Speaking of the AX1, how are you liking yours? Not digging the tighter draw?Love the airflow on this atty (don't have one yet, just looking). And when I say the airflow, I don't mean how much it has, but how it's laid out. I can't stand when an atty isn't designed to let air, well, flow!
[I am trippin' on this concept right now with the AX1. It just doesn't the let air flow all that well.]

I understand what you mean air not flowing around the coils. Have you tried 2mm ID yet? (I haven't on this atty). It seemed to solve all my performance problems on the snapdragon and the airflow is similar. This should allow air hit the coil from the bottom but flow around it a little better. My snapdragon build is a dual 24g N60, 9/10 wrap around a 2mm mandrel. It wicks really well; it will probably wick even better in the AX1 due to the shallower juice well. TBH, I'm not really sure how much the air is really gonna move around the chamber; with bottom airflow, the air directed to the coil from the bottom and gets pulled directly up to the outlet afterwords. The air is given a direct path to the outlet from the inlet as where a top airflow atty is the exact opposite; the air flows directly down over the coil and then is pulled down to the bottom of the chamber where who knows what it will do before it exits through the drip tip. It's not so much that I don't dig a tight draw, just not this one. It's weird, it's like the atty is congested or something. Sure, some of it could be due to the fact that it is impossible to not get liquid in the air holes (even though it won't leak), but I feel the airflow being completely covered up by the wicks makes it so I am not able to fully cool down my coils properly--being that the air holes are so small and because they are completely covered. The airflow from the under the coils needs flow, and here it's like there's no escape for the air to move up and around the coils. [Not sure if that made any sense?]
I switched the top cap around and just used the slots along the sides and that airflow felt more like it, but I swear it feels like its 2x as much as normal.
Having said all that, the atty is super, super slick! I just think the vape suffers unnecessarily from this slick design.
I've tired several single-coils, but it's just a little bit better. I am going to continue trying out various single-coil options to see if there isn't some way I am missing. I think I am gong to try it so the single coil lies in between the two rows of air holes.
edit: for anyone interested in what I am going on about, look at this pic again (which I should've done more thoroughly), notice that if this thing was actually wicked up, there is little room for the airflow from underneath to actually move around the coils.

I'm curious, how close are your coils to the air holes? I've been leaving them a bit away from the holes, attempting to create this 'coil ceiling' between the holes and the drip tip. To me, it seems like the air has room to flow after entering the chamber and since the coils are so close together and close to the drip tip, the air must hit those coils before exiting the chamber.

I haven't tried to have the coils too high as I don't want them to touch the top cap, but I think I have more room. I think I get what you are saying--and I know nothing about aerodynamics--but it just feels like the flow of air itself is restricted because of how the coils/wicks blankets the two rows of holes. It's for me not really the amount of airflow via the holes that is the problem (though it is relatively tight), it's that they hold liquid and are being drawn through something practically blocking their path. I am definitely going to move down to a smaller ID coil because what I've been doing (2.5 mm to 3 mm) ain't working.
i would like to suggest two things that might help with the airflow
-cut your wicks short to the point that its just with-in the base
-arrange the end of your wicks that they're ends are not touching and somewhat freeing up the middle space
i got that feeling to, like "suffocating" the air flow to the point that it gets too hot i cant even do my usual drag
I have been playing around with my AX1 for about a week and I too am finding the air flow to be very restricted. I just turned my top cap as Mr Mann suggested and that sure opened up the air flow a bunch. I am using dual 2mm dual coils and do have them mounted so the top of the coils are even with the top of the side posts. My coils are made from Ni200 twisted with Kanthal and I am using temp control with a DNA200, so my coils are not over heating with just the air flow from the side with a temp setting of 410F degrees. This setup is giving a much better vape than with the same build with the air flow entering from the bottom.
I think the problem with this rda is that the bottom airflow holes are too small to allow enough airflow. If you look into the side of the base, where the air enters, you can see that only maybe 50% of the airflow provided by the slots can enter.
I hate to put the drill bits to a $110 rda and open these four holes up, but I think that is what it will take to bring the best performance out.

"Suffocating" is it precisely.
Yea, I thought that it needs modding, but it feels so wrong for this deck! As it is now, using the airflow the way it was meant, the Magma and even the Manta v2 has more airflow--and those are not airy draws in the least! Those slots mean nothing if they only let in from the most restricted points. It's fascinating to see how much air is missing when you just use the slots on the side. I agree, it's at least 50%.
Oh, and if you overfill it, though there is no issue of leaking, that spit back is vicious! Pop city! My coils seem to sizzle a bleep ton too, and I think that's because they aren't getting cooled properly. Dunno.
Do you think the deck can clear a spaced 10 wrap ~4mm ID? I want to drop in a single 22g Ti coil which comes off of a #10-24 at 3.75mm.The NarDA is outstanding. Just got mine built, dual twisted 26g, 3mm ID, ohming out at .72.

That's awesome man, I'm glad you're happy with it. How does it compare to something like a veritas or a marquis? It seems like it would be similar due to the design of the air flow. The NarDA is outstanding. Just got mine built, dual twisted 26g, 3mm ID, ohming out at .72. Very flavorful and a nice amount of warmth and vapor.
Never tried a Veritas. I did have a Marquis at one point but didn't care for it. So with that disclosed, the flavor from the NarDA is better than the Marquis IMO. It's a lot simpler to build on as well. This is the first atty since the Tugboat V2 that has me seriously wanting to purchase 2 or 3 more and use them almost exclusively. That's awesome man, I'm glad you're happy with it.
