The problem is you need to use much more when you wick bad. Like more than you even think is possible compared to cotton.

Ive gone 270ml of Arabic tobacco at 30w and the wick was fine still, no real gunking either.

So in a way he was right I believe, it dont think it really shrinks persay. But it does reduce considerably when the fibers work thier way together in use... the fluffiness and spaces between fibers and the fibers crimp gets all aligned and comes together over time being wet.. usually a day. Or longer below 15w. Shorter time above 20w

You've never stopped by the rayon thread to see me bad, kinda hurt man.. Jk.

The speed of release of the juice from rayon is what make it work so well.

Here's the wick after 250ml of tobacco at 30w (it had been through hell and by this point I dropped it with the cap off bending the coil badly, but still vaped it another 20ml before I finally decided to go ahead and rewick.

Here it was at 120

JeremyR, thanks for the tips, but I already knew to use much more rayon than I would with cotton. I like how rayon doesn't scorch like cotton does around the coil. However, even when I use a LOT of rayon, it still seems to shrink down to almost nothing after a day or two. I make large coils, too (3.0 mm diameter)

I'm vaping at 45w the last week no problems, and will go 100ml no problem.. 2.5mm coil currently.

I think your not pushing it far enough bad, you need to use a LOT more... A whole lot more than you think is possible to work. For a 3mm coil you need at Least half of a Sally's CCR strand, if not more.

You should think : this is crazy, its not going to work its way too tight.. Then you'll be close I think.

From my experience it does shrink.

After 2 - 3 days use rayon has shrunk down to almost nothing. I sorta like it because of it doesn't scorch like cotton does, but I find I have to change the Rayon more often than cotton because there is hardly anything left to wick.
It's a scientific FACT! Believe what you want. what do the kids say today? Oh yeah, Google it.......

Many users call it shrinking for lack of a better word.

But I have never seen it actually shrink like clothing... but the fluffiness and spring of the rayon in the coil will reduce as its worked.

Any burnt taste or dry hit when using rayon is on the coil itself not the rayon. The fibers extremely resilient when wet. It almost protects itself by stopping juice release to keep from burning. The coil will dry burn first.

The abilities of wicking materials to wick or not means nothing in choosing wicking material to you? Interesting

That's not the way it works in a vaporizing device. That's what I mean. It was not in an application test only the ability to absorb juice. Absorbing is not wicking to a heat source.

You know,... use cotton that's fine. Someday maybe you'll realize what I'm talking about.

If juice is in your wick its not vaporizing, vaporization happens on the coil. The wick must release juice to the coil. Cotton absorbs and holds it, you only vaporize the excess that's outside the cotton. Rayon will run itself near white dry before you get a dry hit on the coil. Quite amazing if you ever saw it yourself, you'd be shocked.

Happy vaping what ever you do!

I haven't tried rayon and maybe I will sometime, but I have only ever gotten one dry hit ever with organic Japanese cotton. When that happened the wick was bone dry (I was on a road trip and I was consumed in reading directions and not on my mod). It definitely released the fluid onto the coil though.

I love rayon. I'm someone who bought the 500 foot roll from Sally's Beauty Supply (It's called CelluCotton.). It comes in a l-o-n-g tail coiled up in the box. I can get at least six wicks out of one INCH, so you know how long the 500 FEET are going to last me. If anyone wants to try some Rayon, I'll be VERY happy to stick a few inches of it in an envelope and send it to you. Free. Just PM me with a mailing address.

@Dioxyde, if you want me to send you some, PM me.

Where were you a few hours ago! I just ordered a 40 ft roll haha. Seriously though, thanks for the offer.

Anyways as far as rayon vs ... cotton, taste is always subjective, for instance some people like to taste cotton and others like to taste their juice.:D
