So i heard a bad news from a dear friend today who also happens to be a gg lover. His house was burnt down early this morning, everyone's okay but everything's gone. He sent me a pic of his mods and I'm thinking of offering to polish them all for him but wondering if it's even possible. =( Any idea how this can be done? Or what do I need? I have access to a table top polisher (whatever that is called). Appreciate any tips from the OCDs out there =) Otherwise I'll probably have to share a piece from my gg collection with him.

I am not a polishing expert but since the plastic windows on the Ithakas looks intact I speculate the damage is not thermal and only from soot and water. Simply take 'em apart and polish by hand with a polishing compound. I personally just use the stuff meant for chrome from the hardware store and get great results (I can hear some of you gasping now *g*)... but then I am not OCD :)

Buffing wheels & some rouge sticks. I've brought many SS and aluminum Harley parts back. Use soft wheels & the finest grade polish (less abrasive) polish that will work. Also keep the part moving so you don't "burn" it. Slower rpm better than super fast. I'll bet everything except o-rings & plastic are still good.

I would recommend that they first be taken down to individual pieces. Once apart clean off all loose matter with tap water and soap. Follow with hand polish with a metal polish. Once you see what they look like you can properly assess further treatment. It could be a simple Brasso rub down or a polish with the buffing wheel. Keep your progress posted for more help.
