This is a good reason to get a provari i would suspect, since it has its 'accuset' technology, but can it handle the LR stuff due to amp limiting etc etc? im still pretty new to VV as all my prior devices have been mechanical mods (mainly GG).

3,5A is not easy to hit. So yes, you can use any stock made LR atty.
I never owned a Vmax, and don't plan to since I don't want to use 2 batteries (not because they are stacked, but because it makes me own twice the amount of batteries and make the device bigger; I use PV Mini), so I won't comment on its performance.
What personally bothers me with it is that people seem to report it "hitting hard" on lowest settings. Oftentimes I do dial the voltage DOWN, be it for setting up the coil and testing something, be it because my throat hurts and whatnot. I don't see how having a low setting hitting hard could be a good thing. If I want low, give me low.
The only limitation I hit with ProVari was self built parallel coil on a genesis atty, that I couldn't get above 4,8V. I don't recall exactly what was it final resistance, but I didn't vape it long either, as that kind of setup kills my small 18350 battery super fast.

I'd say provari just for the fact that it's USA made compared to crappy china electronics in the vmax.

Just my two cents.
The only thing that you can argue is that the amp limit on the vmax is higher, so u can pump more watts into LR equip.

I prefer regular resistance, anyways, so :3

Im all for made in the USA but 95% of what you using for vaping is made in China. From the cartomizers you put in your tank to the 10mil bottles you put your juice in. If a mod is a better value and performs exceptional - its the better mod. It can be made on the moon for all I care.

The only reason I would buy a Provari over a Vmax is the single battery design. I do not like to stack batteries. If the Vmax was a single battery - id buy it in a heartbeat. I'm sure they are working on that as we speak. Smoktech seem to be out in force with all the new things hitting the market. I wonder what the market will look like a year from now. I welcome it though, anything that enhances our vaping experience is a win. It can be from China, USA, Russia, Mars.. it doesnt matter if it works. The buyer has more choices, and thats a win for the buyer.

U cannot go wrong w the provari.. Got to provapes.com and look at their clearance section. U ahould see a "chrome provari v2" for $140. Its says its for a blemished one. Trust me its not blenished, i spent an hour looking for a blemish on mine and couldnt find a scratch. Then i noticed it was missing its logo.. Big deal. $140 cant beat it... Still under warranty and everything

That second review (his V-Max review) is one of the best I've seen. I love how he explains how the voltage setting of the Vmax is deceiving due to the high peaks in the PWM waveform. That alone would steer me towards the Provari. I think the accuracy in real world vape for a set voltage is important.

if a vmax breaks whos going to fix it . at least with a provari you have the option for sending it in for repair . im not typically a fan of vv . i like the simplicity of mechanical mods however I do own a provari and its the first vv mod ive owned that i have been satisfied with . its voltage regulation ,accuracy , and build quality , really make it worth its price tag . maybe by version 15 smok tech will get it right

I agree.
With a $20 Twist, I don't care about extensive warranties or what will happen 6 months from now, but when we're talking hundreds for a PV then that issue becomes important.

I own both and have tried many other VV devices. Others have pointed out the distinctions between the two pretty well. The simple answer from me is that I have the VMAX with me while the Provari is at home on my desk, and that's pretty much the way it is every day. I just like the feel of the VMAX better and it hits harder and lasts longer. The Provari feels more substantial, but so far I have no quality issues with either device.

My only complaint on the VMAX is that its high amperage output and inexact voltage reading make it very easy to burn or completely destroy a cartomizer if you're not careful. The Provari doesn't produce enough amperage for me sometimes, but the flip side is that it'll give an error before frying a carto.

lol I also own both, and do the exact same thing!

The menu systems for both the VMAX and the Provari are almost identical (the vmax being a clone of the provari) but the main difference is that I think pbusardo said that while the vmax uses pulse width modulation, the provari does not. This results in the vmax being slightly inaccurate with the voltages because it sets the voltage for the base of the modulation wave, but peaks significantly higher. The provari has that accu-set technology that basically takes the set voltage and keeps it there. Yes the build quality for the Provari will be obviously better, and if you have the money then it's a no brainer - but for those on a budget the vmax is a solid buy! Just be sure to read everything you can on stacking batteries and the risks involved - it's the only thing that makes me uncomfortable with the VMAX. I label each set i use as 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B etc - so that way i can keep them rotating i.e. - put 1A in first and then 1B for the first cycle, then 1B in first and so on for the next cycle.

Happy Vaping!

I own both. The Provari nice looks and performs well Vmax looks nice but has issues with the output voltage being higher than the voltage you set it to.

The Vmax is sold as a variable voltage Mod but the lowest 3V setting vapes like 4.5V

I live in hope they can fix this problem I really like the Vmax and would like to buy another one.

Bought a vmax, then got a provari. Before I bought the provari (mini) I was wonering what the big deal was since they both performed what they were meant to do. But when that provari hit my hand... vmax started collecting dust. It is just so consistent and that weight on the provari is perfect. I let my friends barrow the vmax when they want to try vaping out :)

As a person who has broken many pv's, I would have to say the Provari is great! I have had it for two months and have to say that I have dropped it a few too many times. Nothing has happened to it and I don't think anything will in the future either. I have heard many great things about the vmax however and the price is very attractive as well. I always say go with what you believe. If you don't like either, go for the other. Hope this helps!
