My local B&M sells the Nemmy clone so that was also the one I had my eye on since i've heard only good things about it but I think for now 0.5 seems more than low enough for how I vape.

Yea, 0.5 is starting to get dangerously low. You really need to know the ins and outs of your vapestyle to be able to safely operate at a resistance that low. By that, I mean know the battery you're using like the back of your hand, be familiar how fast it drains, understand how to check voltage on it, know when to swap it out, and don't accidentally overcharge it. There's a lot more I'm not even touching here.

If I got a mech, it would be one, and only one. It seems most people who buy mechs have anywhere from 3 to 20 just because they look so good together in group photos ;)

I'm also positive that today is the day. Just going to leave my door open all day for the mailman lololol.

As one of those people who have a small army of mechs (again, mostly clones) there IS something very satisfying about their simplicity. Also, I derive some satisfaction from taking a sorta "meh" device and making it really pump out the voltage with a little tinkering.

At first, all that tinkering was frustrating and confusing, but now that I expect to have to do some work to get them to perform optimally, I enjoy that aspect. There's also the added (but not tested) benefit of knowing that, if you absolutely HAD TO, you could bludgeon an attacker with one. ;)

Thanks for the reply. It does answer my question and makes me realize I have no need for a mech. I just checked though and with the DNA 30 you can make coils as low as 0.5 and it will still fire. I think 1.0 was the limit for the 20 version.
Both the DNA-20 and the DNA-30 will fire loads quite a bit lower than their very conservative spec sheets claim.

Mechs also have few to no failure points.
Except for the spring(s) and the high-current switches. It's actually more difficult than one might think to make a switch that will break high-current DC thousands of times. Unlike with AC, when an arc forms as the switch contacts open, there is no zero-cross 120 times per second that tends to extinguish the arc. That arc tends to be hard on switch contacts.

Mechs have other disadvantages: To start with, the only control you have over how much power is going into your atty is the design of the coil itself. That's like driving a car where the gas pedal has two positions: On and Off. Wanna go fast? You need to put in a bigger engine. Wanna go slow? Pull out the big engine and put in a smaller one. And even if you get the coil just right, theres a ~25% difference in power between a fully charged battery and one that's ready to be recharged (remember that power varies with the square of the voltage applied). To me, that's a HUGE difference and plain unacceptable. I went to variable voltage batteries (spinners) on my 4th day of vaping because I didn't like how the vape changed on a regular battery between freshly charged and needing a recharge.

Thanks.
Watched a couple of vids - looks pretty simple to do. Nice design.
Looks to hold 3.5 - 4ml of liquid which is fine.

Question about wicks; most seem to use cotton, would a pre made wicking material be fine as well, something I could just buy a rool of & rewick with ? Longest lasting wick material ?
and .... anyone know where I can get one ? 'out of stock' is mostly the results I'm getting.

Figure I'd get one, get it built & try it on current device prior to the arrival of the XPV which may be a month or more ..

edit ; Bustardo mentioned that the R91 produced a 'cooler' vape ( for him ) I like a warmer, wetter experience .. thoughts ?

Thanks again fellas.

You can coil it to produce a warm vape with a lower resistance coil... anything IMHO above 1.4Ω will give a cooler vape in a kayfun style. .8 will still fire on the XPV and will give a warmer vape... YMMV :p Please be sure to read the threads regarding recoiling safety and such...

There are reasons other than strictly performance to own mechanical mods: Have a look here: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/modder-accessories-supplier-forum/511889-pdibs-making-mods.html Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder...

Yup, those are works of art. I'm on the list for one (a ways out in the 7th batch) but I still have fantasies (delusions?) about finding a way to put a DNA-30 in the base.

Yea... I'm with you (but in the 4th run) The appeal for me was the ability to chose the wood/color that I wanted; not what someone else thought would be nice...

Also as an aside, I have a Provari as well as an XPV and I like them both equally in different ways, using them for different situations... the ProVari at work for the bulletproof reliability and the XPV at the house just cuz it's so damn sexy... woohoo! I'm NOT saying that the XPV isn't reliable... Just that I've just got an investment in both so why not use 'em both?

I love my mechs cause they always seem to work no matter what. I'll admit I'm a careless person, I don't always bother researching things before I do them, it has cost me money and skin on a few occasions but that's how I Learn haha. I have never had a battery vent (knock on wood) and most of my coils clock in around 1 ohm. My favorite mech at this point is my brass nzonic full mag switch no spring. I'm in the process of building a mech out of a flashlight as I ruined my spare mech while trying to torch it (plastic insulators don't like heat who would have thought huh). Thankfully my common sense woke up out of its drunken stupor and I have decided to do some research on diy mechs... More research I do the more I like my xpv. IMHO the biggest pro with a regulated mod is the safety factor.

OK waiting for my XPV DNA30 to ship and noticed this on the protovapor webpage

"We expect to have LG ICR18650HE2 2500Ah 20A batteries available early next week. If you have a mod on order and have not yet received a shipping notification, you can opt for the LG battery. Just send us a message via the Contact Us form, and include your order number in the subject. These will be available for both DNA 20D and DNA 30D versions of the full size XPV." Link

Should I stick with the Sony or try and get the new LG?

I would personally stay with the sonys. I use 2 of them and have been extremely happy with them.

only had time to throw on a PT3 and take a pic. It arrived around 6:15 and I had to get into work at 7:00. I left it at home on the charger to have a full charge tomorrow when I'm ready to start tinkering with it and admiring it's beauty.

Thing is smaller than I thought, and a lot more compact. I love it! Can't wait to try 'er out ;)

Question for those who already have received one:

I noticed that as soon as I set it down on a table, it does not sit absolutely flush. One of the bottom 4 screws is sticking out a little more than the others. I tried tightening them down to make them even, but it still had a tiny 'wobble' to it, so I actually unscrewed 3 of them about a 1/2 turn to have it sit flush. Has anyone else experienced this?

In addition, anyone else replace the screws with black ones? I think they'd make it look much more uniform.

Yup, equal torque on the screws is not the ticket; just position them so the heads are all in one plane and it stands w/o wobling.

I'd actually like to find some adhesive-backed rubber sheet or tape. Way back when, I put some adhesive-backed rubber strips on the bottom of my MVP to overcome the wobble induced by its stupidly designed protruding switch for its USB power output, and I really like the way that feels when set on a desk, but I don't have any more of it.
