Yeah, I found that stuff before. It's awesome your willing to experiment with it for us and yourself! Thanks and I can't wait to see the pics!
Not sure if it was mentioned in this thread or not but I've been researching a high temp (2600 f)ceramic cement by Sauereisin(initially number 10 because the company that I'm having produce small ceramic parts carries it retail). Sauereisin has many cements to choose from. After researching-#78- is what I'm going to use to encapsulate resistance wire within a 1.8mm diameter thin walled alumina ceramic tube. The cement has great thermal conductivity and electrical resistance (to match the tubing) and after curing is suppose to be hazard free. Particulate matter is minimal and the pellet sized heater will be housed inside wicking material - negating concern. There are also cements which insulate thermally and I may use them to protect nr connections. I will post pix of my inner coil design asap but I'm weeks away from recieving my shipment -given the holidays.

Here's a link to the cements and I think they will help with the designs I've seen here.

I just doubled back and saw that it was your link. I had already found the #10 somewhere else(same manufacturer)retail and they couldn't recommend it as food safe because of irritation. I researched a bit further and the irritation is due mostly in part to handling of the raw powder. Once cured its supposed to be a solid. The silica particulate is minimal to none. Definitely no more than the particulate from hand cut FQ (dont quote me but I think its made of silica) without annealing and certainly less than fiber wicking. Thanks again Scott.

getting ready to put together a pyrex coil someone sent me.
scott,Ive been using yours, and I guess we .well,I,was mmissing relative size due to using a magnifying glass, and thenlooking at others..D has cappilary tubing SOOO small scott,it will FIT inside the pyrex you sent me..My big pyrex(you sent me) coil that I re worked yesterday I am going to try again with,it should work well,Right now,I am going to hook up BIG's pyrex coil and see how it goes..

OH and another thing on the red gasket silicone, today it seemed cured but very malleable,I could probably wipe it right off the glass tube, not sure if it will be an issue or not,but I shall see in the next day or so when I fire up that coil.

OK here are my results with using the VERY SMALL pyrex coil...IT works great...great flavor, instant start-up..I like it very much...
AND the best part...I DIDNT HAVE TO COOK MY SS MESH,WRAP AND GO!!!...I will have to tweak it a bit as the pyrex tube comes up a bit too high and the nr wire out the top hits the lid..BUT WE HAVE A WINNER!!!!!...

eventually,I think this will make a very nice STICKY.....2 THUMBS UP

And that was vaping this 1.6-1.7 ohm coil at 3 volts...

I believe with FQ,there should be NO issues with breakage...

The bigger pyrex tube I got from scott I am going to use with a dual coil inside configuration to see if I can get the heat up..

You know before this thread started and I heard about this helping out those gennie users like me,who cant seem to get it RIGHT,I was askibng myself why am I still coming back to this forum..well,I know why, recently a friend on here who I barely new and had bought and sold with just a few times sent me his mini provari to use until I could get a replacement for my vmax I blew up.He sent it without asking for money or anything,I must say I heald my breath when pm'ing him,and he was the ONLY person I had a scant relationship on the forums with whom I did PM..And he let me use it until I got my new zmax in,about 2 weeks..
I am very greatful to him, more than he will ever know..

And you guys in here,BIG D,TB inAZ,scottin boca, and dsy,you guys make this fun..I didnt realize modding could be so much fun,and the info shared, and packages sent.My hats off to you guys, and my thanks as well..

NOw back to modding...:toast:

I noticed that too; in fact, a little rub and it slid right off. BTW, I'm pretty much joining the Kanthal and NR wire the way you have suggested - only I am leaving only a small length of twisted at the top of the wick. I tried sealing a tube with the joint out of the tube - still got an increase in resistance, so I haven't figured out what is going on here, yet.

I just made a testing wick with only Kanthal, no NR - I've sealed the end and I'm going to measure it after cure-heating the mortar. If the resistance increases this time, I'm going to visit my shrink...

update on coil...I may not of used enough waps of mesh, thought I got 3 on it.decent vape, but somewhat dry and a bit flavorless, but better to me than just using ss mesh..I will tweak it tomorrow and see if I can work the bugs out which I am sure are operator error..

Oh and I was looking up sealing pyrex tube to vacuum, and basically it's a no,no,unless you have proper annealing equipment.etc..etc..BUt also,I think it would cause issues with heat..and another thing I learned, about the only thing you can get to "BOND" with pyrex to make a vacuum seal is tungsten, and even then it is tricky..

Just throwing this info out there. I got enamel cover kanthal today and it appears to heat up just fine without the enamel coating out-gassing or burning. To take the enamel off, I just took a little knife and scratched it off to secure the wire to each terminal. I have yet to try it setup on a wick yet to see how it works all setup to vape. My first attempt will be using unoxidized ss mesh. BTW, there is no way to see the coil glow, so no need to dry fire the coil.

Would dipping a kanthal coil in glass, to make a glass coated wick work????

NOt sure, what was that stuff they were rolling coils in on the other thread?? I think thats what poodles last post was saying something about?? or was that just to seal,I will have to re read..

Ok, my sanity is back... Checked the Kanthal without NR - no resistance change. I think I put my finger on it, though. I have been twisting the glass as I feed in my coils, I believe in doing so I have been untwisting my joints. So I have stretched the coils out a bit more and just pull them straight in now.

The small FQ is great for strength and heat resisting, but tough on getting the coil in. I think it is worth it, though. The smaller tube makes for a fit in about any atty without having to bore a huge hole. Plus as K3vin has said, cleans up really good. I carefully made a new wick, in which I hopefully have eliminated any loose joints.
