I have been reading a lot about the 510 attys recently (thinking about buying a 510) and really can't decide what to think. apparently there are either 2 or 3 different attys being sold (classic, "new", and gold-band) and everyone seems to disagree on how good they are (besides the classic).

I don't care about if they're counterfeit/branded incorrectly or anything, just about which one is better...

As far as I know, there's only two 510 atomizers around, as far as technical specifications go. There's tons of styles, but only two models.

There's the typical 510 model that pretty much everyone sells. Then there's the "new" model that some suppliers (I know innovapor.com is one, not sure of any others that are confirmed) have gotten. The new one so far hasn't been confirmed as an actual Joye product; it may be a knockoff. So far I believe they work, however.

As far as performance goes, the claim made for the "new" (and possibly knockoff) atomizer will last around three times as long; I don't believe there's any conclusive evidence for or against this yet, however (since the way an atomizer is treated is certainly different from person to person). However, there's nothing wrong with the classic one, at least that I can tell.

A much more detailed analysis can be found here.

As far as styles go, the main styles available in the US are as follows:
  • Typical black (most/all suppliers)
  • White (many suppliers)
  • Gold-band black (innovapor.com)
  • The dietsmokes.com exclusive models (Black/white band, black/red band)
  • "Titanium" or steel finish (some suppliers)

There other assorted colors (blue, purple, pink that I can recall), but they are predominantly carried only by Chinese suppliers right now.

On a personal note, I highly recommend dietsmokes.com if you plan on ordering a 510. A+ service, neat styles, good prices. They also have good accessory choices, and from what I hear very good liquids (I'm trying some myself very soon, they're on the way!).
