Any pro tips here on how best to pre-test a dna40 board prior to gracing it with a GD frame?

Also pro tips on what & where to glue and what glue works best would be great. I know many of you must have learned some painful lessons along the way. ;-)

I certainly can't help with pro tips ... those will need to come from others! :)

As far as a tester goes ... with recent boards I'm not sure testing is necessary? But if you have older release boards like from the last co-op time frame, the odds of having an issue are quite high. I have no clue how to identify one board release from another. I just used an old mod shell rigged up with an external plug and simply taped a board to the outside so I could evaluate it live with the onboard buttons. Several pictures in that link if you're interested.

For glue I've used both superglue and 2 part epoxy. I'm probably done with superglue because I end using epoxy to beef up the holding points anyhow. I use a lot of epoxy around here! Harbor Freight epoxy works fine so just about any 2 part will work as good or better I'm using a bottle set from Hobby King and I like how easy and cleanly they dispense just the little dabs I typically use. I use sticky note tabs and a toothpick for mixing up just what I'll use in a minute or so.

I have pictures and videos of most of this mod assembly but haven't had time to go through them. A few pictures of gDNA40

TyCreek, I was hoping I'd get lucky with my units, but I've come to the harsh and time consuming reality of realizing I'll need to build a testing unit to test my others before sending back my first failed unit.

LOL, By sheer dumb luck I only clued the magnet and +/- connections to the base frame ;) I read that you had to cut your boards out (bummer), couldn't you have used nail polish remover to help get them apart? For me it helped "unstick" my up/down buttons after I got a little carried away with the super glue :)

Acetone works good for loosening super glue and I did try some but time to let it soak adequately all the way around the magnet proved a slow process and looked like it would push out boxing up my RMA boards farther so a sharp knife got me there fast!

AWESOME!!!! AWESOME!!!! Photos my friend! Can't begin to tell you how much these are going to help me!
The build DOC is of course AWESOME!!! as well but between yours and gDeals hard work I think I might actually stand a chance at building this thing finally. Funds availability will mean I have to pull this off the first time without destroying anything. Gdeals is well organized and laid out but with a second view of some of the details during the different stages I think my puny brain might be able to fill in any remaining gaps.

THANKS SO MUCH for taking the time to help out!

BTW: I have an alternate squonk setup I have come up with taking from several ideas here including the SS tube in the bottle. Love that. Seems to be working well during my dry run tests. If it works out I will be sharing soon myself.

THanks Again ALL!

Anyone have any extra mini T connectors. I'm on my second round with Hobby King and they can't seem to get them to me and I can't seem to source them anywhere else or locally for that matter. Any help would be appreciated. I really want to get this thing built

If you want them real quick, goto your local RC hobby shop and ask for DEANS connectors. Those are the originals and not the less quality ones Hobby King sells. The originals are a bit more expensive, but worth every penny.

Cheers.

I was thinking the same thing, but the mini Deans are much larger than these black "T" connectors. Unless there is maybe a micro Deans that my local didn't have, out of luck. Been searching a ton for a suitable replacement, let out a big sigh and bought 5 damn bags of the things...from HobbyKing..argh....But I will never, ever run out again!....damnit! lol

I am actually trying to achieve as close as I can get to Rossum's grand wizard horde hoarders status.

correct me if i'm wrong - but didn't rossum donate most of his surplus to a certain co-op?

The dean connectors are different. These look similar to the hobby king version. Cant guarantee it, but you may get lucky.....

http://www.ebay.com/itm/5-Black-Mal...Control_Parts_Accessories&hash=item35e236b644

The DEANS are exactly the same. See here: Amazon.com: 10 Pair T Plug Connectors Deans Style Male and Female Connectors: Electronics or better here: Deans - Plugs

Be it as it may, I prefer Anderson power poles for all my RC stuff. Don't exceed 50A on the original DEANS, or ..... don't ask how I know. Helis are power hungry beasts.......

Next thought is: A remote controlled squonker.... :p

Cheers.

I have bin thinking about building another Gdeal all I'm missing is 2 mini T connectors and the small nut in the cap
Is the eBay link the proper connectors? The nut is in stock at mouser :)
I compared the 3D printed Parts at SW & S. SW is a few bucks more, but I have the choice of different colour parts were at S The whole unit comes in one colour.
I was eyeing an orange body & Cap with a Black ring and button :)
I don't really need another one but what the heck :)

The Deans ones aren't exactly the same, they are missing the lip that helps us secure them in place. You may still be able to use them, but they aren't "exactly" the same.
Without the lip they may be a little harder to glue them in perfectly straight.

Of those particular parts, yes. But that wasn't just a surplus, or normal hoarding, that was a foul up. He meant to order 20 connectors, not 20 bags of 10 connectors.

I know gdeal has been working on it, and this question may have been asked before, but how long do we expect it will be before we have a large screen gdna shell?

I just want to know so I can order the right type of boards from the co-op when it goes live. I don't want to order the big screens if the shell for it is going to take 5 more months.

Regarding a "Stainless steel" ring from Shapeways that was too small:

"Hey Terry,

I have received the following feedback regarding your complaint.

"We do not do a quality check on these parts and check the dimensions, and thus we cannot guarantee. Unfortunately a reprint will not result in a better outcome".

Since you are not happy with the part you received, I have issued store credit for the part back to your account.

You may use it for a future purchase (via the apply credit button during check out).

Please feel free to reach out to me for any further questions or concerns."
