Hello! I've been vaping for about 5 months but I'm new to these forums. I think Ecigs have probably saved my life and I really want to share it with my friends that still smoke. My best friend has migraines from time to time, not just headaches, but sit in a dark room with no light or sound, all day in pain migraines. She has smoked for many years and I don't think nicotine or cigarettes were triggers for her. She quit smoking about a month ago and her sister ordered her an ecig kit. She was eager to start vaping so before it arrived she bought a diposable to try out and got terrible migraines after the first few days, so she stopped vaping. I am not a fan of disposables, I use egos and mods, but her experience made her very apprehensive about vaping. She is having a tough time quitting cold turkey. Does anybody with knowledge of migraines know if PG or VG can trigger a migraine? Maybee there are other chemicals in the disposable she got I think it was a "blu." I really want her to try vaping again but I don't want to send her back to migraine hell. I did a bit of research and some people that suffer from migraines get them just initially when they stop smoking, maybe this is the case. If anyone has any experience or knowledge about this I would really appreciate your help. Thanks!

Tell her to order Swedish snus. If I were her I wouldn't vape anything either if it gave me a migraine. They are holy hell. Read the Alternatives to smoking Forum here on ecf and the links are important if you remember hearing all bad things about it. But have her order the plainest non flavored tobacco snus she can. No flavors. Just tobacco snus. There is an American seller online gets it from Sweden and ships it to you. It's probably the better choice for just one can which should last a week. But be sure its only just tobacco no flavoring and find out what else the use in it to make it moist. I forget what it is. New learning thing but it's a very quick study. Was she migraine free while going cold turkey? Are you positive the vaping triggered the migraine? As far as your other questions hopefully someone who knows more can help

Yes she has been migraine free for a few weeks after she stopped vaping but she has smoked a bit. Also I'm not sure it was the vaping that triggered it, but it's really the only new thing introduced to her for those few days. I'll look into Swedish snus, but I'm not sure she would be into trying it. I will definatly pass it on to her in case I'm wrong though. thanks for the help and info.

If she has other "sensitivities" that she is aware of that trigger her migraines, she probably has either some knowledge or personal experience on what to avoid.

Of the few things that is actually in the e-liquid, namely PG (propylene glycol), VG (vegetable glycerin), nicotine, and flavoring agents, it would be PG that most people seem to have issues with. There might also be issues with artificial flavoring agents.

If she decides to try vaping again, I'd recommend an all VG, all organic, all natural juice. I happen to have gravitated to three e-juice vendors that use those three items and I'll provide them in links:

Organically Flavored E-liquid | Virgin Vapor | Electronic Cigarette Organic e-Liquid | Electronic Cigarettes

Natural & Organic E-liquids - Home page Dripeez

Vaperite | Organic and Natural Flavored Electronic Cigarette E Juice

I know the Blu carts will bring on a headache/Migraine almost instantly. I don't know what was in them, but it was bad.
Have her try less flavored/color e-juice. The less the flavor the less reaction. Tanks are best because it could also be the filler in the carts.
Also try to use organic VG flavor, that should help.

I dont get migraines but i have PG allergy and it causes the most kick ... headaches and light sensitivity with me...When I tried all VG no more headaches so I would get your friend to try 100% VG juices (mainly 95% in most cases but speaking for myself I can tolerate a tiny bit of PG)
Hope this helps a bit :)

I started smoking because of migraines. Since I quit smoking, I've had a few more migraines than I did while smoking, but not like before I started smoking. I've found that all PG liquids or nic levels being too low/high will give me a migraine really quickly. I don't know if that's normal or not, but when I was exclusively using PG based liquid, I got several migraines. Then I tried all VG and have only had one since, so now I stick to at least 50/50 juices.

So I would suggest getting your friend to try VG juices and maybe adjust her nic levels, too.

Does anybody with knowledge of migraines know if PG or VG can trigger a migraine?

May be the flavorings.
she can tell about the PG or VG by just vaping PLAIN VG w/nic or PLAIN PG with nic.

If one or the other triggers a migraine, it's PG or VG.

If neither does, then it is one of hte flavorings in the ecig she used most likely.

Happened to a friend I started vaping, she got migraines. Was using some cartridge thing, god only knows how long the juice was in those things (bought at mall kiosk overpriced yada yada). I fixed her up with a nice vg juice and shes fie now.

I'm relatively new to vaping and don't have a Blu, however I recently was hit with a nasty headache on the verge of being a migraine the other night. I'd received some new flavors earlier in the day and had been vaping them pretty heavily (they tasted awesome!)...later in the afternoon I noticed my eyes felt like they had pressure built up behind them...and still later in the evening I started to get a headache. I finally inspected the bottle of my new liquid and found it was 24mg nic vs my normal 18mg. Not sure if that was the definitive culprit...but once I cut the juice with some 8mg fluid I didn't get a headache the following day.

This is just MY experience because I had this same problem, not migranes but headaches... make sure she is staying hydrated! Drink lots of water... I have no idea why this works but I posted the same problem and that is what people told me so I tried it and it worked! Good luck my friend.

I am a chronic migraine sufferer, used to be 15+ a month. I am on 3 different daily meds and meds to take when I get one to try and stop it. They started before I ever started smoking so I knew smoking was not a trigger, but it did aggravate them and make them worse. Now that I don't smoke I have not noticed a decrease in number but I do know that I can vape if my friggin head hurts and it doesn't make it worse and I do t even have to get out of bed and go outside to do it. When before I would have to get out of bed go outside make my migraine worse and pray to god that I didn't make it so bad it wouldn't go away.... Thank you vaping in bed and snuggled under my covers with a migraine.

I was vaping at work, and a women working about 5 feet away from me starting complaining about how smoke gave her a migraine. I told her that it wasn't smoke, so she went on to tell me that the flavor of the juice was giving her migraines. I just waited a few minutes until she left the office for the day, and I continued vaping away.

Vaping gives me really bad sinus headaches when I overdo it (like chain vape all day)

personally I think it's the nicotine because I would get headaches from smoking too much too
