Hey guys.

It's been about 8 months since I quit smoking (wow...time flies!). For all this time, I've been sticking with my trusty iStick 30s and Nautilus Minis. I started out on 18mg nic, and have slowly brought it down to 6mg, where I currently stand.

When I first started vaping, I was using the smallest airflow hole on the Nautilus. As time progressed, I've gotten to like more and more airflow. Now, I find even the largest hole to be somewhat restrictive. Time for a new tank, I figure. Something with more...oomph.

I'm very curious about the sub-ohm experience. The Triton 2 has caught my eye, as it has coils for both subbing, and mtl. I'm hesitant to get a dedicated sub-ohm tank, as there's no guarantee I'll even like it.

My question is: Is this the normal progression that most people take, going from high resistance to sub-ohm?

Well i run a Triton and a Tobeco Mini Sub Tank I prefer the Triton but was just as Happy with the Mini Sub Tank. I haven't had issues with either and the mini Sub Tank was decent priced. Picked it up local for $22 I think. My Gf uses the Tobeco tank also and she does MTL all the time. My only complaint with the Triton and not sure if the 2 has it but I forget to click the top back after I fill lol and that's my fault.

I was a 3 pack a day smoker and went from a Kanger mega to a Sub Ohm tank in about 3 weeks as i needed more vapor

Most do, from what I've seen here.

Personally, I just don't like to sub ohm.

The Triton 2 might be a good starter tank, just to check out if you like it, it comes with the sub ohm coil (can't remember what resistance now, lol) and a 1.8, so you are not out much if you find you don't like sub ohm or it's something you need to ease into.

I have three triton 2 tanks I've been running a few weeks now. The vapor production is fantastic and so far I've had no leak issues.
The flavor seemed kind of muted at first, but after a week or so, it's like one day they just went "hello."

They've been very reliable for me after learning a thing or two about them.

I bought two for my first try. The first one I fire up (or tried to) the 1.8 coil was no good and wouldn't work on any of my mods. The second one, I burned the coil by not priming it enough. IME, they really need the juice dabbled on the coil, dry hit it several times, then let it sit for at least 15 minutes, then dry hit is some more before your first vape.

This is just my experience. Others may have a different experience or opinion.

Would recommend the Subtank mini.

You can go sub ohm with .5 ohm coils.

You can choose to use the 1.5 ohm coils.

It has airflow ring so you can manipulate the airflow.

It also comes with an RBA where you can build the coils where you want them for flavor, by using 28-30 gauge wire you could have a coil 2.5 ohm resistance and more airflow than the .5 ohm coils.

I second the Subtank Mini, have a few of them, and it was where I went after the Nautilus. When I got mine I stayed a mouth to lung vaper. I swapped out the large bore (car exhaust) drip tip for a cheap 510 sized one which is more narrow. Then I used the middle airflow. You'll still get more volumn of vapor (about twice the Nautilus in my opinion).

I use the Subtank rba (rebuildable) to make my own coils (it's really cheap and easy). You can also buy the factory coils just about everywhere for it.

IF you decide to go with the STM and use pre-built Coils in it,,,,
I highly suggest ditching & avoiding the OCC Coils that come with it (and buying as replacements) and only use/buy the Kanger SSOCC Coils. The OCCs are notorious for Seepage into the AFC Base and for Spit-back up the Tube. Switched the Wife's 5 ST Tanks (2 STMs & 3 STnanos) over to the SSOCCs and ZERO Issues with either of those. Also, the residual Taste is gone and its Vapor production is much better in both Mass & Flavor.
So far, the longevity is a heckuva lot better than the old OCCs too.
The STM w/SSOCC Coils offer many Resistance Choices and will do both Sub and non-Sub Ohm. So, whatever flips ya Switch it has you covered. My Wife doesn't Sub-Ohm for whatever reason and uses both the 1.5 and the 1.2 R Coils depending on what Liquid & Mod.

+1 to the above regarding the included RBA Base. Simple and easy to build on and wick (just watch a couple Tutorial Vids or research How-To Posts here on ECF) and performs and Vapes danged Awesome IMO. The STM (with SSOCCs or RBA) is a quality Tank that will meet your Needs & Wants now and well into the future regardless of how your Vaping Style & Journey progresses. Unless, you decide to go solely RDA/Dripper then,,,, well the STM ain't a Dripper ;)

All the best to ya whatever you decide. Vape On & Enjoy :thumb:

Quite normal. Not everyone likes subohm, but the same happened to me. You might look into something like the Kanger Subtank. It has coils for both subohm and +ohm, the air can be adjusted for MTL or direct lung hits, and it has an RBA deck so you could build your own coils where you want them.

The flavor seemed kind of muted at first, but after a week or so, it's like one day they just went "hello."

I'm so glad you said this! I bought a Triton 2 a couple weeks ago, and although I like it in every other aspect, the flavor is so muted I can barely taste anything. Everything else I've read says the flavor is great, I couldn't figure out why my experience was so different. But now I realize I haven't been using the same coil for more than a few days. I'll keep going with it and see if it improves.

To the OP - aside from the muted flavor issue (which I hope will improve as the coil gets broken in more), this is a great tank. The top fill is so convenient and easy, and there's been no leaking at all. The coils come in 1.8 ohm for MTL, plus there are sub-ohm options and/or temp control options, so it should really grow with you. Also you can switch out the drip tip for a narrow bore one, which is better for MTL vaping.

I am going through the exact thing as yourself. I am currently using the Nautilus on the biggest airflow and though I do like it a lot, I want to try something a bit more. I want to stick with MTL and thinking of the Triton myself. More convinced now to try it and have the option of growing with it.

I would say that it's a natural order of progression in Vaping and working through staying away from the Stinky's. And Congrats for doing that quite an accomplishment. Save yourself some money and go with a RTA like the Telemahos v2 Plus Clone from Fastech($21). You get the Air Flow of your liking along with adjustable AFC, Juice Flow Control for great taste and not spend a bunch of money in the long run. Building your own Coils is more flexible as to when you wish for a Sub Ohm build take a couple of moments and put one in and when you want a more mild Vape put in a higher Ohm build. And until you learn the Coil building skill; which won't take long you can buy pre-made Coils fairly cheap for a Pack of them.

Many start with high levels of nicotine and progress to lower levels.
Many start with low levels of air flow and progress to higher levels.

The two tend to counter act each other.

Personally I progressed from Nautilus tanks and then Kanger Subtank-Mini's to RTA's. Oddly, I've found that I vape more with lower nicotine juice than I do with higher nicotine content resulting in ether "toodle puffing" chain-vaping all day with high nicotine and low air flow gear or taking a few "puffs" every so often with the same juice with high airflow gear.

    YMMV.

    I use RTAs exclusively.

I too would recommend an RTA but I would rather the OP move to RTAs on their schedule not hours.

I recommended Subtank mini so they could use OCC heads, then when they were ready they could try rebuilding on the RBA.

I bit the bullet last night, and ordered a Triton 2, some .5 clapton coils and some 1.8 coils, along with a CoolFire IV Plus. If sub-ohming seems to be up my alley, I'll probably get a second mod and tank of some sort - maybe a Subtank Mini kit (having 2 setups was probably the most important decision in quitting smoking).

I find I chain-vape when at home, in front of the computer. I'm curious how my vaping frequency will change, if at all, with a new setup. I ordered some 3 mg juice, just in case the 6 is too much.

I'm sure I'll move to RTAs eventually, but I'm not quite there yet.

Having more than one functional setup is ideal - if one breaks down you have a backup rather than going back to the stinkies!

I tend to "chain vape" in front of the TV much like I used to chain smoke before vaping. I regularly keep one setup for high MG and one for low MG. I can chain vape the latter without headaches and if I get a urge for something more a few puffs/pulls/draws on the high MG setup usually takes care of it.

This weekend I rebuilt some Aspire K1's for low draw/low output vaping and shocked myself that I used those things for a month or more when I started vaping. Perfect for "stealth vaping" but very lacking out output considering I have 3 TFV4's in service right now. ;)

PS: Don't forget that just because many "subohm setups" can push some serious clouds, they don't have to. Its all about how much power and air flow you feed them.

Hope you enjoy the Triton, it does put out.

I'm trying to move to RTA also, but my coil-building is so hit and miss, I can't rely on it yet.
