Back to the actual XPV and the insane Panasonic 2900 mAh battery: I went through more than half a tank in the R91 today with the battery showing no more than 2 bars, much of it with it just showing 1 bar, and some of it showing 0. The dna's battery gauge on the XPV with this this Panny behaves totally differently than the one in the Vaporshark with its 1200 mAh LiPo. On the Vaporshark, when you're down to just one bar, you'd better be close to a charger, 'cause you really don't have much left. With the Panny in the XPV, there's a whole lot left; to me it seems way more than the 2.4:1 mAh ratio would suggest.

Anyway, the XPV didn't stop firing until 5:00pm. Ever since then, I've been trying to get it to discharge enough to reset the dna. I've got a rubber band pulling a pen against the fire switch, but the "Check Battery" mode (which seems to actually consume some real current, as evidenced by a bit of flicker in the display) that mode times out after ~30 seconds. I certainly haven't kept it in that mode continuously, but I've put it into that mode numerous times, but this crazy battery's voltage has refused to drop low enough to allow the DNA to reset. I'm starting to think taking it apart would have been easier. The cool thing is that by doing this, I've discovered just how awesome that Panny battery is and I've decided that my next XPV will be another 20, with the exact same battery. :D
I too tried killing my battery but gave up. The panny is a beast!

I finally succeeded. I left the pen rubber-banded to the fire switch when I went to bed last night. I believe that once the battery is below the voltage at which the DNA is willing to fire, all this does after "Check Battery" mode times out is keep the display on. When I woke up this morning, the unit was finally "dead". So I plugged it in and let it start charging. About a half hour later, I checked it: It fired and showed me a proper resistance reading again, but the battery gauge was still showing 0 bars. I suspect it's going to take most of the day to get a full charge back into that battery. :D

Being essentially unable to use XPV yesterday evening also convinced me that I need a backup/spare, so I ordered my second XPV last night. It will be an exact duplicate of the first (DNA-20, all black) except for the switch; I'm gonna try the clicky switch.

Well, thanks to Rossum I just pulled the trigger on the 20 with the Panny battery.

It looks as if my MVP's will be going on hiatus.

The MVP's are still fine devices for their price, but the idea of this type of system with a built in charger. I also like the idea of a user replaceable battery.

Even if Protovaper disappears in the several years it takes to kill the battery, it looks as if someone can replace it with ease with the photos that have been posted.

Looks like the ProVari actually has some serious competition. This is actually a better deal than a similarly outfitted ProVari because you don't need the external battery or charger.

I'm stoked, Can't wait until they send me the payment instructions....

Just another testament.

Since buying my XPV I have had to pull a double at work a hand full of times. Excavate during the day, plow snow all night and next morning. I always carry a backup but i have all confidence that the XPV will get me through. And it did it again yesterday.

I began firing a freshly charged battery about 5:30am on 2-14-14 as I began my work day.
After 23hrs of medium to hard driving it wouldn't fire my coil and I received the check battery mode.
Pretty impressive. The entire time I never gave the battery a thought. It only hit me when the coil wouldn't fire.

Like a heavyweight prize fighter.

I desperately need to order another 20 before they possibly disappear.

rounding third and heading home...
"suck my mod"? really? what is your intended audience? 15 year old boys with flashlights to watch under their covers? sorry, but a 15 minute ramble with a couple of minutes of useful information..
i hope other reviews are done so prospective buyers have more to go on than just this....look, everyone is a critic and so am i-how do the buttons work and feel? how do you adjust the wattage? what is the weight compared to other mods? how does it feel in your hands?in your pocket? is it balanced? anyway, you get the idea. i guess i have been spoiled from watching the few who actually know how to do a decent review. andrewWvids, todd, and yes, even the wordy phil do decent reviews. musings on camera with a chance to watch someone vape is not my idea of a review, just an exercise in vanity. hey, at least it was free.....now go ahead and rip me for my opinion but isn't that what a forum is for?

Was this a test or do you really not have a micro-USB charger you can plug into your plow-truck? ;)

I can't speak for Brandon at Evolv, but if I were him, I'd keep the 20 in my line-up, even if it's the new 30 board with firmware that limits it to 20 watts. Why? Because otherwise he'd be limiting the type of mods his product can be safely be used in. You see there aren't any 18350 batteries that are safe to use at 30 watts, and even 18490/18500 batteries are marginal at those power levels.

I operate one of these for dirt and snow.
It does have a 12v outlet and I do have a micro USB

And I have one of these to hold pen, paper, cell phone, iPod etc. but the way it hangs in the cab in relation to the 12v outlet puts the XPV plug in a awkward position so I try not to let it stay on the charge if I don't have to. Just to keep unwanted stress off of the charge port and plug.

It was not a test really. Just a very busy night and me not paying attention to the battery charge or even thinking about it. I did throw it on charge for about 20min and then was able to get another 3hrs or so out of it.

I hope Evolv keeps the 20.

Did you actually watch the whole thing? Cause from the sounds of it you didn't. Vee and I both talk about the feel and buttons.

Besides the little intro music, I vape exactly twice during this review, so where you're getting that it's just a chance to watch someone vape I don't quite understand.

You started judging the minute you saw the name of the show which you didn't like, and at that point you already had your mind made up. I'm new to this and haven't done hundreds of reviews like guys like Todd or Phil have, so to compare me to those guys and expect every review you ever watch from anyone to be that good is kind of silly. I really wish that my first review was already at the caliber of those guys, but that's not realistic.

Lastly, I have no problem with somebody disliking me or something I do, but for someone that sounds like they could be somewhat intelligent, it surprises me how quick to judge you clearly are. I learned my lessons with that in my 20's.
