Hello,

I received the Alpha Ultramax with RES yesterday, and I have noticed an issue with the switch assembly. Now, it could be just user error as I am using a cartomizer instead of an atomizer. If I completely screw the cartomizer down, it pushes the switch assembly too far down causing the the spring-loaded brass post to always make contact with the battery without applying any force to the switch tube. Anybody else noticed this?

Sounds like the brass pellet (that makes contact with the atty) may not be fully pressed into the bushing. You an remove the bushing and push the pellet/bushing down onto a hard surface.

Check out this video for details:

the only other thing I can think of is if you are using it with two 3volt batteries and you have some that are way out of spec. Some 3 volt batteries that I have are really long because of the protection circuit. Can you tell us what battery setup this is happening with and what actual braND of batteries.

Sleephater,

I appreciate the advice. After having watched the video, I attempted to re-adjust the pellet to no avail. Also, I learned the switch assembly was made to move up and down to accommodate the greatest possible combinations of atomizer/cartomizer and battery. Perhaps, I am just using an overly long center post cartomizer and an extra high battery. Workaround is to not screw the cartomizer all the way down. Still hits fabulously!

Battery is AW Protected 17670 and cartomizer is IKV 510 Gold V2.

I have actually used a v2 on my ultra, I wish I could see your unit so I could be more help.

The cartomizer should not matter, it sounds like your center post might be stuck up or something, or what about your pellet, is it bevel side up? I am determined to figure this out. when you have the top removed from the main body to expose the brass switch post, when you press it does it spring back down?

I agree, it should work fine even if the atomizer was a bit on the long side... I ping N8T, have the engineer way in ;)

Strange. Can you do me a favor and measure the length of the main body, and the battery?

The Main Body should be around 3.15" (or 80mm) long, and the battery should be around 2.65" (67.5mm)

atavanhalen,

Pellet is fully seated with bevel facing cartomizer. When the switch post is pushed in, it springs back. The problem is when I screw in the cartomizer it starts pushing the entire switch assembly including the delrin bushing down towards the battery. I start with the edge of the delrin bushing flush with the metal switch housing. By the time the cartomizer is fully-seated, the brass post touches the top of the battery and the pellet without moving the inner sleeve, and the delrin bushing is sticking out of the bottom of the metal switch housing by 0.05". The brass center post is 0.25" past the bottom of the metal switch housing. Now, if I only screw the cartomizer down so only 0.035" of the derlin bushing protrudes from metal switch housing, it works fine. The only downside is the cartomizer is not fully-seated resulting in it being able to wiggle.

Thank you for helping:vapor:

N8T,

I measured the main body at 3.1", the battery at 2.6", and the depth from the top of the main body to the nipple of the battery at 0.3". Also, I have tried a different AW Protected 17670 and a SSR tank with an adapter. Neither of those helped.

Yep, apologies Devin, you somehow ended up with a main body that is short (.050" or 1.25mm). It's the first of these that I've heard of so I suspect it's an anomaly caused by a burr that got caught in the tool and cut it short.

We will send a replacement out ASAP!

All,

Received my replacement outer sleeve, and it definitely solved the problem. The original sleeve is visually smaller. I noticed with the replacement one the bottom barrel section and the top barrel section, spaces between the grooves, seem to be the same width. This is not the case with the original outer sleeve as the top barrel section is smaller. Now, if I can just get the hang of getting the RES to re-wet the atomizer, I will be in vaping bliss!

A special thank you to SleepHater, N8t, and Atavanhalen for their respective help.

good stuff glad to hear it, tip on the res is to take a couple good hits and then let it sit for a min, it takes a little time to allow the liquid to equalize, once you fig it out, it is totally awesome not havin to fill things constantly. also drawing in without hittin the switch helps as well.
