questions on dry burning

I am trying for the first time to clean some of my clearomizers. The ones I am questioning are the kind you can see the long wicks and only unscrew off the top. You can't take apart the rest as far as I can tell. I think they are a stardust type. If it matters, they say LB sailebao.

All the videos I have watched and instructions I have read have left some questions.

1) I see the glow inside the tube but it is too far away to see clearly. I did the burn a few more times after seeing the orange glow and the smoke is still coming out strong. Do I keep burn spurts until the smoke goes away? I experimented with one and after 10 more 5 second burns it is still smoking strong. Am I wrecking something?

2) Do I have to wait until the whole thing is dry before I do the dry burning? In above example I shook out and just waited 15 minutes before the burn. It is definitely smoke that is still coming out in the above problem not vapor.

3) If 2 is No, then do I have to wait until the condensation is gone and the wicks are dry before adding e-liquid? What would be the effect if I didn't wait? Does the water mix with the e-liquid and I could just wait a few minutes or shake it?

4) Do some flavors require cleaning every day? My current all-day-vape is chocolate mint. It is pretty brown. After topping of the tank - probably 4 or so complete fills worth - it starts getting a burnt or off taste so I grab a new one. I try to swap for a while to another flavor and come back. Sometimes the first few draws taste better then it goes back to that bad taste.

I am planning on moving to better tanks, batteries, etc and maybe into rebuilding because I am getting pickier about how everything tastes but for now until I decide I am just going to use what I have since it is easy.

I appreciate any help with this.

I'm assuming you have gotten the little metal tip and silicon cap off of the inner tube, so you can see your coil. If not, a paper clip will help you pull them up, then a pair of tweezers or needlenose pliers will help you remove them. It helps to have a magnifying glass handy so you can see your progress.

1) You need to continue pulsing until the smoke clears off, indicating that the residue on the coil has been completely burned into ash. If the coil is heavily gunked up with a blob, it may be too late to save it. Dry burning works best when the coil is coated but not a big blob of residue.

2) No need to wait - the first few pulses will just vaporize the water before dry burning can start.

3) I don't wait for the wicks or chamber to be dry before refilling. You can vaporize some of the water by pulsing the coil before reassembly, but a wet wick just means that the first five to ten puffs will be weak, then the vapor starts rolling! I do a thermometer shake and blow them out to minimize moisture before refilling.

4) Darker liquid and sweeter liquid will leave more residue, so more frequent cleaning is in order. A hot water rinse is good for quick cleanings, but those liquids will require dry burns more often. If you can stick to clear liquids, clearos last much longer.

Don't forget to thoroughly rinse your clearo out after dry burning, or that ash flavor will stick around for some time.

I hope this helps, but if you need more help, just ask. Good luck!

No, I didn't. I will try that. I only took off the tip that you take off to fill it. I didn't realize that tube and other thing would pull out AND go back in. I will try that.

Thanks so much. This really does help. And the video was great. The ones I saw didn't show pulling that out or said you didn't have to. And then only showed the burning of the ones that totally come apart.

It still tastes burnt. I am trying alcohol soaking after dry burning.

One more question. What about burnt wicks? One of them is burnt. There are 2 per tank and the top one comes out. In one of mine the one I can remove is burnt. Should that one be replaced?

Actually 2 more questions. Doesn't the one that is attached to the steel wool and is coiled with the wire burn when you dry burn it? I would think it would burn and fall off when you dry burn it.

I bit the bullet and got down to looking at 3000 posts about rebuildables, said eff it, and googled a few venders and ordered some. Going to the next level of vaping is overwhelming. I don't understand what half of those posts and ads are saying.

Thanks for the help
