Question about the infamous stingray button!

I have the infinite stingray clone and i hate the button. Its so hit and miss and ive cleaned the housing sanded it pretty much did it all and still its not impressive in the least. Heres my question. Has anyone or does anyone know how id go about just taking out the whole inside the switch and replacing it with another magnet or even spring set up? Thanks for any info id like to use this mod tired of looking at a 50 dollar paperweight. ;p

1. Flip the battery around so that the positive end is facing down.

2. Shorten the throw. The longer the switch travels, the crunchier it will be.

3. Give it some time to break in. It took a few weeks before my switch became nice.

And they are VERY good compared to what comes stock on the clones. A must have IMO

Afaik the buttons are all the same, with the possible exception of the Stingray X

I've seen this mentioned elsewhere; it's not something I'd recommend unless you were keeping a VERY close eye on the shrink wrap on the battery. If the battery wrap is compromised and makes contact with the inner surface of the mech, you're initiating a dead short when you hit the button.

I know some people have ground down the inside corner of the top of the switch and rounded it off a bit. This is said to keep it from digging into the tube. I haven't tried this yet, as my switch isn't so bad as long as I don't tighten the switch too much.

I agree. Using a battery reversed like that, with a damaged wrapper ( which is really easy to damage ) is just asking for one more thing that can go wrong.

Any mod that is intended to work with the battery positioned in this fashion is a poor design, IMHO.

Thankfully mine fires right side up once I took apart the switch and adjusted it. Either way, there wasn't any noticeable wear on the shrink wrap.

I took a dremel and rounded off all edges with a bit of a chamfer. Not butter smooth, but much, much better than stock.

I have what's (supposedly) a Infinite copper Stingray LE. The button was kind of terrible, hanging up on the battery tube as you pressed it. So I took some sand paper and sanded down the rough edges of the tube. Now it fires every time, but there's absolutely no throw to it. Like less than 1mm. Looking at it wrong makes it fire. Can't seem to figure out how to fix this. Maybe I'm just slow, but it seems like a dangerous design that will fire if the lock ring is even a turn and a half from tight.

I put a nemesis switch on mine. Works perfect! I hate the nemi top caps and the stingray buttons.....
I did work on my stingray buttons though. You can clean the parts real good and put a little Vaseline in there. Works like a champ.

I picked up the fat daddy Stingray Ultimate Upgrade and it works great. Throw is a little long then I like but it is a solid upgrade!

Sort of a miss-understanding. Omission of Data needed to come to the conclusion.
Some Mods have no Delron/Nylon insulator on the switch. Battery rest on metal that is directly part of the current path. The only barrier is the Wrapper. If damaged that can cause direct firing - Hard Short.

Flipping the battery is logical and should work in almost all mechanical Mods. Regulated mods cannot handle reversed polarity.

Stingray switch - this is an ISOLATED switch. The battery rest directly on the upper Firing contact surface but is isolated from the lower section until depressed.
The problem I see with many Stingray switches is the Cupped contact. The battery sits with the Wrap on the Contact.
Simple solution, flip battery.
Second solution - add a thin magnet to the battery bottom.
Third solution - Dedicated Battery with wrap trimmed back.
Forth solution - Panasonic CGR batteries (no wrap on bottom)

It is all about contact - Solve this with proper precautions and the mod will work fine.

Thanks so much for all the replies everyone! I will probably go ahead and try sanding the edges more and taking up some tips mentioned here. Except for the battery suggestions. Im sure it works fine but id just rather be on the safe side anyway if all else fails i will get the upgrade from fattdaddyvapes. Just didnt want to throw more money at it and still have the same issue. Even when i do fix it it still probably wont be used a quater of how much i use my bay city vapor XXIX and surfrider though. as an add on because im just soooo stoked on this got a 24k gold plume veil today and on my XXIX with a dynasty tip... Jesus its vape perfection

Yeah, that cupped contact can be a problem depending on how your battery is wrapped.

this bites, I wanted to get an all black setup. Black copper Stingray with black Patriot or TOBH. Might just go with the Copper Nemesis I've been looking at for a while now.

The button on the stingray is large and sometimes the wrap on the battery has a hole that is smaller and the button does not touch the battery. I spent an hour with a multimeter to find this out. The fix I cam up with was to enlarge the hole with an exacto knife and be VERY careful not to cut yourself and only cut away what is required on the bottom of the battery. And be careful of the wrap on the side.
