For the last few days I have noticed that I am getting some noticeable pain in both kidneys. I've been vaping for years and never experienced this before.

I've recently upgraded to an istick and better attys than I used to use so higher power and more vapor production than before. Also, I have vaped a lot of one particular new flavor over the last few days. So it could be the new flavor concentrate, just too much PG or VG or maybe I am getting sick for some other reason. All my liquids contain only flavoring, PG, VG, 3 to 5 mg/ml nicotine and pure water. When I did a search I came up with a closed thread called 'unbearable kidney pain' which seemed to describe a similar problem. I dont drink or smoke, don't use drugs including prescription and caffeine.I drink over 2.5l of water per day. My health other than the pain is about perfect for a normal 45 year old guy, I think. I also recently (two weeks ago)was routinely tested for blood bourne illnesses and liver/kidney function - all fine.

I'm going to cut out the new concentrate for a day or two. Failing that, I'll have to quit vaping for a while to see if that helps. Has anyone else experienced this when moving to really rich vaping? PG/VG has never given me kidney pain when actually ingested before and not when I was vaping less and at a lower intensity. Please don't flame me as a vaping hater. I love vaping and building coils and mods but if this pain IS vaping related then my health is more important. I'd be interested if anyone else without a kidney disease has experienced this.

I've held off posting this slight ressurection of an old thread as I was worried that some might think I am anti-vaping. I am not but I AM a bit worried now. Thank you :)

I think it is time for you to go to the ER.

Go to the ER.

It could be pancreatitis. When mine first started I thought it was kidney pain, too. The pain wraps around both sides and your back sometimes.

Eta: it could be any number of things. There are huge numbers of nerves in the abdominal area. Pain in one place isn't always what you may think its from. It travels down nerves.

I only have slight kidney pain, not severe like the other poster. If you go to the ER in the UK (and probably in the US also,) with slight kidney pain then the doc would tell you to stop wasting emergency resources, drink water and see your own doc asap. I haven't vaped all evening and the kidney pain is almost gone. If I have kidney stones then they would show on an ultrasound at any size over about 1mm, which they don't. Urine is normal volume, frequency and colour. Absolutely no indication of viral or bacterial infection (such as impaired or increased appetite, lethargy or temperature changes, nothing) My background is in medical equipment engineering. If anyone has actually experienced this then I'd appreciate a PM please although I am pretty sure that it has happened because I used too much of a new flavor concentrate in my latest batch of liquid. The first thing to look at with an unusual ache or pain is to use your brain and think what you yourself may have done to cause it. Sorry if my post was not clear. Anyway-pretty sure I have found the cause but i will visit the doc if the pain continues.

Thanks for the advice although maybe I've made it sound worse than it is. This is not procrastination or time-wasting. How could I get to see a doctor on New Years eve/day in the UK. I don't drink but most Brits drink and stone themselves into oblivion at New Year and Casualty(ER) with be full of vomiting idiots attended by one ......(off) doctor.

Yes, but in the UK you can ring 111 for advice or use the symptom checker https://www.nhs.uk/symptomcheckers/Pages/Symptoms.aspx. Have you done either?

if I had a nickel for every post I read about some strange symptom and vaping...........

Funny.. If I don't vape then I get much better. I kind of knew it wasn't worth trying to discuss a serious health issue here. Many seem to blindly accept that any level of inhaling PG/vg and chemical flavorings must be OK but there gave been NO clinical trials or even animal testing on powerful, modern vaping equipment. We are the guinea pigs and no amount of blind faith will change that. I think there are some common flavorings, particularly, out there that can have an adverse effect on some people when used normally. If the vaping world is ever going to be taken seriously then surely we have to accept that inhaling ANYTHING in quantity other than air is not a natural act and just MIGHT have health consequences. An open discussion of the health benefits AND possible negative health impacts is totally necessary if we are to further improve the quality of our vaping as time goes by and to avoid potentially harmful ingredients. When Diacetyl (found in some custard flavors used in ecigs) was shown to DESTROY lungs, some ...... were still going online and trying to say it was safe.. Probably because it was their favorite flavor and they just didn't want to accept that there was a danger. With real openness and nonvolatile discussion this could have been avoided. Many vapers are so scared of giving vaping a bad name that they'd rather not even think about potential health issues, let alone discuss them openly.
