The term Good Samaritan came from a parble in the Gospel of Luke (10:29-37).
A Good Samaritan is a person who helps another (out of love) when needed regardless of the persons faith, color, citizenship, cleanliness, financial status, etc.
Jesus pointed out in scripture that the men (hypocrites) who should have helped (a Jewish priest and a Levite temple assistant) ignored a wounded robbery victim by passing him by. But a Samaritan (Samaritans and Jews were known to generally despise each other) stopped and cared for him out of pity and love from his heart for another being. The Samaritan also took money out of his own pocket to pay for the Jewish victims room and board time needed to recover
so he actually went above and beyond with his aid.
In a nutshell: Love, help and nurture others while hating the sin or problem
just like Joseph, Daniel, David and others did.
The reason it was remembered for almost 2000 yrs is b/c it was a parable in the Bible.
