Quick question about KangerTech clearomizer protank wicks?

How often do I actually need to replace the wicks?
I'm not sure what model I have, I got it today at Create E Cig in Houston and the girl there said that it's the older model - new one just released recently?

I've seen that I need to replace them anywhere from 1-3 weeks depending on usage and types of liquid, etc.

Are there any ways I can extend the life on a single wick?
Cleaning tips?
Anything else I need to know?

I have an eGo-T battery, and my boyfriend has a zVapor...something. I forgot.

I use mostly EVOD's, but I keep a few protank 2's around for the juices that need them. I can tell you it really is going to matter what you vape, and how often. I clean my EVOD's (Same coil/wick/head as Protank) generally every 2 days or so. It's really easy once you've done it. I will generally rebuild the coil/wick every 2 weeks or so, but honestly I could probably go at least a month if I needed to.

Here is a video I like to point folks to. She goes slower than some other vids out there, but most youtube searches for Protank Cleaning will get you lots of results.

You mentioned needing a protank for certain juices - what's the determining factor here?
Also, what's the difference between the EVOD/Protank?

Right now I've got 16mg Califruit, and he's got 24mg Blood Orange.

The citrus flavors supposedly caused our standard tanks to crack, and I didn't want to spend $14 on us every 2 weeks, hence the protank purchase today. (Yay sales!)

I have heads in rotation that have been used for over a month without changing the wicks. Just clean 'em and dry burn regularly.

That's the reason....some juices will crack a plastic tank like the EVOD. They are pretty similar other than glass/plastic difference and general aesthetics.

In fact they share the same heads, so if you aren't in to rebuilding them, you can buy either changeable heads and they will fit. I think the actual EVOD head has been discontinued, so it's getting harder to find them. Most places sell the Protank heads only now as they fit both.

As long as you keep them clean and make sure and dry burn them afterwards, they will last you quite a while. I guess taking them apart and reassembling them so many times could shorten their life span, but I haven't seen that to be the case.

Okay, I got the part about the heads.

Now for the coils...... is a coil (lol time to put on my noob hat), and how do I/often do I need to replace it?

Coil is the piece of wire that is wrapped around the wick. That is what is inside the head. When you buy a replacement head, the wick and coil are all preinstalled and ready to go. When you "rebuild" you are building a new coil/wick assembly to go into a head.

I would suggest that even if you don't use the skill often, it's a good one to have. When I first started on ecigs, I didn't have all the equipment I have now. There was a week where I had only 1 good head left for my EVODs, and it stopped working after I cleaned it. I had already ordered more and knew they would be here in 2 days, but that night, I ordered my first wick and wire spool and learned how to rebuild. I have the same 10 heads that I've had for 6 months now, and they get new coils every ~2-3 weeks. It's really satisfying to sit down and vape some of my DIY juice with a new DIY coil and wick.

Anyways.....always have backups for your backups and remember that 2 is 1 and 1 is none. Have Fun! and if there's anything else you need, I'm sure someone here will help.

Replacement heads fully assembled will usually run around $1.80 - $2 each. It takes me about 2-3 minutes to rebuild an EVOD now and costs me about...I don't even know? 2 or 3 pennies? To some folks, it's worth it, to some it's not. I don't really need to save the money, I just like doing it.

I used to always clean and rewick them when they leaked, gurgled, etc. Ever since I've found an easy fix for the problems I only refill when its near empty and its been 2 weeks going strong on the PT2 and T3S.

Online, buying in bulk and you're looking at around $2 each. At your local store, the cost could be around $4 after tax. Properly cared for, they can go for weeks without having to be replaced or rebuilt.

Is it really worth it? I found that it wasn't. My time is valuable. However, like luniz mentioned, it's a good skill to acquire. You never know when you either can't order new ones or make the trip to the brick and mortar joint to buy some. It's not terribly difficult, but expect to fail a few times as you learn how.

My first attempt was an unmitigated disaster. Second was almost as bad. Third, fourth and fifth time were like clockwork.
