A little background.

I`ve been trying various forms of NRT for the past few months and I find that gum, patch and inhalers just do not work for me. I can barely go a day without a cigarette with these methods. I have been looking into PV`s and i want to start NOW. Unfortunately stores around here do not seem to sell kits other than the Smoke NV which looks to be a rip off.

I am looking to spend around 100$ on my first order but I am really overwhelmed finding exactly what I need and although I have found a TON of great information here and on the web I am still afraid that I may not buy the right things.

It seems like my best options for starter kits are the 510 Starter Kit Manual Battery 280mAh , the KR808D-1 Starter Kit 280mAh or the eGo LCD-Tank Kit 650mAh . I will also need Niq juice and this is where the confusion comes in. I`m not exactly sure what i need to order to use the juice with these kits. I a hoping that someone would be able to help me find the accessories and necessities to have this work to help rid myself of my smoking habit. I`ve done some reading but a lot seems to go over my head since I don`t yet have a kit to look at while I learn.

Any help to get started would be great, i just need to know what i should get to go along with the kits.
Thank you and I`m happy to be a part of this community. Hopefully I will be able to help others put down the cigs and pick up PVs once i get started.

Hugrem, i believe i saw a few posts of yours. You ordered your juice from MLV, correct? Also did you just need to order the kit and the juice?

One of the most confusing things for me is loading the juice into the carts. Do i just order the juice and drip it in or do i need to order another piece. Also should I order more carts with the juice?

Yeah don't order from MLV for a little while (backlog is huge and growing by the day). Best to get your juice from another supplier in the meantime.

Filling a carto up is really easy once you get used to it. There are 2 ways of doing it: dripping directly onto the polyfill, keeping the cart at about a 45 degree angle as to not get juice into the middle straw; or taking the little clear plastic cover with a nub in the middle (also called a condom, it comes with every carto except a couple of them here and there) and putting 10-15 drops into that little plastic thing, then putting the open end of the carto into the condom slowly. The idea of both is to get the juice in the polyfill while not get too much in the center. Here is a video showing how to do it.

Just remember: There is no "perfect kit". It all depends on how much you smoke and what your personal preference is. You may find the cigarette-style batteries die too quickly or you don't like the way a certain model handles. There are quite a few sites that offer Try-Me kits that are cheaper than full blown kits. At very worst you will end up not liking it for day-to-day use and you can find another while keeping the try-me kit for whenever you feel like something different.

Hey Zubomb,

I have had good luck with Canvape so far and IMHO the 808 is the best, most reliable starter kit out there BUT most of the fancy stuff uses the 510/ego threading. The tanks are great so if you want to go all in and get the ego kit feel free.

Keep in mind a manual battery takes some getting used too. I have issues with them because I rarely have a hand free so I use an auto 95% of the time. If you do go with the 808 kit he has some 380mah batteries that are also available in automatic.

Juice is hard as it depends on your taste, get sample packs from a few places and see what you like. Each mixmaster has their own style and I am hooked on Flavourcrafters.biz personally.

For instructional vids on how to fill stuff either look it up on youtube or go here Help: Answer they are affiliated with Flavour Crafters and have given me so much help when I started out I can't thank them enough. The link has basic tips on how to fill the basic 808 units they carry.

Hope this helps!

Zubomb,
I'm also a noob and moderately overwhelmed by all the data also. I just ordered a 510 kit plus extra batteries, 10 pack of cartomizers and a sampling of juice, 60ml in total. I live on the big island next to you and supplies will take a while to get here so I figure this will get me started vaping and get me finished with the analogs. Although I have some of the large 510 batteries coming I'm guessing I'll order an ego type PV soon after if I dig this stuff. Really hoping I do 'cause its really time to quit

The ECF begginers tutorial lays it on the line in one place, probably the most concise info I've read to date. The first page (of 3) is here.

Hi zubomb! I see you're in Halifax, I live in Dartmouth! I can help you get what you need if you want to PM me. Or even if you want I wouldn't mind if you came by and tried our PVs. We have 510 minis and an eGo so you could see what you like better. I could also show you the stuff you'll need to get, seeing all the stuff for real would help you understand a lot better I imagine. Me and my bf just started vaping over a month ago and we love it so much, we want to help anybody who needs it make the switch.

You will get the best prices for starter kits at canvape.com I myself got the KR808D supreme kit. I ordered my first juice from juicyclear.com and made the mistake (IMHO) of ordering tobacco flavours. Like most I thought would help getting rid of the cancer sticks. Thankfully I ordered a sample pack from mapleleafvapes.com of other sweet flavours and I finished those long before I even used 2 ml of the tobacco flavours lol . It is overwhelming and everyone has their own opinions on what PV is the best. You will probably end up buying one kit and then branch out to other devices. Juice takes more time as everyones tastes buds are different. Hope you stick the path though its a great community here and as you can see lots of people to help you through. Good Luck!

Thanks everybody for the information. I watched the videos and looked into the links and found a TON of useful information which helped me make a decision. ChellyNelly, I really appreciate your offer to look at your PVs but i am really only in Halifax every second weekend when I am off work and I am far to eager to quit smoking and start using these, that is a very generous thing to offer though so thank you for that. I think that i might be in town on the 11th though so perhaps I could make it to vapemeet if all goes well.

I decided on the eGo Riva 1100mAh Black w/gold band for 44.95 at canvape. As for juice I found a vendor that I would like to try and purchased Du Ma, Export A, Vanilla, Apple, RY4, and Dr. Pepper, all 30ml. I plan to go down that vendor list soon and find all the sites with samples and try to find what I like the best. Im pretty excited right now.

The LCD Ego has a short circuit protection of 1.5 Ohms, so some LR (low resistance) atomizers/cartomizers won't work. Granted you should not be using a 1.5 Ohm atty on a 510 or 808 either... but my point is you're better off with a regular Ego which can handle LR atties.

EDIT: Ah I see you settled on the Riva. It has a good following. I've never tried it tho.

Yeah the tanks have their pros and cons. Don't cry if they give you grief. The Ego-T battery can be used for any 510 threaded atomizer/cartomizer.

Yah - read almost everything in here on the product. Enough people seem to like it that I thought I would start there. Still have some 510attys, and plan to try a few cartomizers. Chose it for the versatility. I may Mod Up from there, but if my girl has any chance to quit analogs for PVs it would depend on the consistency, as well as cosmetics. A mod is not for her - at this stage anyway. the perfect plan would be for her to 'inherit' my eGo allowing me Mod Up if I am less than completely happy with the eGO. Although I think she is probably more of a Bloog ;)
