Haha don't get me started on car stuff. Between vape gear and wanting new car parts my wife wants to kill me! Sometimes I don't know which to get, but lately my ride has been neglected in favor of vape stuff.

I sold a car to get away from buying car parts. Had a real nice Subaru that after 7 years (and way too much money), I finally got it where I wanted it to be. I guess all the tickets I would get for suspension and exhaust weren't as important as making sure my child was safe and I could afford to feed her lol.

Man, I got no time to build Claptons! LOL. But I do have time to wrap them around a drill bit! hhahaha. I will build them one day, but not until after I get done with a few things in my near future. This is like an $8 roll here. You wrap lota Clapton, long time.

As a note, I have heard mix things about this wire. Some are saying that there is too much machine oil on them, which would not be a problem if there wasn't more wire wrapped around the core. From my experience, UD kanthal certainly does have that greesy coating on them, leaving streak marks on my fingers if I run the wire through. This is the only kanthal my shop is selling now, but I have no complaints about the quality of this wire. I'd just imagine that it would be difficult to get all of the gunk off their clapton wire.

Cheers!

I've only bought it once and it's still lasting me. I taste, smell or see no machine oil at all. I am sure those that have experienced it are telling the truth. I am just stoked I ain't one of them.

Isn't that just a great feeling?? I'm never on the winning end of these sort of things though... "Get an MVP 2.0, it's built like a tank!" 2 months later it takes a drop and dies completely. The next MVP 2.0 I bought is still going, but the 510 threads stripped in 3 months lol. Gave it to a friend with a Protank mini 2.

In other news, I will be receiving a Nixon RDA in the mail tomorrow!! I'll report back with pics... maybe even a scandal! ;)

100% the feeling when I was typing it. I refuse to be one of those people that tries to champion something that others experience negatively like somehow I am on the side of companies and not consumers, but it sho' is a good feeling when I only have to stand with them because they are fellow consumers and not because we are actually in the same boat! I am generally the one that gets the 'bad ones'.

Chowderhead said that he consulted with Praxis on the new Derringer. Last time I asked (which has been at least a month - month and a half) he said Praxis told him it would be released in two to three months. Also, the new Derringer will be released in two versions - bottom fed and non-bottom fed. But, yeah, haven't read anything official about it. I doubt the Thump is the new Derringer since it was a collaboration. The Derringer is Praxis' baby. I'd imagine will see something during ECC.
Here's to hoping it's two post. Maybe it'll be two post and top down airflow, a man can dream. I got some of the UD Clapton wire and it's great but it's just not the same as making your own. Only problem being is I always end up destroying my fingers making claptons. I've tried those jigs but still not as good as doing it by hand and trying to push just a bit more as the wire bores into your fingers.

About the Clapton wire. I use Steamengine to learn what I want to build. How do you figure with Clapton since it's one gauge wrapped over another?

Thanks!
My rule of thumb is that the higher gauge wire adds so much mass that current doesn't travel through it as much as the core. Instead it is heated from the inside out. I haven't touched steam engine in a while because I use regulated devices with a low build limit, but I would venture a guess it wouldn't be far off from a standard coil of the same internal gauge wire wraps and diameter.

I just ordered some ud clapton and should arrive tomorrow but it got me thinking, does it work with a mech? what should I aim for? never used claptons before

At 4.2 volts (not calculating voltage drop), you will likely find the Clapton experience underwhelming. The ramp up time is going to be pretty long. Report back though!
