Well...huh, I don't know what to say. I'm probably the world's worst at spelling errors and punctuation. However believe it or not, I am educated. Mistakes happen, spell check happens and sometimes replaces words, especially if typing on a cell phone. Don't be too harsh. It happens to us ALL. Best not to sit back and judge or critique anyone else's comments. At least they are being PRO ACTIVE . That's much better than doing nothing at all. We ALL make grammar mistakes from time to time. Take it easy. Don't be so judgemental. Even if they don't know any better, at least they tried....

But, did you know that "Don't ban my vapes" is not an appropriate or worthwhile comment on the FDA's proposed regulations?

That's the issue. The general ignorance displayed... the grammar is just a symptom.

Sounds like the commenter would be unhappy if his vapes were banned. The FDA is required to consider that.

and their consideration would go so far as "This guy is ignorant, the proposed regulations are not a vaping ban"

Your link is the perfect demonstration of that... no way can the FDA realistically consider all 80,000 comments and formulate rules based on them by next summer.

Nevermind the fact that several other agencies comb through the comments first and only pass on to the FDA the ones they deem relevant.

Ha! this is why God invented editors. Unfortunately, editors are a vanishing breed.

I've found a good way to proofread something really important -- a business letter for instance -- is to read it aloud. When you find yourself saying words that aren't really there, there's a cognitive dissonance, which lets you know where the errors are. Far more effective than reading it silently to yourself.

EXACTLY my point... when you read 'vapour' it looks like it ought to be said 'vay-POUR' rather than 'VAY-per' -- and I do believe that's EXACTLY what Webster was addressing with the renovations in spelling.

Andria
thats funny. i read it as a high falutin hoighty toighty avant garde
french pronunciation of the word vapor.

You should visit South Georgia and converse with the locals!

"I'm fixing to fix this lawn mower engine! Son, go into the wash room and look on the shelf over the washer and see if you can find me a washer this size."

ROFL... there are a ton of good jokes with "fix" and "make" as their object. My husband and I got our son with a couple of them back to back, frustrating the hell out of the boy, but it taught him something about precision of speech. He says "Dad, will you fix me some ice cream?" His dad says "Why? I didn't know it was broken." Boy makes whining noise -"Mooooommmm... will you make me some ice cream?" So I say "POOF! you're ice cream!" His dad and I are ROFLing all over the kitchen, as the boy makes agonized noises. :D  But I think we finally did "fix" him a bowl of ice cream. :D

I'm sure it's very possible the FDA thinks ALL vapers are ignorant children in need of nanny-ing.

It seems to me you were you expecting well spoken, well researched, logical, relevant and carefully considered comments that folks at the FDA would find appropriate from a few thousand members of the general population that happen to be vapers.

Why on earth would you think this could happen? I live on this rock too, but I don't live under one.

ClippinWings, you just don't get it. We're vapers, not lobbyists. The good thing is a few thousand of us took the time to submit comments and that's something we need to encourage. Yes, there is room for improvement, but what you're doing in this thread IMO is counterproductive. You're basically saying we messed up, how could we be so dumb. Do you really think that's going to make anything better?

If you want to help and not just shake your finger at people, do something about it. Figure out how to fix what you see is a problem and work toward that goal. That would be really neat. Otherwise you're just blowing smoke.

No...

I'm hoping for better, we can do better.

Instead of 30 seconds to type "don't ban my vaper you fascists"...

Spend 5 minutes, write 5 intelligent sentences...

Then another 5 minutes fixing them.

That's all I expected. That didn't seem like too much to ask.

I'm not a lobbyist, hell I'm a tattooed, foul mouthed, belligerent, old school punk, who'd like to see the entire political system "reformed"... Scorched earth style.

But, sometimes that's not appropriate.
Sometime you do have to play by 'their' rules.

It shouldn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out... And it shouldn't take someone like me to point it out.

I see your frustration and I feel your pain ClippinWings.

This isn't about rocket science. IMO it's about what people can reasonably be expected to do. What you think of as an intelligent sentence is not something everyone understands how to do. It might be easy for you, but we are not all like you. You expect us to live up to your expectations but I think you have not yet understood that we can only do what we can to the best of our ability.

If you're just going to keep saying 'smarten up people!', I'm done here. I don't want to speak for anyone but myself, but I suspect most people are not going to respond well to that attitude. I know I don't.

You obviously feel strongly about this, so get off the pot and do something about it. Make a difference :)

Fair enough.

I'm not trying to tell people to be smarter... I'm saying I know they are.

I can't explain my point of view any better than I have so I guess I'm done here.

Didn't mean to offend, though I can see that I have.

I am not sitting on any pot... I'm doing what I can... It's more than what I could do 2 years ago, If you've read the thread you know I've overcome major phobias to speak before government officials in support of vaping and vapers... And I do my best to motivate others to do the same.

That won't ever change.

Yes indeed.

And one small piece of advice: It may be a good idea not to include the comprehensive accusation "You people worry me" in a thread headline.
Especially not in the headline of a thread whose opening posting derides people who have less than perfect spelling, grammar and / or grasp of some communication from a government agency which is worded in complex official government language.

In addition:
What is the purpose of opening a forum thread that makes such a comprehensive accusation? Especially when this thread was opened on 08-11-2014, 07:40 PM - i.e. after period for submission of comments to the FDA had ended? The submission period is over. No further comments can be added. But, of course, one can gloat, deride, point fingers and attempt to assert one's own superiority.

Attempt - yes. Succeed - no. On the contrary. :)

Your activities in favor of vaping are definitely commendable.
But - let's face it - this thread just was not a good idea. It serves no useful purpose. But it has made a number of people frown.

It's good you overcame whatever your issues were so you can speak to government officials.
However it appears you have never had to read anything submitted. You learn to quickly recognize "fluff".
One very crudely written comment carries more weight then a 1000 "cut , copy, and paste" comments.
Whether the comment you read was posted by an electronic nicotine delivery device user or an ANTZI it still has to be read and filled and that ties up resources and will push the time frame out futher for any regulations.

Oh, one last observation on my part.
Since you want to call people out on their spelling, grammer, and compsotition, I want to call you out on the following point.
When you said you speak to government officials about "vaping and vapers" you used those slang terms and CASAA recommends you not use slang when making presentations.
