A vaping friend strongly cautioned me about cold turkey as when he quit, he experienced a nasty lung infection. So, i was doing both-- sometimes forcing myself to smoke. Around the same time, literature from my doctor suggested buying cheap horrible cigarettes as the last pack, so the memory of my last few would not be positive.

Well, I didn't buy the bad tasting cigarettes, but started off by leaving my smokes in the car and vaping only at work. That worked out fairly well but took a few weeks. I couple times, I smoked at work. But a positive thing is, after vaping for 12 hrs or so, the first cigarette tastes pretty bad (I remember sulphur).

There are different approaches, and no ultimate solution. Yet, my experience with associating negativity with the final cigarettes should be considered.

I quit by accident, and I think it worked out great for me. I really didn't think ecigs would work, so there was absolutely no pressure that I put on myself. Having a cigarette wasn't taboo. I could have one if I wanted. I planned on having one when I wanted, I just ended up not wanting. I can see how it would potentially help some of us who have tried to quit so many times and failed. That pressure, but impending sense of failure, yet again, can be very harsh and demotivating.

Kind of like, when you are trying to lose weight and tell yourself you are only going to eat healthy paleo vegetarian organic no carbs. The more you forbid yourself something, the more desirable it is. Then, when you do slip up and taste the forbidden fruit, you think, "Well, failed that again, might as well throw in the towel."

There's something to be said for a period of overlap between smoking and vaping. When I started, I said, "Huh? This is weird. This 'tobacco flavor' liquid doesn't taste like a cigarette at all. I'm not sure if I like this." But before long, I was like, "Ugh, this cigarette is pretty nasty compared to the juice I was vaping earlier."

im finding it hard to just vape and not smoke normal cigs but if I did what you said id end up just smokeing lol. I still smoke a normal cig in the morning for the buzz and odd relaspe but I know i want to quit so I will, once im used to vapeing ill not need anything but my ecig and favorite juice lol.

because if I had enough gear to make a cartoon id just say to myself ill try to give up once its done and then the cycle begins again.

I just have to tell my story..... There may not be a relative point to my posts here.

I guess I'm an odd one. 37 year smoker, no cough, 2.5 packs a day.....I LOVED smoking. I was a RYO guru. I have in my house right now 6 large crank rolling machines, Two electrics, 34 cartons of Beretta chlorine free tubes, 11 pounds of imported Peter Stokkebye tobacco in a large freezer, and 42 jars of 72 smokes rolled and ready to go ( goober grape jars ).

I was handed an ego and a dripping atomizer on cold wet winters day while watching a movie with one of my daughters. I told her I wasn't smoking this SH__!

Well, I did, I thought it as amusing and didn't want to go outside in he cold Feb rain. I smoked it through out the movie, then through another movie, then in bed. I woke up and wondered if I could make until noon. I did. ...........I actually quit. It wasn't as satisfying as the smokes, but I just wondered if I could do it for a week.

I haven't had a cigarette since me and my daughter had watched that movie. If anyone cares to visit me in Georgia, Ill hook you up with some good RYO stuff.

What I might be saying is that due having a dripping atomizer and some good quality juice in my hand, I think that is the reason I quit so handily. I really was a proud smoker. Now I'm not.

I took Zyban back in '04 and quit analongs fairly easily... that is untill I was no longer taking Zyban. I did great for the better part of a year - the occasional struggle when I was out with friends for a few cocktails but, since smoking was banned in bars around the same time, it was easier.

One day I was out drinking while on vacation where smoking wasn't banned in bars, I decided I wanted a cigarette. So, I asked someone for one, and then another, and another. Then I felt like a jerk bumming smokes so I bought a pack. I'll quit again tomorrow - after a year I've got to be as cool as all my friends who only smoke when they drink, right?

I finally re-quit well, look at the banner below. I doubt I'd have done it if it wasn't for vaping.

Good luck to you Tink.... You'll do t this time !

My short story is here:

I smoked for 35 years. Recently 70 regular cigarettes or 35 roll-your-own a day. I managed to quit smoking using the mechanical MOD with 3 ml tank and capacious 18650 3400 mAh batteries (I own three). I vape now 6 ml of 24 mg/ml liquids – all of them different tobacco tastes (Cuban, Jamaica, Texas, Natural, Pure, etc.). I don’t try to find the taste of my cigarettes in the liquids because it isn’t possible. A 6 ml of 24 mg/ml per day is a lot of nicotine but I suppose sooner or later I’ll be capable to trim that down to 3 ml per day.

I may add that when I decided to try vaping my idea was to clean my body for some time from the toxins and come back to the cigarettes. Over one month passed and now I don’t think about coming back to my previous withdrawal. Using roll-your-own cigarettes I became customized to different necessary devices and accessories. Now I simply use the other devices and accessories and I master vaping the same way as I mastered before rolling the cigarettes.

I think years of RYO prepared me for vaping, too. I'm already used to the idea of spending a little time each day preparing my "smokes" instead of just stopping at the gas station and buying a pack.

Sometimes my mind is not my friend. In reading your excellent post OP, I found myself thinking how nice those rolled up smokes sounded. I checked out the links. It's probably just me, but I actually like vaping, not smoking, and found myself conflicted with this information. I found myself thinking, whisky, tango, foxtrot, why am I reading about a tutorial on smoking, and doing so less expensively? I didn't like the way I felt.

I want to vape. I love vaping. I don't want to smoke, or learn better ways to do so. I want to help people quit smoking and help them with their vaping issues. Probably just me, but I don't think this information belongs in the New Members Forum. Just my little rant and two cents. I wish you the very best. Now, stop smoking and start vaping! Save a life. More power, stronger juice, better gear....that's the way I did it.

^^^^^^my thoughts. Expressed very kindly and thoughtfully.
I don't need to know how to smoke better.
Teach me something more about vaping, please.
I. do. not. want. to. smoke. one. more. cigarette.
Amen

These stories show why vaping is the most effective smoking cessation method yet. People are quitting who didn't even intend to quit! You can't say the same for cold turkey, Chantix, gum or patches, can you?

this is true, i seriously didn't want to quit, didn't see any point in it i knew what i was doing. i ended up enjoying vaping more and stuck with it.

I made a pretty much seamless transition to vaping. My mate started a bit before me, and I had a few hits of his CE4, I liked whatever flavour it was in it and ended up buying one the next day. In the three months I've been vaping, I've had one day back on the analogs, I was at work, just topped up with the lsat of the juice I had on me, and then dropped my device, drip tip fell off, lost all my juice. Had to bum smokes for the rest of the day, and couldn't wait til I back home for a vape!

Two days ago I had my last "store bought". I'll admit I am having a hard time just vaping but after 7 hours of use I tried to smoke a cig and nearly choked to death. The flavor of the cig was already overwhelming. However I am still wanting to light one up and suck it down. I think I may try this method if my cravings haven't calmed down in another couple days. Hadn't thought of trying to make my own. Thanks for the info. :)
