Anyone else having problems?

Its always been a pain to screw in, but it seems like its getting worse.

I checked out the threads on the inside of the battery tube itself and they look like they're really shallow and dont give the threads on the cap much to grab onto.

Also it seems like the cap is too small for the battery tube. When screwing it on I have to push and wiggle it back and forth to get it to thread itself in all the way.

Its a PITA

One of mine had a small issue when it was brand new but since then it threads perfectly.
* I think it chunked a thread at the very top*
I got my girlfriend one of the very first run Protege's and she has never had a single issue with anything. It's still runnning the original tact switch.

I do use silver conducting grease on both to not only provide some lubricity but also to increase the ground.

They are some tiny threads.. I like the larger / deeper type threads on something that's going to see constant use. These are too easily abused...

I agree on using Noalox or other such conducting grease on the threads. Just don't use much and be sure to wipe off any excess after you've worked it into the grooves in both the end cap and the tube. I applied some recently on my V1.1, and it's made a world of difference.

The key to the Protege (and Prodigy) end caps is taking extreme care with them every time. You can't be in a rush. Because if it goes in crooked and you force it, you can easily cross-thread it. I did that on my Protege V1. So I just take my time and make sure that it's going in happily before I continue. If it seems snagged or slightly off, I just take it out and start again.

I had the same problem with my protege to the point where i had to tape the end cap to use it. Before this happened i recommended the protege to my friend and he ordered one it was rough from the get go on his to and now it takes only one turn till its on all the way and am worried about his getting as bad as mine i feel bad now about recommending puresmoker to him

As with "any" threaded item or component (and especially on fine threaded aluminum pieces), its always recommended to first reverse thread until you feel the light click THEN reverse direction to tighten. This prevents crossthreading.....

Thats what I do. The problem is that the cap is too small. You can almost push it into the tube rather than threading it in.

I agree with you 555. My Protege end cap seems too small for the tube. I use protected batteries and even being patient and backing out to prevent cross threading, it seems like there is only 1 out of the 5 threads that are visible where it catches. Am worried that it won't catch at all eventually. Don't really want to use tape on a $100. PV.

I do the same thing and with the new batteries they are almost 2mm longer so it just adds to the problem. And the Noalox helps alot but it almost sounds like your threads are about stripped out Brandon
with protected battery I unscrew the top cap when I replace the battery. so much easier to put bottom cap back with battery. it puts less tension on the spring. after that screw back top cap.

That won't help those of us who bought a V1.1 for $100.

Don't use protected batteriies that are too long for that model.

The Protege was never designed to use protected batts.

If people want to stuff them in there, fine. But that's not a design or mfg problem.

I have two of the very first V1 Protege's and have never had a crossthread issue with the battery or the adapter. My girlfriend has been using one since they came in and it still has the original tact switch.

A lot (Not all) of the performance issues are directly related to human / user error.

Know this response is late but the threads barely catch with an unprotected battery also.

And thanks ceo for the suggestion.
