I don't really want to get addicted to these...
Maybe you shouldn't look at it as an addiction. I see your point and understand why you would feel this way, not long ago I did, too. Now I know that, to be the fully functioning human I was before I quit the smokes, I need something to assist my brain chemistry. Cigarettes were a form of self-medication that supplied the maoi's I needed to keep everything in balance, my body couldn't do it alone, nor ever will. Some are born this way, some become this way through trauma and some become dependant through chemical abuse (including tobacco). Not all smokers fall into this catagory, but many do. If this is the case, there's no changing it, we just have to deal with it. That might include the use of psychiatric drugs, but if the smokes work, so should another form of tobacco. Burning tobacco is the killer. Snus of the Swedish variety has been studied and no adverse effects to health found. Some might look at it as trading off in tobacco addiction, for me it's survival without the side effects of Big Pharma. If it were just an addiction, I would have made it with my PV.
However, I have to wonder if a higher nic level would help me past the cravings too.
E-liquid doesn't contain the alkaloids found in tobacco. Low nicotine contributes to craving, insomnia and a feeling of too much oxygen, but not much in the way of fuzzy thinking and definitely not continued depression. The best way to test this is boost your level and stay there for a week or 2 (no smokes allowed). If the craving goes away at first, but returns or never goes away, you need more than the stripped down nic molecule. Same applies if the fuzzy thinking or loss of mental focus, including depression continues or comes back.
I followed the example set by OTD. He started vaping long before I did, but was never able to shake 1 or 2 smokes a week and was still mentally struggling like a greased cat trying to crawl out of a hole in the ice. The snus put him back together and the smokes went away. He's still kinda nutty, but I think that's just him
