My husband is finding himself leaning toward the rda/rba models he was wondering if out of the 3 models hes looking at what would be his best performance with a vamo2 kayfun lite, Igo W4, style atomizers the Trident building his own coils and using cotton wicks? Any experience on any experience on these three would be greatly appreciated, Thanks (Note: all three are clones)

My own experience has been with IGO-L's...the IGO Series is a very easy platform to work with and won't break the bank!!
I'm using an MVP v2, so NO sub-ohm coils here!!! But the IGO's are large enough for multi-coil builds, if that sparks your interest down the road....I use a single micro coil, ~1.8 ohms on a cotton wick (DO NOT DRY-BURN COTTON!!) and it gives me SUPER performance!!:)
Others will likely chime in on the Trident and others....Can't speak for them myself.....
HTH!
Happy (vaping) Trails!
(Off-topic.....if you're in Hot Springs, AR...that's where our "baby puppy", Brianna, was born!!:D)

Silica wicks are more favorable for newbies to RBAs starting with normal builds. Cotton wicks are better suited for micro coils. Personally, I don't prefer one over the other, but some people really like cotton.

The Vamo is a good starter mod. It will check the resistance of your coils and has safety features that make building your own coils safer.

Jerri,
It really depends on what he wants it for. The Kayfun series is a tank (RTA) & is relatively large (4ml of e-liquid), and the IgoW4/Tridents are dripping atomizers (RDA). Also, he is running them on a VamoV2, so though I don't own one of those, I do know it has its limitations and I don't care for my Kayfun or drippers on my VV devices. I usually suggest a mech for running kayfuns and drippers.

Kayfun is easy to build, and does not leak, unless you purposely flood it (in my experiences). Though if things aren't right on your build, you end up having to drain the tank to get to the coil(s) and rebuild… which means messy. Some of the clones are pretty nice, so if he wants a tank so he can use it while driving etc… Go this route.

I looked at the Tridents, and just didn't like them and went with a Patriot. The IgoW4 is a basic 3 pole dripper, and though simple, will be a good platform to learn coil building and great as an inexpensive dripper. SO if he is just wanting to drip, and learn some coil building, go this route.

All IMO of course :D

Although new to the process of rebuilding RDA's, my impression is that the hardware effects more of the ease of build and airflow options, while your actual build effects vapour production and performance.

I am currently using the IGO-W with a single 1.8ohm coil and cotton yarn wick. Really performing nicely. The IGO was easy to setup with the hole guides in the posts I didn't have to wrap the wires around a screw, and the Phillips screws in the post are secure so no sliding around. You are stuck with the stock airflow but there is 2 holes in the unit, I don't really find it an issue, but I've seen some build videos and lots of people drill it out to get an airier draw.

I do have a Trident clone coming in the mail, I'm really excited about the adjustable airflow, but not the flathead screws, but that's a minor worry.

I was having a IGO build discussion with someone in a different forum, and in a roundabout way, we came to the conclusion that if you're using a VV/VW battery, you're probably better off building a single coil, whereas if you have a mech mod it's opportune for the dual coils. Once you double your coils, you drop ohm load in half (two 2ohm coils will read out as 1ohm), which may be difficult for some variable devices to fire optimally.

If I get a chance, I'll post my Trident findings here for you to peruse. I have a feeling it's going to be a few weeks until I see it though.
