When I had my first ever vape I found I didn't need to smoke while it lasted. It was a miserable vape, but it worked. I really really wanted to quit smoking, because I knew I had serious health problems from it that were only going to get worse. With that hanging over your head you get really motivated. You know the cigs have got to go!

As soon as I had a vape that lasted all day I was done with the cigs and have not had a single one since. In my experience it's a matter of motivation, and how much you really want to quit. If you have a serious health imperative staring you in the face quitting cigs becomes a relatively simple matter given a decent vape. The vape just becomes what you do now instead of smoking and that's final. I guess I just redirected my urge to smoke to my vaping, and immediately pursued a vape that satisfied me enough. I found that, and the smokes were history.

I've told my story lots of times on ECF. The first week I vaped I was also smoking. By the end of the week I realized that I was down to about 6 cigs a day (from 2 PAD). I kept on vaping and smoking 6 a day for about a year.

One day I decided to vape alternately with my cig after meals. I'd take one hit from each in turn. I realized that the vape tasted good and the cig was nasty. Once I had that thought in mind it was easy to choose vaping over smoking. I decided to finish the pack I had and just vape exclusively after that.

It's been 6 years since I started vaping and 5 years since my last cig. I've never even wanted one since that time. I can walk past someone smoking and all I get is a reminiscent smell of smoke that I know smells inviting at times, but tastes really nasty.

I was a 1 - 1 1/2 PAD smoker for 42 years. I'd already been smoking the roll-your-own, pipe tobacco, blended ciggies for a year & was down to 1/2 PAD of those, and had lost my little smoker's cough. Got/caught something then that laid me up (pretty much slept for 3 days straight), and had no smokes during that time. First day I felt like smoking...I lit one, took about 3 puffs, and thought I was going to "hock up a lung"! So, I decided to finally try vaping to totally quit the smokes.

I knew that for me personally...going cold turkey wasn't an option. I bought a JoyeTech Starter Kit with the slim batteries, shorty atomizers, and refillable cartridges (was closest thing similar to my ciggies). Also bought some 12mg and 6mg juices in 3 flavors I liked. Decided I'd use the 12mg first thing in the AM with my coffee and for that usual after meals ciggie replacement. 6mg was for other times each day.

The first week I allowed myself 9 smokes/day, and started vaping the rest of the time to satisfy my hand-to-mouth habit. Second week, it was 8 per day. Third week 7 per day, and so on. I had my last one Jan 14th, 2014 and was totally smoke-free, 100% vaping only, and loving it!

Have never even craved/wanted another cigarette since having my last one! I can be in an area with smokers, sit next to someone smoking, etc. and it doesn't make me want one at all - it just stinks now to me!

Sounds to me like you just need to find the right combinaton of gear, some juices you like that satisfy your cravings, and a transitioning method that's for you personally. Everyone's way of quitting/switching over is different. Just keep at it...making adjustments as you go until you "hit" what works for you.

For me, the key to quitting was flavors! I started out with Menthol juice to try and replicate smoking. I found that switching to non-cig flavors. made the difference for me. I could vape things I could never smoke and enjoy it. I ordered the strongest flavor I could find, Cinnamon Fireball, and enjoyed it. Eventually I moved on to fruits and other flavors but the super strong flavor got me off cigs. Over 3 years, my tastes have changed but the need for super strong flavors also changed so now I buy a bottle of 24mg and by the time I get done cutting it with VG, its down to between 9mg to 6mg nic but the flavor is still good after steeping. So I recommend finding the flavor you are crazy about and dive into it.

Wen I was starting out, I found that smoking a tobacco-flavored juice helped considerably. Something about hitting certain flavor notes was just more subconsciously satisfying. I also found that going out onto my porch and standing there for five minutes having a nonstop vape session(like I would have done with a cigarette) would fool my brain into believing I had just gone out for a smoke.

Be prepared to replace smoking with vaping long-term. Nicotine is a hard addiction to break, and while some of us have been able to reduce the nicotine level over time to reach the promised land of 0nic, many of us have not and we continue to vape years later. In any case, there is every reason to believe that vaping is far less damaging to your body than smoking, so do what you need to stay off the stinkies! Good luck!

That's a clever trick. Another one. When you smoke a cigarette keep your eyes closed but open when you vape.

I've been trying to quit smoking for at least three weeks I'm using 18 MG juice and I still have the itch to have a cigarette anyone know of a way to break this itch?

So far I haven't had a analog in about three hours and by just vaping haven't even had a craving and all you commenting on this post is keeping my mind busy

The trick is to vape like crazy when you feel the urge to smoke. The extra nic hit will knock that craving out and satisfy the reason for it. 24mg juice is about right for most during the first year.

Once you get a handle on the cravings you might want to try reducing the nic by trying incremental reductions in the nic in your juice. I went down about 6mg at a time until I hit 6mg, then went to 3mg and stayed there.

I tried 0mg but the blah throat hit made me go back to 3mg. I've been at 3mg for about a year now. I haven't had a craving for higher nic, but I seem to be using a 50ml bottle a bit faster. 50ml lasts me about a week at 3mg.

+100 for setting your mind on quitting and finding at least one flavor you would rather enjoy then that cig. Then work on finding at least a couple more you can change off with to keep some variety. First you will be looking forward to finishing up a tank so you can move on to another great flavor, then you will get a touch of shinyitis for another tank so you don't have to finish one to go to the other.

You got a good start, so keep up the good work!

Here's how I did it. First I committed which I think if you are here that you have. Day one I limited myself to 9 analogs and spaced them out, vaped in between. I did spend a good part of the day thinking about the time for my next analog. Day 2 reduced to 8 analogs, vaped in between (18mg) and so on. By the morning of day 5 I vaped first and then immediately lit up an analog, didn't have more than a couple of draws before I put it out because it tasted awful. Never looked back. 15 months smoke free. Different things work for different people but this worked for me. Do celebrate all the analogs you haven't smoked!
