Hi Everyone. I was looking for some feedback from people that have tried the Prodigy V1 at 5 volts as well as 6. Could you describe the difference in performance? Taste, throat hit, vapor, battery life, dripping, atty issues, etc. I am interested in getting the Switch w/o resistor to run it at 6v, and I also needed to find out the specs or model number for the batteries I would have to get. I see that Puresmoker only sells the 3v batteries on their website.

2x 3v = 6v :D

You already have 6v, but with a resistor that takes it down to 5v. If you want 6v all you need is the switch.

If you go to "page 2" on the PS site they have the 3.7 batteries, there are to use with switch with no resister, to vape at 3.7v (like normal ecigs) but with extra long battery life.

I do not have a Prodigy, but have vaped at 5 and 6 volts on other devices. 6v will give you a more analog-like throat hit and very good vapor production. You would expect that because the atomizer will run hotter creating a warmer vapor. 5v will also give a very good throat hit compared to a standard 3.7v battery.

There is some difference of opinion on the taste of e-liquid when run through high voltage vaping (HVV) devices. Flavor suffers at higher voltages, IMO. I am sure most every e-liquid was mixed to produce optimal flavor at 3.7 volts. Flavor is not terrible at higher voltages, but you do lose much of the essence you came to appreciate. nhaler just released a new line of liquids mixed specifically for high voltage vaping. Someone else agrees with me.

Battery life should be longer than a typical screw-in battery. Replacement batteries are cheap and easy to swap out.

Since madog released his famous 901 Magnum 6v flashlight mod video on ECF, many folks have created their own high voltage vaping devices. Many atomizers have died since then. You cannot chain vape a high voltage device like a typical 401 or 801. The atty must be kept moist and it must be allowed to cool down periodically. The higher voltages certainly add stress to the heating coil. My 801 atomizer life on 6v devices are, perhaps, 25% or more shorter than when used on a 3.7v devices.

Once again there is a crucial part of the conversation on this topic left out. That is the atomizer used. I have vaped at 5v and 6v. At 6v with a 901 style atomizer, it is ......ed. It's way too harsh and the liquid burns easily, even when you drip directly and damn near flood the atomizer. At 5v the 901 is better, but it's still overkill in my opinion. The atomizer I prefer at higher voltages is the 801/pen style. Specifically the BE112. It works great at 5v and even better at 6v. Anyone who knows more about this, correct me if I am wrong: It seem that since the 801 style atomizer is larger than the 901 style, this leads to more resistance. It can take higher voltage because of this. Another thing people don't really talk about with voltage is: what the voltage is with fresh batteries. With a 3.7v battery it is common to be at 4.2v when fully charged. With two 3.0v batteries and no resistor you can easily be over 7v fully charged. If the batteries are in good shape and preforming well, they will stay at this higher voltage for a while. Just some thoughts on things never brought up on the debate between different volts. Cheers.

Whats up drum. I originally got the 801 Prodigy, and it produces vapor but the flavor absolutely sucks. I have tried everything, even the high voltage liquid. It has a burnt, metallic, plastic type taste that I cant get rid of. The 901 works, and hits like a champ, but it is a very fine line to balance how much liquid you have to drip to get a good hit. When it does hit good, the vapor, throat hit and flavor are FANTASTIC. But again, I spend a lot of time wiping excess fluid, cleaning connections and blowing out attys. I have a 510 adapter on order, and I am contemplating ordering a switch w/o resistor so I can run it at a full 6 volts. What are your thoughts about 510 at higher voltage? Also back to the 801, do you have any suggestion of things I might be doing wrong? I have tried 2 other 801 attys from puresmoker and have the same results with all of them. Even after break in primer juice is gone, I will blow it dry, put two drips in, primer puff two times, then 4 drops on the atty. I will hit it, and it is a very very slow draw like sucking on a milk shake, and the flavor of all the juices tastes almost like melted plastic.

Due to lower internal resistance of a 510(2.5omhs) @ 6.4v it will run at about 15.4 watts = burnt taste. I have ran a 510 at 7v and it blows bad not to mention the atty burnt out very quickly.

So my prodigy will run right about 5 volts with the 510 correct? Will you think this will still make for burnt vape?

Without knowing the internal resistance and discharge rate of the batts I can guess that it is probably running around 10 watts. I personnaly think the 510 runs best at around 6.5-7 watts. I would personnaly use the 510 @3.7 but that is just my preference.

only thing i can think of, if it's a brand new atty or it has been dried out, it takes a bit to get it pumping again. if i blow out an atty and drain it, i could add 4 or 5 drops, let it soak, take a hit or two, then it may still taste dry. add a couple more, take a couple puffs, tastes bad...drip a couple more. when it's working steady, it will only take a couple drops and give a good flavor, but if it's too dry, it's gonna taste burny and plastic-y until it's flowing nice.
