I just bought it a week ago. it was working just fine last night. The battery is fully charged. I have two clearomizers and two mods. I have the Aspire Atlantis and Kangertech Clearomizer and the Variant box mod and the Itaste VTR. When I screwed in the Kangertech into my Itaste VTR I was working just fine so the coil isnt dead. The coil is brand new for both of them. When I screwed in the Kangertech to the Variant, it says "check atty" on the screen and wont vape. It does the same thing with any other atomizer. It was working just fine yesterday. What could I do about this? Is it defective?

It's likely a connector issue with the box. Take a small screwdriver or the like and try to pry the center pin of the 501 connector on the box up just a bit. Don't force it - just see if it will come out a bit.

The "check atty" just means that the unit feels it's not connected to a tank.

the check atty problem has nothing to do with the atty at all in most cases. i had same problem its the fire button the fire button goes bad and to check atty u have to hit the fire button. to check to see if this is correct check your atty on different device and then trouble shoot the device will it turn on and off and can you turn it up or down if you answer yes to all of that then most likely your button is bad get a new tac button heat the soldier up on the bored and pull old button out heat soldier up again and put new one in that should fix the problem.

if this works for you let me know i just had the same problem with 2 of them

I had the same problem with the first Variant I received; mine stopped working on the second day. When you hit the fire button does the fire indicator on top of the mod flash red instead of green? If it does then you can rule out a bad fire button. Next step is to take a screwdriver and push down on the 510 connector to make sure the spring release works properly. If so, then you could also try using something pointy or fine tipped tweezers to slighter pry or pull up the 510 pin a tad and see if that fixes it.

If these don't work your options are to either try to take it apart and check the 510 connection to the board or try to return it for replacement. I considered taking mine apart, but opted against it because I got mine from vaportekusa and they were willing to replace it for me.

Looks like a clean board design. Not much that could go wrong and not kill functionality.

Check Atomizer = Button is working, processing system is working. Mod is waiting for a readable resistance input.
Likely causes:
Atomizers not contacting center pin. - Verify pin heights
Atomizer not readable. - Confirm build, clean 510 threading
Connections, Internal - Either positive or negative wire to 510 could be disconnected at 510 or board - Cold solder failure
Damaged Trace on output side of board - repair trace(jumper soldered in place)

Beyond this point it would likely be a component failure on the atomizer side of the board. Return for service.

with mine it was a bad button, when u get it it says check atty you need to hit the fire button for it to read the atty for the first time or when ever it stops reading the atty replaced button and worked fine. but not saying that is with all just saying its possible

Not sure how that worked for you, but glad yousr is fixed. The button sits on a 2 contact circuit from looking at the Board lay out.
If pressing the button results in a reading - i.e. Check atomizer - it has closed the circuit. The processor has registered the closure and responded with a screen change.
Fairly uncomplicated switch attachment/function

That's why I asked if the fire indicator flashes red, because if it does it shows that the fire switch does work and can be ruled out.
