Pyrex Tube/Inner Coil/SS Mesh Genesis Mod

Great news AZ... You lurker you.. Hehee... I am going to wrap mine 3 times but I am also going to add in some cotton "flats" same as cotton ball but flat and round , I'm just not sure if I am going to just put in a few wick- like pieces while wrapping the mesh, or do a wall of it totally against the mesh, but not against the Pyrex tube.. Pics coming shortly.

Hopefully the glass won't crack. Should be fine with the larger hole AGA. If it does, it doesn't shatter or anything. So just vape and forget about it.

How much wick are you using?

I just cmae into my "LAB" to re wrap mine,and it had broke right where the coil was next to the glass..I believe D,when you get the FQ,you will have this down in no time,not that you dont have it down now....IT wont break due to heat stress as easy I dont think.....

Well that sucks. You can see the distortion where the glass is bent a little too.

Like I said, I cracked the last two I did, but still have one that keeps chugging along. How much voltage did you throw at that one?

no more than 3.2..Im going to see about making up another one that small,I do have one bigger pyrex from scott,but it barely fits in me DID without mesh,so I am going to try and use that one on the carto experiment..And I do think I have another piece of FQ laying around here also.

I really believe FQ is going to be the way to go..

I just pulled it apart to get an exact measurement because I eyeballed it first go. I'm running a tube of 400 15mm x 30mm, not flamed at all. I just now now put it together a bit differently running the neg lead around the tube inside of the mesh to the top. It still fires... Going to play around a bit and then I will post some picks.

GEEZE TB..The smallest FQ you sent me,the one in pic above right next to D's pyrex is freaking tiny..I rooled my coil on a STIC PIN,and it still wont go in..lol..It will fit in D's pipettes,BARELY,but yours nope..have to find something smaller to wrap it over..

I had to wrap a kanthal coil around kanthal<just so I could get in the small fq..

That 1mm has to be a bugger to get a proper coil inside. Could probably pull it off with 34 or 36, but then there is concern to longevity of the coil with the smaller gauges.

Dang dude, what gauge wire are you using? 32? Try going down to 34. That has worked the best for me as for fit. Now getting the coil to fire the way I want, at the ohms I want? not yet. Yep, it's some small stuff. LOL

LOL yea,using 32 ga..I got it in there by wrapping it around another piece of kanthal..The hard part is goi9ng to be splicing in the NR..I should have it here in another 30 min or so..

Here are a few pics of how I have the Big Screen D element set up on my modded AGA. Ran the neg lead up inside the mesh lightly coiled around the element. I used 15mm x 30mm 400 mesh. I think I may try to oxidize it just a bit to hold the tube shape better up top. It's ohm'ing out to 1.56 and running it currently at 3.3v. Nice amount of vapor. Flavor is right there.

EDIT: Ok, I just switched to ZMax at 8 watts and the vapor production is quite a bit better. I may push this thing more. Wish me luck LOL.

EDITx2: Hey BSD, this little puppy is living at 9 watts on my ZMax. heehee. Love it. The vapor only gets better.

OK,what seems like 2 hours later,I finally got my coil into the small FQ..32ga..and connections inside,dont know how I did it,but it is done..NOw to let the mortar set for about an hour,then I will cure it,and awayyyy we go...need some sort of "GLUE" to connect the NR wire to the resistant wire..ok,off to eat dinner back in an hour or so.

Was thinking to myself "why would TB want to run the negative up inside the mesh"? Could it be to create a juice pathway? I can definitely see how harnessing the volcano action to keep the wick more evenly wet may be just the ticket.

I wasn't even thinking that way, but that works too. I just wanted to be able to pull out the assembly without disassembling the tank and then reassembling. LOL

Take the smallest sewing needle you can find, wrap the coils around it and make it so that they touch. Before you put it into the tube, stretch the coil until it is about 8-10 mm long - they will then fit in the tube.

Picture is blurry, but you can see the coil - this was just a mock up when testing the kanthal-only in a short broken piece of tube.

I have been testing a tank with the FQ wick for most of the day; I was down to about 1/2 ml of juice left when it began to taste a little funky. I was going to inspect the tube anyway when I was done with it so I pulled it out.



As you can see there is juice in the tube; juice in tube = funky taste and little vapor. I think what happened is as the tank got lower the cooling effect of the juice was not there and the wax melted some. Now I don't know if the juice came all from bottom or from the top or both. Probably time to seal the bottom with fp mortar and try again. But that may prevent the tubes from being reused and I have only the 1 left. Then again, the coil is going to stretch, so the plug may pull out OK.

Notice also how brown the coil got from burnt juice.
