pro tank fans that rebuild

first things first, hi guys. Been floating around ECF for awhile but finally building up my posts so I can interact more.

Been using a Protank with an eGo battery as my main setup. I find it dependable.

I've been doing some homework on Protanks because I really like the fact you can maintain it on your own with wires and wicks.

Of you guys that rebuild, do you prefer with a flavor wick or without? why so? Thanks in advance for helping out.

Without. I've been using 3 mm silica and occasionally cotton and I think they wick much better without the flavor wick (and I'm not 100% convinced a flavor wick actually enhances the flavor).

No one rebuilds with a flavor wick that I am aware of ...why would you? ...the flavor of the wick will interfere with the natural flavor of the juice.

I rebuild mine with cotton and no flavor killing wicks. They just seem to get in the way of the flavor and vapor production. I just make the wick a little bit bigger to take up the extra space the loose wicks usually take up.

If you device doesn't leak, then never, but this has a lot to do with what juice I'm using. I use a PG/VG mix and don't have any problems. I don't usually remove the flavor wicks from the new heads that I have bought though. Seems to work fine with my juice either way.

I just started rebuilding my evod heads (basically same as protank), and I used a doubled over 2mm ekowool with 30awg kanthal, came out to like 1.2~1.3 ohms... works great, the second piece of eko built into the coil acts as a "flavor wick" with the benefit that I don't have to remove it when I go to dry burn.

Without. I'm using cotton balls for my wick and 32awg kanthal. And dental floss to block on of the air holes.

In a Protank, the first function of the wick is to plug up the hole so that it doesnt leak. The liquid pressure is more than enough to keep your wick saturated at all times. So use extra wick if it leaks, if it doesnt then dont.

I rewick mine with cheesecloth and do add the flavor wick (only because I figured it was there for a reason and was afraid it would leak without it). After reading some of the other comments, though, I think I'll leave it out next time and see if I can tell any difference.

I use ss mesh in mine best flavor IMO. I have a few heads set up different. If I use a high pg juice I like a tight solid wick with higher vg I make a slightly hollow wick. Heck I have even made a sub ohm head for my mech it was kinda cool but not as good as my genni.

Thanks for the feedback so far. Only thing holding me back is getting the materials for it. Fortunately this site has protanks, wicks and wiring..makes it easier for me to order it all in one place. The airflow mod looks pretty sweet too.
