Hello fellow DIY-ers,

I was reading up on ultrasonic cleaners here on the ECF blogs, and the one that was recommended the most was over $80 and was heated with a full control timer (could be set for almost any time)

Unfortunately, while I could invest the $80 in the highly recommended model, I wanted to know if it was at all worth it to just go with a cheaper model until I can comfortably afford the $80 one? Would it do the same thing just with a little more babysitting? I'm new to DIY and I'm also impatient :D

The ones I were looking at were on Amazon and run around $20 - $40

Here is an example of the one I was looking at:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007Q2M17K?psc=1

Any advice, or other suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I have an Amazon Prime account, so anything with Prime shipping would be preferred, but not 100% necessary.

Thank you all in advance!

Amazon.com - Magnasonic Professional Ultrasonic Polishing Jewelry Cleaner with Digital Timer for Cleaning Eyeglasses, Watches, Rings, Necklaces, Coins, Razors, Dentures, Combs, Tools, Parts, Instruments (MGUC500) - Electronics Cleaning Products

Any advice, or other suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I have an Amazon Prime account, so anything with Prime shipping would be preferred, but not 100% necessary.

Any decently priced mid range model will work just fine. You just need to decide how much convenience you want in a UC. For me I want no less then a 30 minute timer because my time is worth the extra cost.

There are alternitive cheaper methods that work just as well as a UC such as a crockpot. In fact this is the method I switched to since I started extracting NET's so my $80 UC now sits doing nothing.

A decent crockpot can be had for about $20.00

Thank you so much for the reply! I plan on using this mostly during the weekend, and those are my lazy days so besides changing the TV channel, I really don't do much (cleaning, light cooking stuff like that). I suggested using my girlfriends crock pot, but that was shot down real quick ;) I'll give the one I posted a shot, worst case, I wear glasses all the time, so I can always use it for those if it doesn't handle liquid well.

Thanks again!

@dannyv45 it also should be heated correct I see a lot of the lower priced ones do not mention heat

Not nessessarly, The UC action will bring the water up to temperature after a 30 minute cycle. The heater will maintain a constant 150F (At least mine does) if used and reduces temperature fluctuations. So it's not nessessary just another option to consider.

Yea I know the feeling. I tried to talk my wife into giving me her's which she never uses and she shot me down. So I went out and bought my own. So now I have this nice new shinny crock pot and she has her old crappy one. If she were smarter she would have given me her's and went out and bought a new one and I wouldn't have a leg to stand on when I complain about her buying something she will never use.:)

HA! So my girlfriend doesn't vape, but she is interested in how the industry and products evolve, and I mentioned that you lovely individuals were helping me with questions regarding an Ultrasonic Cleaner for steeping. She said... "that would be cool, I can clean my jewelry in it too you should get one!"

I must have hit my head on the coffee table when she said that, but when I picked myself up, I added this one to my cart and it should be here Saturday!

It's the same one I have. It will do the job nicely. And tell your girl friend adding expensive jewelry to the UC while steeping does not give the mix a richer taste:)
