Well I'll be blowed. I always assumed that guy was feeding me BS when he said his doctor told him not to quit until he hit 60. From what you say, and some other people here as well, maybe I was wrong about that.

That might only apply to cold turkey. The nicotine from vaping could negate the blood pressure problem. Hope that works for you.

Yep, that's exactly what my doctor said @englishmick that it is mainly with those who go cold turkey. He said you CAN quit, you just need to be careful about it and make sure have your doctor monitor you to stay safe, and also call them if you show any adverse effects of the quitting. I started smoking when I was 13, and my doctor knew it before my parents did LOL, he figured it out because of my breathing patterns and heart rate and blood pressure. He's been on me ever since to quit, and even told me when I was 16 that due to the amount I smoked I might not see 18. He's an awesome doctor, has been my doctor for 36 years gonna and he's gonna be happy I quit, but I'm interested in how he will feel about the vaping. I usually will discuss something like that with him before doing it, but I wanted to quit so bad and my next appointment was 2 months from the day I made the decision hard and fast and never discussed it with him before I did.

The safest alternative to smoking is just breathing air, as we all know. I have read enough about quitting smoking cold turkey to believe that our bodies may have a number of bad reactions to the abrupt complete removal of nicotine, increasing risk of heart attack, stroke and possibly cancer. This suggests to me that moving to vaping, at least in the short term, is the safest way to make the transition from smoking.

I'm of the "anything is better than smoking" camp.

I have high blood pressure (weight, heredity, smoking) and had to up my Norvasc to 10mg when smoking (and ever do a "lets try other BP" meds with your doc? oh damn headaches for weeks) but now after quitting back down to 5mg/d and a great bp of around 128/78 most of the time, but the respiratory benefits have been incredible for me..no more nebulizers, inhalers, steroids (which just made the weight gain worse).

I'll agree with a fragile health situation and decades of receiving a stimulant that tapering down nicotine would be the safest way..and while I'd love to have been able to do patches..been there done that..so vaping it is.
