I have built a few coils in my life, mostly with with an IGO-L and one coil with my RSST

I bought some supplies, picked up some SS cable wick, do I need ekowool for it or can I make a coil with wire and the cable wick?

Also back when I did use my RSST there was debate about oxidizing wicks, does everyone still oxidize? or is it not necessary?
