RBA/RTA 101 Beginners Class for the Uneducated But Ready to Learn

I have been vaping now for almost a year. I did have a SID .... and "loaned" it to my son - and as a mother - knew when I did I wouldn't ever see it again except when he is using it .... which is ok.
I have the Vision ll 1600, the iTaste VV which I love and have the Smoktech 2000mah vv/vw on the way hopefully to arrive in the next few days.
Here's my question - I would really like to purchase a RBA or RTA (don't know if i am using the right terms) something rebuildable - would prefer not dripping (call me lazy i guess). I have rebuilt some of the coils for my Pro 3 tank..... so I believe I would be able to to these also. Do I HAVE to have a mod to use a rebuildable?? If so .... why?? Can someone direct me to something (preferable in print) that I can read and learn this at a "dummy but want to learn" stage??

Well, you need something that can run it well. If it goes to at least 15w, there are a lot of things you can run.

Look at some rta's like the kayfun/Lemo, Taifun, etc, and watch reviews on youtube. PBusardo has very indepth reviews. Pay attention to the builds to help you decide what you think you will be comfortable with. Then buy it and build it

If you have re built the coils on a pro tank than you are beyond capable of re building a RDA or RTA. Most of these are far more easy to build coils on then the Pro Tank and results are worlds away from a Pro tank ( not knocking it they are excellent for many). I would sincerely suggest purchasing an authentic KFL or Russian many are available on the classifieds for less than RRP and watching several great reviewers online about the re build. I would be happy to help you out as I am sure many of us on here would be as well.

I just looked at the specs on the battery I have ordered - it says it goes to 12 watts .... so thats alitte short of 15 needed

This battery has a voltage range from 3.2 to 4.8 volts and a power range from 4 to 12 watts. With the VV/VW ARO, you're getting all the functionality of an APV!

Honestly for me the conversion to the KFL was such a transformation I really have nothing else in life to compare it to. I went from Pro Tanks ( which I loved) to a KFL and it was 180 degree difference. I love RDAs as well and my "Squonkers" but everyday my KFL's go with me and they all have my favorite juices in them.

Aren't there several different Taifun?? How do I know which is best? They all look the same except for the size and shape.....

Well I looked it up you could use this battery especially if you built your coils around 1.8-2.0 ohms but I think the KFL (or similar) would look a little funny on it as they would be really top heavy. Have you considered any of the very affordable authentic Mech mods out there:
- SMPL
- FUFDA
- Colonial
- Hemlock
- Lifestyle
- Doomsday
Or even the very affordable MVP2? These would all be great mods to try your hand at a RTA

1: drippers - it seems to be a bad description; todays drippers seem to vape more than a few cigarettes anyway so actaully it makes sense to squirt after 10 minutes instead of light another cigarette after 5 minutes

2: No you don't have to use a 'mod' to use a rebuildable.
When you buy a rebuildable, chances are you will be offered 28 gauge or bigger kanthal;
you're already rebuilding protank coils so chances are you're already equipped with 30 gauge kanthal.
So long as you're using the same gauge wire, you can build the same size coils.

3; You are in exactly the right place to find the answers you seek;
The questions you want to ask have already been asked here but searching the forums - gawd it's just not only easier to ask again, there's people just standing by to answer because they know you won't find it otherwise.
Actually its easier to search ecf using google than the ecf search

RDA: there's the Magma, because it looks so simple.

RBA: theres the Russian:
or maybe the fogger is easier to find.

Wow .... that is a LOT of help for you all! I have considered buying a mech mod - but read something about them being easy to over load/heat because they don't have a "fuse" type something ..... sorry .... I'm learning.

Nice! why are the holes so deep around the screws?? Does it mean there would be more liquid on the wicks that would last longer?

No need to be scared just understand what you need to get to do this safely. If you go with a MVP2 my very first suggestion Genuine Innokin this will allow you to have an internal long life battery without purchasing separate batteries and a charger. Then purchase a KFL or Russian preferably used the classifieds in here are a great place to start but if not there are many site with the real deal around $80. This is a very safe kit and is regulated so you are pretty protected. The MVP and KFL are proven devices

MVP2 and KFL should run you less than $150 and both will be something you will not feel the need to sell to get "more" they are both keepers.

A mech mod is a container for the battery; good thing to have for backup purposes;

It's like your SID but without the screen and no short circuit protection etc, etc, etc.
Great to have as a backup in case you SID stops working.

I have a Lemo (kayfun type tank) on my mvp2, but it struggles with a 1.6ohm coil. Hence my suggestion for 15w.

The Eleaf iStick is new and very popular, so may have a bit of a wait, but you can get it for less than $35. Goes to 20w. I have a Rose v2 clone on it. My atty is as tall as the mod, but they are working great together

The magma is a very nice dripper. Amazing flavor, easy to build and deep wells.

I learned all my builds watching videos. I'm sure you will do fine.

The HCigar version is very nice. There are cheaper clones, but some have needed juice channels deepened or better o rings put on. Since it would be your first one, I recommend the HCigar.

I love my Taifun. Very easy to build and fill. Fantastic vape.

I agree with the kayfun/ Russian tanks for sure, someone mentioned the fogger but that's a dual coil design so imo would stay away for now. now it can be very confusing about these kayfuns because there are so many clones about. there are some great clones, but some bad ones as well, if you can swing an authentic new or used, it potentially would be less hassle. as for a mod, imo at first stay with a vv device and not a mech and personally I would go for at least one that is 15 watts this way you can build coils in a much wider range. I know its easier said then done but a provari is one of the best vv mods in the world and well worth the money, here again you can pick these up used in the classys. a kayfun and provari set up is the best choice imo for you hands down. also if for some reason (which I doubt) you don't continue to vape or decide to go back to protanks( which I doubt after you vape this set up) you can always re sell without a negotiable loss (as long as they are authentics)

I used a vape pro, and an mvp 2 for over 6months with RBAs..

You'll work your way up to heat that can cause your mod to get hot enough to have over temp protection come on after a pull or two, if the atty is flush with the mod...

I highly recommend watching out for user reviews of the new box mods...particularly:
IPV3, smy god, and sigelei 100watt. ..or whatever they're going to call it now that it's 150 Watts.

You can vape like a madman, or vape like it's an ego with a huge battery supply...all in the resistance/voltage range.

I love mechs...but I'll take a regulated mod, that will do the same thing, over them any day.

But to answer, I think the magma and kayfun would be perfect.

Once u go to a kayfun u will never go back. Easy to build and super reliable. In my opinion I would grab a quality clone if u can't find a used authentic to see if u like rebuildables without dropping big money. Once u fall in love with it u can pony up for an authentic and use the clone for parts or a backup.
