Well I sure wish I had gone with Shapeways for the Alumide internals, but at least the body and top cap came out ok on mine. Not quite as uniform as yours Mack, but I'm pretty happy with it.
I actually like the print lines on the sculpteo one. But definitely will get an alumide from shapeways as well. The difference in shade of color is big it seems from the pics so it is nice to have both.
My only question is: polished or non polished? is it this same dark color?

I actually like the look, almost looks like stone. Or concrete. Maybe you can paint it matte and give it some "shading" (apply paint and rub it off) to make it even more like stone. Apply some green color to the bottom and rub it off to give it a "mossy" look or something. Maybe even paint some windows on it to make it look like a 60s apartment complex. Or how those started to look in the 90s.
Just spitballing but I'd just roll with it

Here's my Sculpteo aluminide parts. I actually don't mind the poor resolution of the print but that's just me.
Grey Steel, three coats, no clear coat.
I'm not sure what color I'm going to do the ring/button yet, I think the display will look nice on this silver, I'm going for lots of coats bc I'm pretty hard on my toys I want it to last as long as possible.
I gotta say gdeal, these things are petty tiny, I love it !

oh hahaha, That's just a foam board I picked up. Too ashamed to take a pic of my workspace since its littered with tallboys.
I'm probably just going to clear coat it since the tolerances are pretty tight with the ring, it already fits on pretty tight and I don't want to make it any thicker.

hey guys, just wanted to mention here because I have seen anyone else mention anything about dying parts yourselves... white nylon can be dyed at home easily with clothing dye. I used to do it all the time back in my RC days, the longer you soak then the darker and more penetration you get. I mention this because in many cases it may be better to fit and sand your parts first and then dye them yourselves
