I realize that this is not a modder forum, but the question is somewhat generic. Please move the thread if you feel it doesn't belong here.
One of the mods I'm working on is a bottom feeder, and I thought it's relatively mandatory to run a tube or needle through the connector into the carto on top. Then I watched a video about a Reo mod and saw that it just squonks the juice through the hole in the connector, and that's it.

So, is that normal? Do most real grown-up bottom feeders do that, or should I still have a way to slosh the liquid into the middle of the carto?

Thank you!

Bottom feeders feed juice to the bottom of the atty from a bottle that is below the atty. The bottom feeder mods that use a needle do the exact same thing that those without a needle do. They just deliver juice to the very bottom of the atty. The needle only goes in to the atty about a millimeter. If they went in farther, it would inhibit air flow and would likely touch the wires.

Getting juice up to the coil is done with negative pressure caused by the user sucking/drawing on the atty/carto.

I could be wrong about this, but why would you need a carto with a bottom feed mod ? I have a REO mini that carries 3ml of juice, and other mods can handle 6ml of juice at a time. I just put a 2.0 0hm 510 atty on my mini, with a drip-tip simply because I like the tip, add a fresh Battery and go all day. Why the carto ?

Ah, thank you! Is there anything I'd need to do to prevent the liquid causing shorts in the connector?

Liquid is not conductive, so no shorts.

Alot of people like to use cartos on BF's, so they don't have to squonk as often. The squonk basically tops up the carto. I personally wouldn't do it, but it seems to be a popular way.

I put one on my REO Mini sometimes for the extra capacity. If I'm carrying my mini for the day and figuring to be out a little longer than 3ml, it's nice to have the extra ~ml in the carto. Otherwise I generally use a 306 on the Mini.
