Hello,
I am considering getting a Provari for my husband but have a few questions that hopefully you can answer for me. First concerns the batteries needed: my husband currently has quite a few mods, mechanical and variable and a large assortment of batteries (all 18650's). Efest Samsung, Sony's, MXCO's, etc, etc. Are Provaris only compatible with AW IMR batteries recommended by Provape? Or can he use the 18650 batteries he currently has with the extension for the device? Does it allow the use of flat top batteries or does it have to be button top? I can't ask my husband this stuff because this is meant to be a surprise. He also uses RDA's only at usually about .8 or so. Will that work with a Provari. Thank you in advance for any information or advice you can give me.

I have a tube-style Provari and the box-style Radius. The tube style is limiting to me, so it gets less use. The Radius is a regular use mod for me. It will handle a .8 ohm no problem.

I have Classics, 2.5's, P3's and a Radius. All are great mods, but only the Radius and P3 will do <1ohm.

The Radius is only 18650, bit the P3 will do 18650 as well as 18490/18500 and 18350. I use AW, Samsung, LG, Sony and Efest batteries. I don't pay attention to what battery I put in a Provari as they all work fine IME.

I don't know what the difference is between the classic, mini, and provari 2.5, other than the classic and 2.5 already coming with an extension to use 18490 batteries, and the 2.5 has an option to add an extension for 18650 batteries...even though you can add the necessary extensions for all 3 battery sizes with all the models.

You can not use flat top batteries with the provari 2/2.5. That is the safety feature they used to keep you from putting the battery in backwards.. So button top batteries are required with those models.

Sorry to regurgitate this stuff, but I feel like it's stuff to consider more.

The provari 3 will handle resistances down to 0.5 Ohm, and it comes with all the extension tubes. It also functions up to 20 Watts, and is a completely modular design. I'm not a big provari fan, but minus a few complaints on the menu(with the prototypes...haven't seen a production version yet), I really liked the mod. I didn't play with a radius, but it felt nice in my hand when I saw it in a shop. Both of those mods can use button and flat tops.

Since your hubby vapes around 0.8 Ohms, I would recommend at least going with the Provari 3, if not the radius if he would like the form factor of it. 0.8 Ohms on a mechanical will get you above 15 Watts, which is the max a provari 2 will reach.

The radius will produce 40 Watts, but it obviously isn't going to be the same form factor as the typical provari tube.

I would definitely consider the Power/Wattage he vapes at before jumping to a decision.

Really just a matter of the Tube (P3) or the Box Mod (Radius). Both are built for very safe operation with any 18650. The P3 goes to 20 watts and the Radius goes to 40 watts. The other tube mods (2.5, Classic) are still just 15. At .08 ohms, he will probably be in the 15-22 watt range.

That is why I got the Radius. The 40 watts gives some room for getting a little wider in playing.

Maybe you can go to a vape shop with him that has provaris, and you can just act like you want to hold and check out all the mods, and gravitate towards the provaris. I'm sure you can figure out by the twinkle in his eyes and the way he talks to the person behind the counter for which one he really, really wants..:)

Something I forgot to ask... What kind of regulated mods does he have? That could help us XY beings help put on his shoes, as well as our thinking caps...as long as I remembered to pick it up from the dry cleaners...

In this day and age, it isn't abnormal for a mod to fire above 20...or even 50 Watts... **Kinda miss the days of the 3 regulated tube mods that ruled the world: Zmax, Vamo, and Provari**...Once the MVP 1 came along, things seemed to start to snowball like crazy, and there's something new-new every other day now. Nimbus what?
**(Not really..as I look at my RX200 and two minivolts)**

I have two tube mods (Provari V2 and Sigelei Zmax), and 7 or 8 variable voltage, wattage, and temperature control box mods.

My Provari 2 uses button top batteries, as SuspectK said uptopic. Is your husband really especially interested in a Provari? I still use my Provari V2 here and there and it's 5 years old. It's a perfect mod to use when you are outside doing yard work, cutting grass, or just tootling around the house because it slips in a pocket and keeps the atomizer business end up. The P2 is a variable voltage mod that only goes down to 1 ohm atomizer resistance and won't work with anything that approaches sub ohm levels The other specs have already been published in this thread.

I use a box mod all day around the house and take a smaller one with me when I go off somewhere, mainly for the USB charging if it's needed. When my main vape was a Provari V2 I'd have to carry an 18650 or two in a snap top case because I only got 5 or 6 hours from one batt.

You might want to feel him out to see what he has his eye on. These days most vapers want bells and whistles. Variable wattage and temperature control are popular and the box mod shape has taken over in design for ecigs. Most every mod has an OLED display that doesn't wash out in bright sunlight.

The Provari P3 is out, and it's expensive, but it has more features that are popular today. I second the motion to let him wander around a good vape shop that has a number of popular mods to choose from. He might just fall in love with a box mod and surprise you.

Does your husband have an interest in Provari's??

I collect mods as a hobby and have had several Provari's. The old school 2.5 is a pretty nice mod but not useful in my quest to stay of cigaettes. So cute but no. The Radius I truly hated. The Radius might work for your husband or not, I use a .8 RDA over 40w all the time while he may not. IMHO the Radius is a 20w mod with a 40w sticker on it.

But here is the kicker........................If my wife bought me a mod I would feel I had to use it. I hated the Radius and sold it off as soon as I found a buyer and it was a happy day sending that stinker on its way. If my wife gave to to me I'd be sitting here now with a big ole smile on my face thinking how much I hated it, "yes dear its my favorite of all time".

Can't you get him a gift certificate??
