordered anything from anyone. I felt your site was legit and now I know I've made a pretty good choice. I'm still learning and still vaping and am just about ready to give up real cigarettes after only having my e-cig for 3 days.

Again, thanks so much for educating me!

Scott can say what he wants, but calling it a Joye 510 is misleading to customers, even if that's its name. If Zhongguo Motors makes a Ford Focus knockoff and calls it a Ford Focus, that does not entitle dealers to knowingly represent it as a Ford Focus. The distinction he's drawing is something like: "I didn't say it was a Ford Motor Company Focus." Disingenuous nonsense.

Which isn't to say it won't be great. It very well might be, given all he said.

By the way, I just ordered a 510 kit that was even cheaper than that, and I have little expectation it will be Joye Tech. Just hoping for the best, I suppose.

Calling a knockoff a Joye 510 is misrepresentation IMO. Something described just as a "510" on the other hand could be anything. I do wish suppliers wouldn't try to hide the original manufacturers though. In the UK its fairly straightforward as I believe only Totally Wicked and Janty are authorised to sell the Joye products here, so if you get them from anywhere else its a pretty sure thing you will be getting a copy. I'm happy to be corrected on that if its not the case. As said already though not all knockoffs are bad, some perform just as well as the original.
