Puck single battery pack 4AA mod

Thought I'd share this recent build. Inspired by the Puck battery pack, I made it smaller and used less parts.

This is a 4AA version, using a mini switch from RS and a sawn off and filed down 510 battery connector from an old Ego battery.

I'm using a rebuildable smoktek Octopus for my atomizer with a custom four strand 2mm silica wick and Kanthal A1 32 gauge wire at 2 ohms.

Everything fit nicely after some Dremel action and a little standard epoxy to hold the battery connector.

She smokes nicely. Gonna try 3 ohms next to see how she performs.

Since this is my first post, all the newbies get to see it first. I wanted to post in the Puck thread, but was not allowed.

NOTICE: I've modded it further so that the switch is now in the main box and not attached to the lid.

Right behind you
As a recent Puck mod owner myself- bravo, she's beautiful! That's going to be the Other Half's next endeavor- a single-box Puck. Mine right now is a 4 AAA 2-boxer, and I love it :). Post it in the mod section when you are able- you really did a great job! Wait until you get a 3.0 ohm in there- made a WORLD of difference in mine.

I'm now at 2.8 ohms and the taste is noticeably better. Next time I wrap my own wick, I'll go one extra turn and see how that works.

I'm glad I was able to squeeze it all into one box. I can't imagine having two boxes back to back, or even a charger attached as suggested in the Puck II build.

I'd love to find a simple battery attachment that was 510 compatible. I've seen where folks used cable tv connectors and RCA jacks.

Will have to root around in my junk boxes, as I've got all that stuff . . . . . . somewhere!

I want one because most drug stores don't carry APV batteries! Rechargeable "AA" or "AAA" are found literally everywhere.
That's exactly why I made some of these mods. In hurricane zone here and some times without power for a week can be terrible on vapers. I can stock up on 'local' batteries and use these mods quite nicely when I don't want to use the charger in the car :D

Not sure why I would want one, this is a lot easier to lugg around. (and is an easier build)

Kudos for a slick build. Very minimalist.

I do like the AA batteries though. High volts, long life and safer. While I've never had a Lithium battery issue, I know they exist. I like being able to pop in four freshly charged AA's at anytime too.

Thanks for sharing.

Hurricane zone here too and I am seriously thinking about getting a friend to make me a few of the pUcks. I have never used a soldering iron before so that part is a little scary to me.

It's not that hard to solder, just takes a couple practice welds and you'd do just fine :) promise. I made mine inside a Altoids tin and a Fishermans Friend cough drop tins. I only used a 3 battery box for my AA batteries. I get the 2400mah Ni-Mh Duracells to use and it vapes like a 3.7v device. I don't vape much higher then 3.7v anyway so that suits me just fine. I get almost 22 hours of fully charged vape on those. Which is great when there's no power
So, I used Pucks instructions but made my own version for what was right for me is what I did

if you build them- you can fix em.

You can fix 'em and mod 'em even more.

I just moved the switch to the main box. Took some more dremel tool work, but it is now a unified solution!

Having the switch on the lid of the box wasn't optimum, and I already had to resolder wires due to the stresses on the wires when I took the lid off to replace batteries.

Nice job. Yea, it's hard to get the switch into the small area above the batteries but it can be done. I use a really small push button switch that Radio shack sells but it is still hard to get in there.

Sure it is easier and smaller, but it is using Lithium ion batteries. The whole purpose of the basic Puck is to use readily available batteries you can get in any store. It's not a Puck if it's using lithium ion. It's a Nicostick at that point.

Pucks are going to be bigger do to the fact of using NiMHs but that's what this world is all about,... choice :)
