fwiw, I have been taking multimeter readings whenever I have to swap out the batteries. I have, interestingly enough, found they start with a reading of about 3.35 (sometimes 3.75) and when they need to be replaced, they exhibit on average a 2.25 - 2.40 reading.

Also, I have found that the battery closest to the adapter is the one to lose most of its charge while the distal battery has only lost a very small amount.

That's good information but does not answer the question about shelf life, i.e. sitting on the shelf waiting to be used for the first time. I read on the Tenergy site that LifoP04 batteries in general have a "service life" of 5-6 years. I'm wondering if that is the same as shelf life.

Yeah, I was mainlly giving an fyi for that.

I did find this review site stating "shelf life of 10 years with minimal natural discharge"

Tenergy Product Reviews and Ratings - RCR123 - Tenergy LiFePO4 RCR123A, Rechargeable Lithium-Ion Battery, 3.0V, 750 mAh from cr123batteries

I have seen a statement about 10 years also for Tenergy non-rechargeable batteries. I tested the 1400 mAh protected version in Prodigy (http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/puresmoker/26766-versions-rcr123a-batteries-4.html#post444599) and the site states: "Ultra long shelf life of 10 years with minimal natural discharge." But there was no similar statement on the rechargeable 750 mAh version.

The problem also is that I don't see any date imprinted on the battery.

I'd suggest that is probably the usable life of the battery from the date of manufacture. They also have a rating for how many charge/discharge cycles. My understanding is that Li-ions start losing capacity from day one, if you use them or not. High temperatures and storing them fully charged accelerates the process. So keep them in a cool place and if not using them for a long time, partially discharge them. The Tenergy's I had arrived some way off fully charged.
