I have it my tester because I can burn the old favor off but have not used those two. The frazzled ends only happen on mine if I mess with it like brushing the coil after a dry burn
Great to hear.

Actually the "frazzled ends" were from me fiddling with it. I had the idea that if I fluffed out the ends a bit it would soak up any access juice and keep it wetter. Not sure if it made a difference just experimenting. The blackness under the coils look burnt but on surface only the wick itself is still pretty intact.
My opinion is to go splurge and spend $8.00!! If you don't like it I'm sure you would have no problem offing it to someone here. You should also think about the other benefits. The flavor and wicking characterisitcs of the xc is outstanding! It's not just a matter of how long the wick will last because if thats the criteria the ceramic wick will hands down last longer than any other wicking material out there!
Overall vape experience has many facets I truly believe that this wicking material will give you the best chance of getting to vape heaven.
Again...my 2 cents. :)
Understand the desire to fiddle with it for the sake of experimenting.

This statement from Mac ( above) should get your curiosity going enough to at least give it a shot, the most you have to lose is $8.00. :)

Agree, $8 is not a huge investment ....and because I am curious is why I ask the questions. Upon receipt of my Reo set, I will probably get a strand of this. Just like being informed.

I can be a cheap S.O.B. and I won't use anything else. It's worth every penny.

LOL.......I too consider myself a cheap SOB. Good to hear.

Are you waiting to get your first REO??? If so CONGRATULATIONS !!!!!! :toast:
You are in for a treat! THE best vaping machine out there.
Great to ask questions as well. The fun part is getting peoples input then experimenting yourself to find your own particular "sweet spot" and preffered coil size, wire gauge, wicking material etc. Everyone has there own opinions and preferences, 'fiddling" is the fun part.
So far you are definately on the right track getting yourself a REO and RM2

First of all, a pre-welcome to you Victory!

You'll be blown away by your Reo!As far as colors, if you get a darker color or actually any color that you like, you can also pick out a couple of doors to or contrast it!
And, because this is the ready-wick thread i'm going to share my input as I've been experimenting with it for about a week now.

To make it short and sweet, today I wrapped very simple 4coils around the 3mm wick with a tiny mandrel inserted into the center of the wick. Each one came out at between 1.1-1.4 on the ohms meter. I vape on only the Reo woods which has a stronger kick than the metal ones.
The flavor is very strong! And i like that! When I had them constructed and on the mods i dropped a little juice directly on the wick, as suggested by another person, fired the mod for a couple seconds and did those two things a couple more times...while I was vaping away on the all ready to go other ones....In short, this is the very best wicking medium I've ever used..and I've used them all:laugh:

Exactly what I do Kay ...... 4 wraps around 3mm with a large paper clip inside. Comes out to 1.15 -- 1.25 every time. Its literally the perfect vape .... really no need to look farther for me.

I chuckle a little seeing people balk about the price .... Its 33 cents per half inch wick .... Really thats too much ??

My chalice uses a 3/8 inch wick and thats only 24 cents.

I'd pay 5 bucks an inch for this stuff if I had too. I just can't go back to ekowool now.

So, after reading the post about the characteristics of the xc I tried the prebuild coil/insert wick method last night without too much success. I got frustrated trying to thread the 2mm thru a 1/16" coil. Tried angle cut, screw in method etc. finally got it but kind of a hassle for me. I then tried a slightly larger diameter coil but the wick slid in too loose. I am just going back to my tried & true method like you mentioned, slide in pin, direct wrap, done! :)

Makes me smile as I read all these positive reviews from all you "experienced" vapers! :)
I have been using the Nextel xc-132 version ceramic wick for awhile now. It seemed like everyone including myself was on the cotton train. When I switched over to xc I felt like a red headed stepchild. Now that this Readyxwick thread came out (thank you Tim, big hitter) with the improved kiln treatment xc we have all been enlightened!! :)
Doesn't it feel great to get excited over improvements on our vaping experience again? Using a REO and and RBA left little room for improvement, fiddling, etc. looking for "the next best thing". The xc wick is it! :)

The 1/16" dia is excellent for the bed of a typical REO dripper. And as I said, it may take a little practice and a couple of tries. An extended leg of XC serves as an excellent reservoir in a dripper. I first tested it and extensively in the Forge clone, presently in the iGo-W, and while not having the saturation of cotton. The output is superb and reserve capacity impressive. And Rudy I agree the cost in inches in minimal given its durability relative to other media and in consideration of its performance. However, you don't begin to see that extraordinary output on a conventional hand wind. Once you've done a few dozen, it's like second nature.

Good luck in any case rudy.

Thanks! Maybe a little practice is all it takes.

You know you take your time. Back off for a little while or a few days. When I first encountered it having read extensively about it on ECF and elsewhere I thought it was a waste. Like most any other wicking media, impossible to thread it. After a couple of days working with it off-and-on I did the face palm. Mostly because of the results but to a great extent the facility with which it threads relative to anything else. And the methods that we use on all others is an electrical compromise that refrains the potential of this wick.

There are other diameters you can try. Like a 16 Ga. blunt needle which is slightly wider than 1/16" and will provide a bit more space to induce the compression of the braid in threading. Tensioning a coil onto a blunt needle with thicker wire is impractical but you can wind or form it onto the needle as vapdivrr very effectively demonstrated on his videos early last year. I was surprised to see the waning interest in Nextel by the time I started testing the product in Jul of last year. Even more when I discovered it's performance. But it's evident it's retained a faithful following that has started to swell in recent months. I'm pleased to see it. It's a great vape.

Good luck rudy.

I've found that the following makes it easier to thread:

cutting on an angle,
hitting the end with a torch until it glows white stiffens it a bit
a drop of vg on the end to help hold the fibers togther

Agreed, and tucking in any minute splays of the braid that then begin (if needed) is typically enough to send it down the pike with a little subtle pressure and rotation (in the direction of the wind). No comparison whatsoever to trying to thread any wick of similar dimension. Night and day.

Folks just have to try it. Learning the fine motion control, training your hands, like with anything takes a bit of repetition. Then it's natural.

Then…comes the face palm...I could've had a V8.

They'll see. It's comin'. I'm with them really, I don't mess with it if it ain't broken. But you gotta look out of the window, to see outta the window. We all just need a little encouragement.

Good luck.

Anyone know where I can get one (16ga needle) say at a box store or something on the cheap? Most DIY online sites are asking $3-$4 and did find one for $0.65 at wizard labs but shipping was 4times the cost of the damn needle.

I found some at a local Atwoods store. Maybe a Tractor Supply would have them, but I haven't checked. Look for someplace that would have supplies for vaccinating cattle or horses. I also got some 16 gauge, and some 14 gauge solid wire at Lowe's. I broke one of the mandrels on my Artistic Coil Gizmo, and needed to get some wire to make a new one.
