And now for some bad news...

Before I built the mod I tested the DNA40 and it powered up and looked great, then I spent the whole evening soldering and building, and now the mod works great for 15min, then the screen starts to glitch and lock up :( I have to take the top off and put it back on and it resets and is fine for a little while.

I called Evolv and talked to Steve. Very friendly guy, BTW. The only thing I can do is desolder the board and return it. Steve said that they are just replacing all v1.1 and v1.2 chips and he said that I should just send all 4 of my chips back and that he would send out brand new ones.

I bought my boards from MikeP's coop, so if anybody else did the same they may want to consider replacing them. Anybody else from the coop having this issue?

I tried one in a test before doing the whole assembly thing. It glitches 1 time out of 15 fires. I was thinking of keeping but now it is not worth the trouble. I have 5 and I will not wait to test them all. My test rig parts are not here yet and come to think about it it is faster to just ship them back and receive brand new ones it seems. I just hope to get them before Christmas :(.

The issue is pretty widespread with the first batches. Apparently they thought they fixed it with a bit of silicone but it didn't take.

Yep, screen lock up didn't show up for me till after soldering into the mod. Was in their PO box Monday according to tracking. Just waiting now, but gives some time for more sizes of NI200 wire to show up.....and some .05mm thick NI200 foil. Gonna see how hard it is to slice the foil into ribbon.

Well, I am pretty sure my DNA40 board just went kaput on me.

I was vaping happily along when all of a sudden my screen decided to freak out on me(first time ever.) I reset it by removing the cap and it continued to work normally for another minute or so.
Then....it just stops doing anything. Screen won't light up, it won't fire, nothing.
I checked all my connections and everything is solid. Fire switch is working correctly, verified with my multimeter. Negative battery connection is adjusted properly and I checked with multiple batteries.

Is there anything else I need to check before opening a ticket or whatever with Evolv?

Did the screen glitch / garble? It's strange that it stopped working altogether after a battery reset. Unfortunately it looks like you'll have to RMA it.

Yeah the screen glitched on me. It still worked fine for a minute after resetting, then just stopped showing all signs of life mid hit.

I have checked all my solder points and checked for continuity through all my wires and connection points.

It is toast. I am starting a RMA with Evolv. Makes me sad that I will be without my favorite device for at least a couple weeks :(.

It has been decided for me, I must begin building a backup GDNA pronto so this doesn't happen again :).

OK. I think I've got the chip and printed parts squared away. Now I'm trying to find a complete parts kit. Anyone have a leftover from a co-op?

you might get better visibility and response in the 'wanted' ads but to my knowledge nobody took more than they were prepared to use. some people though bought parts on their own with lots left over - you would have to go through this thread to see who they were :(

Anyone know if there is going to be another co op for dna 40s or these awesome printed parts, or (crosses fingers) both? I have been looking for these parts on sculpteo are they not available to the public? This has to be the best PV ever designed.

As for the DNA40...if I would venture a guess, I would say that there probably will be another co op...after the first of the year most likely. The printed parts are available now on either sculteo or shapeways
sculpteo Gdeal's DNA v3.1
Look for the one that says something about "all parts"

There was never a coop for the 3D printed parts. There's really no savings to be had by doing one. The savings were on the DNA40 ('cause the coop got wholesale pricing) and on the miscellaneous hardware needed (due to MOQs on some of the parts, as well as the large number of vendors those parts must be ordered from, which means the shipping costs really add up if you're only ordering enough parts to build a few mods).

For some of us, it really is the best PV ever designed. Between a couple of these, the smaller mechanical version, and a couple of pdib's wooden mechanicals (which inspired these mods), I don't need want anything else.

OK, I lied. I still want the DNA40 guts in a wooden shell.
