Alright, this is about the only place I can think of that a rant of this type would be tolerated so here goes:

I've been vaping for about a year and a half. I usually have no problem at all. I sit in a cube surrounded by 5 other cubes. No one has ever even noticed me vaping or said one thing or cared one iota. I get along really well with the other five people.

Well today, the mail boy/court run messenger, sees me emitting some vape and goes and tells the office manager. She shows up at my desk and says (name omitted) just said you had something over here smoking?? So I had a lot of explaining to do, but in the end was told to quit it. I've never had a problem with this guy before. He's in maybe his early 30s?? We are grown adults. Who does that? Who goes out and tells on your like you are in the 2nd grade??

Who does that?

A 30 something mail boy/court runner that wants to move up the corporate basement steps!

Unfortunately common these days. There's no shame anymore, and a worrying amount of people have stasi-esque tendacies.

In the UK, someone was arrested and sent to prison for three months for making a sick joke about a missing school girl. Being offensive is a criminal act. What happened to the days when we avoided people who offended us.

The proper thing for him to have done, is talk to you about it personally. I din't think too much of people who do things behind one's back.

you just gotta mark it up to electronic cigarette ignorance. People don't understand it so they make a decision about it before they know the facts. The number one problem with e-cigs is the perception issue. It looks like smoke so it MUST be as bad as smoke.
When i'm at work, i vape with the smokers. Outside. It's better to just roll with the punches until inevitably, the word and the knowledge gets out there...

You might want to think about going to the offending person and telling him that you didn't know that your vaping offended him. This will bring the issue out in the open and it won't fester any longer. Let him know a little about what vaping is and that you would be glad to explain it further if he's interested. Shake hands and just follow the rules, you're going to have to anyway.

Sorry you went through an uncomfortable situation with your supervisor.

I ran into "we don't like that here" with no reasonable explanation at an event I attended recently. Kind of a vapekill but at the same event I met a guy who's thoroughly into vaping (wish I'd gotten his contact info--would love to talk shop with him) who gave me a lot of sources for equipment and juices and best of all how to get into DIY (I'm an artisan soapmaker, so I play with lye for giggles and grins so working with the nic liquids won't faze me the slightest), so I guess it all balances out.

The way I see it, you basically have three options:

1) meet with your boss to get across your side of the story, explain that no smoke is produced, that it's no different from the steam from a kettle.

2) stealth vape in the bathroom.

3) modify an air rifle to fire sugar coated (MODERATED) pellets, find out where he lives, cam up, hide in the bushes and take him out. Quick, silent and deadly, with no ballistics evidence.

As far as I see it, 3 is the only sensible option.

it sucks, but I'm going to play devil's advocate here,,,,,

maybe he THOUGHT it was smoke,,,,,,,real smoke,,,,,,

why didn't he confront you? it's not his JOB to confront you,,,,,,

I had a co worker who was constantly late,,,,,,every single bleeping day for SIX YEARS.

Finally I complained about it,,,,,,nothing changed.

We got a new manager and I complained to her (4 years into the issue),,,,,,

she asked me why *I* didn't confront my co worker about it,,,,,,,,

you mean other than saying "you're late again"???

it's not my job, it's HERS, that's why they pay her the big bucks,,,,,,to handle misbehaving employees,,,,,,

although, I agree, in your case, it sucks,,,,,because you were NOT doing what it sounds to me like he THOUGHT you were doing,,,,,,,yet the boss STILL put a stop to it,,,,

but that's her job,,,,to make those decisions,,,,,,,not your co-worker's.,

I work at a drug rehab, and the fools make me go outside with the smokers (I am the only non smoker). Ranting is all fine and great but in the end I follow the rules. Or go to the bathroom, or a empty room, or a empty office, or.......they are all outside and I stay behind and answer the phones and continue to work while I vape and they are none the wiser.

It is still emitting a substance. No matter how healthy, people that do not understand will tattle.

It is unfortunate, but I have 4+ people a day assume I am smoking because I use a GGTS. People are dumb. As such, be stealth or work in an environment that allows it.

It is lame that he tattled rather than ask you.

I am new to this, so let me ask. Have there been any studies that show whether or not there is any second hand nicotine or other elements that are emitted? My wife is pregnant, and I go outside to vape for the benefit of her and my child. Would rather not chance it. It was my understanding that this method of nicotine delivery is too new, that nobody really knows the long-term effects. I'm doing it knowing that I am taking a risk, but that's my choice. I don't mean to be a wet blanket, but do we really know that there is no harm in second hand vape?
