Hi. New to all this. Just wondering something about nicotine strength.

When a site advertizes something at 24mg, is that 2.4% nicotine or 24% nicotine? I've seen 2 different sites advertizing two different answers. ejuice Me Up app says it's 24%. And I've seen other sites say 2.4%. So, I'm confused on that. Most of the stuff you see at convenience stores says 1.2% or somewhere in that range. Would that be 12mg or 1.2 mg?

Sorry if the answer is in front of my face. This place has so many sections it's overwhelming.

to ecf Tortus. Nice to meet you and so glad that you are here. Just a wonderful place to be as far as I am concerned. I can remember when I first joined how overwhelming it all can be. But just remember, you can always ask if you do not understand something. That is what ecf is all about. Learning and helping others. I know, I was new once and needed lots of help.

Good luck to you and happy vaping.

Ok. I guess the eJuice Me Up program is wrong. The program is recommended on a few sites for making your own juice. For what I'm making, it's telling me 10mg nicotine strength is 10% of the final product. Or maybe I'm reading it wrong?

I hope this program is legit. Don't wanna kill myself with a nicotine overdose. lol. Maybe there's a FAQ about EJMU somewhere on here.

Indeed you are reading it wrong, actually. What that 10% means is that, of the final product, 10% of it will need to be made up of the concentrated nicotine base solution to achieve the desired 10mg strength (and the other 90%, then, will be made up of PG, VG, distilled water, alcohol, and/or flavorings.) It "looks like" a percentage only because you specified a nice round 100mg/ml nic base; if you had said you'd be working with 60mg nic base instead, for example, then it would tell you that you need 16.67% of it in the final solution to achieve that same 10mg target strength.

Sorry if the answer is in front of my face. This place has so many sections it's overwhelming.

Just so you understand where all these Percentages come from.

Pure Nicotine is 1001mg/ml (One Thousand and One Milligrams of Nicotine in One Milliliter of Volume). But to make the Math simpler, people have rounded this to 1000mg/ml. Note that the Units of the Volume are Milliliters.

The Amount of Nicotine can Also be Expressed using a "Unit-Less" notation. Which is what a Percentage is.

The Percentage of Nicotine in ANY Volume is the Total Nicotine present divided by the Total Possible Nicotine that can be Present for the Given Volume.

In our case of Milliliters, that would be: Total Nicotine divided by 1000.

So for someone looking at a Bottle that say it is 24mg, what they saying is that there is 24mg per 1ml of Volume. They (we all) should write it as 24mg/ml. But Mankind is Inherently Lazy. So most just call it 24mg

To find the Percentage of Nicotine we simply divide 24 (Total Nicotine in One Unit) by 1000 (Total Possible Nicotine for the Same Unit).

24/1000 = .0240

Now we multiply by 100 to Convert a decimal value to a Percentage.

.0240 x 100 = 2.4%

---

Working in Reverse. If you want to convert a Percentage to a mg/ml, Simple divide the Percentage by 100 (converting it to a Decimal) and then multiply the result by 1000 (the Total Possible amount of Nicotine in One ml.

1.2%
=> 1.2 / 100 = .0120
=> .0120 x 1000 = 12
=> 12mg/ml

Notice that we are Dividing by 100 and then Multiplying by 1000. That is Mathematically the Same is just Multiplying by 10 in one single step.

So a "Short Cut" would be to just Multiply a Nicotine Percentage for an e-Liquid by 10 calculate the e-Liquids mg/ml.

3.6%
=> 3.6 x 10 = 36.
=> 36mg/ml

Thanks, I see now. When I put 1000mg nicotine (the pure strength) into the program, it gave me the 2.4% rather than 24% for the final product at 24mg/ml strength.

I think I'm ready to try making some. That was the main thing I was unsure of.

The Highest level of Nicotine that 99 out of 100 people doing DIY is 100mg/ml

It might be a Good Idea to post your Recipe for a Quick Double check here.

I will...trying to decide what flavor to start with as I wait for my new tank to arrive. I got 14 PG based flavors from LorAnn, 100mg nicotine from myfreedomsmokes, and the PG and VG. I hear the Aspire Atlantis can handle high VG blends so I'll probably go in that direction.

Ok, I found this Bombie's 'Nana Cream clone recipe on reddit. Figure I'll try that one first.

Does it look like I put everything in the eJuice calculator correctly? My nicotine juice is 30/70 100mg, I'm going for 12mg strength and 15ml total product.

Your Recipe look's about Right.

My only suggestion with a Recipe like this would be to add a couple of Drops of e-Liquid Sweetener to it. But that is just Me.

Good idea. I have a bottle of that. Just ordered the Dragonfruit flavoring since that's all I don't have. I'm surprised more people don't go this route instead of paying $10 for 15ml. Looks like there's clone recipes out there for most of the popular flavors.

I think what Many New DIY-ers for get is that these Flavors we use were Deigned to be used in Foods. And some Recipes can for a Lot of Sugar. Some a Little. And some Not Sugar at all.

If a Flavoring was Very Sweet to start with, it might work well for a Recipe that called for a Lot of Sugar. But not for one that called for None. So Many Flavoring are just that. Flavor, with no Added Sweetness.

People don't DIY for a Variety of Reasons. Many say they Don't have the Time. Or are Just Too Lazy to do it. Others are Afraid of Screwing it Up.

Hi, I was thinking of DIY as well and though I would ask some related questions.

1. Is there a recommended sweetener type? I assume there may be more than one kind of sweetener, with different flavor profiles. Which is best to start with?

2. I'm a little scared to order 100mg/ml nicotine, as touching it could be bad. I'm generally pretty ok with this sort of thing, but occasionally I could be clumsy. Would starting at a lower does be helpful, such as 24mg/ml or 36mg/ml -- any suggestions?

3. Is there a preferred brand of nicotine/pg/vg manufacturers? I read somewhere that each manufacture has a different flavor profile.

4. What's the best DIY flavor database? I found a couple, but many of the recipes don't have reviews etc.

1 - The two Most Common sweeteners that people use are Cotton Candy Flavoring (Ethyl Maltol) or Pure Sucralose in a PG Solution.

Ethyl Maltol (EM) is Relatively Sweet. Whereas Pure Sucralose in PG is Very Sweet. EM Requires the Mixture to be "Steeped" before using. Pure Sucralose in PG does not. Just Add Shake and Vape.

NOTE: Sucralose Based Sweeteners such as Splenda should NEVER be used in DIY. Because they contain Bulking and De-Clumping Agents. If you are going to use Sucralose as a DIY Sweetener, I would Recommend that you Only buy it from somewhere that sells e-Liquid DIY Supplies.

2 - 100mg should be Handled with Caution. Rubber Gloves and some form of Eye Protection is Highly Recommended. I would Also Recommend that all Mixing be done inside/over some type of Tray. Like a Cookie Sheet or a Large Metal Oven Pan.

Many People who are New to DIY are more Comfortable purchasing a Lower mg Nicotine Base. Like 36mg.

3 - Everyone has their Favorite. Hard to Answer this.

4 - I don't put much Faith in Recipe Reviews. Because Taste is So Subjective. And I know that there are Very Few recipes that I will not End Up Tweaking by adding a Little More of this or a Little Less of that.

I use Posted Recipes to more give me an Idea of Trying some combination with the Flavorings that I already have. Or of a Flavoring that I might not have, but would work in Many Types of Similar Recipe.
