I don't think their prices are out-of-line for stuff that's "Made in USA". I think we sometimes get spoiled by the prices of stuff made in huge quantities in the far east.


I don't think that M20 x 1.5 is particularly common, but neither is M7 x 0.5 or M12 x 0.5 (outside of vaping world anyway).

I don't think their prices are nessicarily insanely high, just a bit steep.

I would love to have one of their "sidewinders" or whatever it is called, but that unit in particular I think is a little over priced.


And yea, trading the uncommon 510 threading for the uncommon zen threading doesn't seem like a win to me, if you are going to the trouble of making a new connector, lets get something that is easy to work with.

Even found the instruction pamphlet that came with it, and I quote.

"To adjust the pin, use a medium-blade screwdriver to turn the center portion of the pin (right). (Their is a picture of it here.) Counter-clockwise to extend and clockwise to retract."

The ZNA does look great, and I'd buy one in a New York Second had a built-in charger like the XPV and Vaproshark do. To me, that would be the ultimate power source: DNA powered with easily swappable batteries and a built-in charger. But sadly, Zen doesn't seem to have made any provision for the charger.

That would be truly wonderful, and I'd happily plunk down $$$$$ for something like that! I don't know anyone who makes such a device, however. Is the combo of a removable battery and a built-in charger something that can't be engineered at all, or is it something that is so tough that the price would be outrageous?

On another note, Steam Monkey has their version of the ZNA (basically the same as the standard ZNA but with a brass SM tube) available on their site right now for $279. Have to admit that I put one in my cart. Didn't buy it, but new shiny mods are hard to resist....

There's no technological reason why it can't be done, and I don't see why it would have to be real expensive either. The charger board only costs $7.50; the trick is finding room for it, the DNA board, and the display in whatever device you're making and having a removable battery at the same time.

If you look at the XPV (picture here), the charger board blocks the bottom of the device. If you look at a Vaporshark, (picture here) the display blocks access to the entire bottom of the device, but it might be possible to mod the case with a cap that would allow the battery to be inserted and removed from the top.

I rather like the approach Zen took with the ZNA, putting the DNA board, display, and switches alongside, and outside of the battery tube. My guess is there's simply no room for the charger board in what he's done -- but what he's got is 18490 sized, and I suspect if the 'backpack' were stretched to 18650 size, there just might be enough...?

In the end, the problem seems to be that relatively few of us want both a removable battery and on-board, pass-through charging.

Yeah I to have the flush 510 so I was confused there as well. That's a pretty cool thing to have though. Wish more 510 pins were like that

Well guy`s on the strength of this thread and all the great reviews here I ordered the Blue XPV on the 31st Dec. It arrived today and I must say I am well pleased with it. Can`t talk cos I`m too busy vaping.

Yeh that`s true, in fact I was surprised not to have seen one already in the UK. Great service and comms by Protovaper, they also seem really proud of their products as well. I will be delving into my first use of dual coils with this one and probably going just below 1ohm to start with.

You bet you are and I am probably going to be one of them. First, I would like to thank everyone that has contributed to this thread. I have learned a ton about the XPV reading it. I have learned enough to know that this looks like the new DNA 20 device that i have been looking for. I have a Opus-D and I find that every time I build a new coil that is the device I end up putting it through its paces on. The DNA 20 just gives me so many options to find out what is the best way to vape that particular coil.

For instance, I just got a one of the Origen Drippers by Norbert and I built a simple 1.7 Ohm coil with ribbon kanthal on it. After much experimenting I found out it vapes fantastic at around 12 Watts (much higher than I usually vape at). I now have it at on a Paps X with a Kick in it. Next time I build a coil for it I will build it at around 1.2-1.3 Ohms so I can vape it at 12 Watts without the Kick on a mechanical.

However, why not just get another DNA 20 device so I don't have to worry about building a coil within such precise tolerances and can just tailor the wattage to whatever vapes the best. And that led me here.

Like I said, I learned a lot from reading this thread, but I do have a couple of questions. The main one is: do the newer XPVs have an adjustable pin on the low-profile 510 connectors, or is it only the Ego connector that has this feature? I have a couple of Kayfuns atties (a Lite, Lite + , and the Mini) and I would prefer to be able to get them to work on the VPV w/out making any alterations to the post in their 510 connection. Also, most of my atties are 22mm diameter. So, do they fit nicely on the XPVs without being raised up by the 4 screws on the top of the mod?

These are my main questions regarding the XPV. Everything else about the mod; looks, sturdiness, quality of construction, service and responsiveness of the manufacturer, look great. I want to get my order in before the flood. Once a mod gets exposure by one of the big reviewers like Grimm, Busardo, or Todd they usually sell out very quickly.

I am not positive about the low profile 510 having an adjustable center pin now, but I don't think it does, I believe the ego connector always had that, but the 510 only just isn't made in such a way that it can really be done, as far as I know.

22 mm attys look great on it, and wont be restricted by the screws, and infact you will be hitting the top lip of the 510 connector itself before you would hit those screws.

It is not a true "flush mount" 510, the 510's lip (part with airflow channels) sits above the surface of the mod.

To make it appear flush mount, you would need to put a thin spacer in there.

Protovapor should think about including a thin shim made of the same plastic that the belt clip is made out of, that could fill that tiny gap.

It is a really great mod, and seems to be backed by some good folks!

Thanks for the quick response. I don't care that they are absolutely flush, it is not a Mech mod after all, but your shim idea is a good one. Truth be told, I would prefer to have the airflow channels rather than a absolutely flush fit, so I can use Aspire clearomizers and atomizers like the Penelope that need those channels for airflow.

I asked the same questions in an email to Protovapor, along with if it would be possible to get an XPV with a low profile, adjustable center pin.

I also asked them if it would be possible to get an XPV w/a Sony US18650VTC4 battery (30 amp, 2100mah capacity) instead of the ones listed in the order form. It is a fantastic battery and would really shine with the Evolv DNA 30 chip that it looks like they are going to be offering in the XPV. I hope they reply, it should be very interesting.

Definitely getting one of these, will wait for the DNA30 version and to see what their dual battery 'box style' looks like that they told me they were working on. I LOVE box mods!

I also went for the flush mount 510 connector, although included in the bag was an adapter which screws in, this in turn will accept an ego or 510 threaded atomiser and has an adjustable positive pin.
